Surrounded by the magical countryside of the tranquil Allen Valleys, this enchanting former farm cottage is brimming with character, making a lovely holiday home for couples and smaller families exploring a spellbinding part of Northumberland. Offering spacious, light and fresh accommodation for four guests, the sympathetically updated stone-built hideaway features two welcoming wood burners, original stonework, flagstone flooring and stunning timber framing. Perfect for walkers, history buffs and nature spotters, this tastefully decorated property offers breathtaking vistas, providing a serene and picturesque holiday home in glorious surroundings.

A charming entrance porchway leads into the airy open-plan kitchen/diner, an inviting light-filled space with a handy sofa, a cheerful farmhouse-style dining table and a wood burner set in a handsome inglenook. At the far side, the stylishly arranged and fully equipped kitchen is perfect for preparing your favourite dishes. A door leads through to a snug lounge with sumptuous seating, a Smart TV and another welcoming wood burner. Upstairs, the two spacious super-king-size bedrooms have high vaulted ceilings with impressive original wooden beams. The upper floor also offers a light and relaxing bathroom. Outside, the beautiful south-west facing cottage garden has a lovely lawn, with mature apple trees and a sweet patio area, offering a secluded spot for you to sit back and take in the magical surroundings. Private parking is available for two cars, and a small outbuilding has secure bike storage.

The nearby town of Allendale (3.5 miles) is a great base for exploring the moorlands, waterfalls and ancient monuments of the northernmost reaches of the North Pennines. Heading east, the historic town of Hexham (9.5 miles) is home to a medieval abbey. The route of Hadrian's Wall passes close by, with other local landmarks including Vindolanda, the Roman Army Museum and the Temple of Mithras all within 17 miles.

Wow, what can I say about this place, is was exceptional, the cottage was immaculately clean and presented, every part of our stay had been considered, the location was amazing with superb views, the extras from home baked bread, tea loaf, tea and coffee, even down to a parking disk for the local town I can honestly say this place is amazing and anRead moreyone who books it wont be disappointed is it truly a home from home, also Mary was an exceptional host nothing was a problem. Absolutely beautiful cottage with the most amazing customer care from Mary, the owner. We were coming for Christmas and the cotttage was beautifully decorated throughout, all the way down to christmas crackers left on the pillows. The owners had left a gorgeous welcome hamper of home baking, milk and other goodies. The main bedroom in particular loRead moreoked liked one in a top, luxury hotel. Everything was immaculate, extremely well-equipped kitchen and the views from the cottage are stunning, with lovely walks all around from the door. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sycamore Cottage. The cottage is cosy, with a fantastic view, and finished to the highest standard. The hosts went the extra mile leaving a beautiful hamper and freshly baked bread and cakes. A super cottage: beautiful views across the countryside, tastefully decorated, and thoughtfully equipped with everything you could possibly need. The app guidebook to the cottage and local recommendations was clever and I used it a lot, and found any information I was looking for.

Sycamore Cottage is a real gem of a place. Mary & Phil have thought of everything to make a visitors stay as welcoming and comfortable as possible from the welcome hamper of Northumbrian produce to the home made bread, cake and biscuits which were most appreciated. We had a fantastic stay with our two young children over the bank holiday weekend. The house was gorgeous and had everything we needed for the weekend. A lovely, tastefully furnished, well equipped cottage in a rural location. It was blessed with beautiful views of the Allen Valley. Owner Mary gave us a warm welcome just after our arrival along with a generous, quality welcome pack. If you like a remote (actually very easy to get to) quiet spot in the countryside then this is the place to stay ! The house is immaculate. A beautiful hamper on arrival with fresh baked bread, cake and cookies! To sum up , this place is by far the best accommodation my partner and I have rented in 13 years of travelling together
