Close to walks, cycle trails and the market town of Hexham (9 miles), this gorgeous, converted barn is perfect for explorers. Sleeping eight guests across four bedrooms, whisk family and friends on a getaway to remember and make yourselves at home in this characterful home. Sleek, contemporary interiors beautifully complement rustic features, creating lovely spaces in which to spend time both socialising and resting. A great welcome home after days in the great outdoors, enjoy time in the hot tub before snuggling up in front of the warming wood burner.

Make your way into the hall, a great place to leave muddy boots post-walk, and head to the open-plan living space. Separating the space is a retained stable wall which adds character and complements the beam-lined ceiling. Flooded with natural light, this space is great for all occasions, from lazy mornings to lively nights. Cook up a storm in the sleek kitchen area before piling the dining table high with serving dishes and sitting down to tuck in.  When night falls, head into the lounge and gaze through the telescope to make the most of your Dark Skies Reserve location, then fire up the wood burner and switch on the TV to unwind before bed. When it’s time to hit the pillow, make your way to one of four, first-floor bedrooms, all of which have en-suites so you can freshen up with ease in the mornings. There is off-road parking and an electric car charging point.

Just 9 miles from the bustling town of Hexham, head out for the day and wander the quaint streets which are dotted with independent shops, galleries and delicious eateries. Cross the River South Tyne and travel 15.5 miles to Cawfields Quarry where you can hunt out a section of Hadrian’s Wall which still remains. Follow the trail and walk 4 miles west to the Roman Army Museum for a family day out.
