Property code: OC-91079

A 15th-century former 'bastle' house within the grounds of a working farm 5.5 miles from Hexham, a market town on the south bank of the River Tyne. Featuring an open-plan living area which includes a king-size bed, this dog-friendly, studio-style property is a romantic bolthole for a couple seeking privacy and tranquillity on the edge of the North Pennines AONB.

Accessed via a 0.5 mile driveway that is surrounded by open countryside, this characterful property retains many of its original features, which blend seamlessly with contemporary and rustic soft furnishing to create a warm, rustic ambience. After walking up stone steps to the front door, enter a large studio-style space containing the lounge, kitchen and a king-sized bed, with a shower room at the far end. This area is perfect for anyone who enjoys long lie ins during their holidays, where it’s only a few paw prints from the duvet to the comfort of the sofa where lazy brunches and romantic dinners on laps are punctuated by long walks in the countryside or coast. Come evening, relax and unwind as the wood burner licks and crackles to the sound of long conversations, favourite programmes or clinking glasses. The relaxing confines of a small garden await morning coffees or fortifying nightcaps under the star-riddled skies.

The property sits just within the boundary of the North Pennines AONB, making it a haven for an active couple keen to explore its open heather moorland, woodland and rivers with dogs in tow. The historic town of Hexham (5.5 miles) is a great place to sample local produce and the area’s rich history, to play golf or enjoy a day at the races. The streets and museums of Corbridge (8 miles) offer a fascinating and Roman life, with Hadrian’s Wall (10.5 miles) a must for avid history fans.

The Bothey is a beautifully quirky (floor on a slight slope, bed a little high, kitchen units higher than average compensating for sloping floor!) and attractive accommodation.. with the gorgeous wooden beams, exposed brickwork, log burning stove and a comfy bed. It's opposite the owners home at the top of a gorgeous drive on their estate. I'm beinRead moreg honest in that the shower could have done with a proper clean and a regrout but it was a real shame because otherwise we did enjoy our stay here. Hide

The building is 500 years old- so are the 7 or 8 steps up to it, would be dangerous if wet. We were unprepared for the very low beams, no signage as you walk in. Everything below beam level was beautifully clean, not so above, cobwebs everywhere. The entire place slopes towards the bathroom which makes using the kitchen a challenge. The worktop is Read moreok by the sink but way too high at the other end. No fire or electrical safety labels on anything. The bed was fabulous, as was the bathroom. Hide

This is a c16th bothey surrounded by countryside, a few miles south of Hexham. It's a competent conversion to a rentable guest unit and we enjoyed our 4 day stay there. It's certainly compact, but more than adequate for a short stay. Charlie and his mother are very pleasant hosts.

Beautiful building and setting. Nicely decorated and cosy with a fireplace. It is very rural so good for people who love walking and the countryside. A car is essential as it's quite isolated.
