Warkworth has a spectacular castle overlooking the ancient streets, which are packed with independent and artisan shops and eateries and is surrounded by the River Coquet. There are plenty of walks for you and your canine companions to enjoy, including the Northumberland Coastal Walk, which allows you to soak up the beautiful coastline, enjoy the wide, sandy beaches, whilst feeling the sand between your toes and the wind in your hair.
The area is steeped in history, so as well as Warkworth Castle there are plenty of other interesting landmarks in this part of Northumberland to discover, including St Lawrence’s chapel and Warkworth Hermitage which is only accessed via boat. A short walk from the village is Warkworth Golf Club and a gorgeous sandy beach which overlooks RSPB reserve Coquet Island, where you can see some of the area’s seabirds. Should you tire of the coast, you can always head inland to the Northumberland National Park and explore the rolling hills, waterfalls and hidden valleys. After a tiring day, head home to your Warkworth cottage with dog in tow and enjoy an evening curled up in front of the fire.
