Self-catering accommodation in Allendale
Situated along the northern tip of the North Pennines, a choice of warm and welcoming Allendale holiday cottages make this charming village an ideal holiday destination for anyone exploring the Northumberland countryside. Providing Northumberland holidays and relaxing self-catering accommodation for families, couples and groups of friends, Allendale is a fantastic base for walkers and cyclists, with the remains of Hadrian’s Wall to the north (about 13 miles). The village also has some great places to eat, drink and relax. Cosy and inviting accommodation in Allendale make this a lovely village to visit throughout the year, with its traditional May Fair, the Allen Valleys Folk Festival and the famous Tal Bar’l fire festival at New Year when blazing tar barrels are carried by 45 volunteers through the streets.
A secluded, idyllic but vibrant and welcoming village, Allendale holiday cottages are ideally situated for delving into the glorious Northumberland National Park just 12 miles to the north. Walkers of all abilities will find Allendale a delight – you can take a gentle stroll around the village or explore the moorland and waterfalls of River Allen East, while more experienced walkers can attempt the 25-mile Allendale Challenge. Other landmarks include the remains of the ancient Roman fort of Housesteads, and the Vindolanda Fort and Roman Army Museum (both 13.5 miles). Allendale is also the home of the Museum of Classic Sci-Fi. The thriving market town of Hexham – home of the historic Hexham Abbey – is within easy reach (10.5 miles), or you could head south to the Killhope Lead Mining Museum (12 miles) during your stay in an Allendale cottage.
