Steeped in history, this quintessential English cottage is nestled in the charming seaside town of Bamburgh on the Northumberland coast. This relaxing bolthole is the perfect escape for small families or groups of friends. Examine the impressive architecture of Bamburgh Castle (500 metres) before dipping into an immersive exhibition to learn of the fortress’s colourful history. Back at base, grab a brew and settle around the wood burner for a blether.

This bright abode is the epitome of easy coastal living. Picture sun-bleached wooden textures, nautical stripes, and fresh marine hues. Drop beach bags at the door then step into the inviting open-plan space. Thumb through a guidebook propped against the plump throw pillows on the sofa or curl up on the armchairs and unwind with a film. Pad into the spacious kitchen area and cook up a hearty evening spread for the group. Crack open some fizz then settle in for supper perched on the bench-style seat. Completing the ground floor is a handy utility space, perfect for freshening up sandy gear. Retire upstairs to find two airy bedrooms, consisting of a king-size and an adaptable king-size zip-and-link which can be arranged as a twin on request. Outdoors, potter in the leafy patio garden, or fire up the BBQ for a grilled al fresco feast.

In summer months, feel the sand between your toes with an amble along the golden sands of Bamburgh Beach (within 100 metres), then refuel with unbeatably fresh seafood and fine wines on the scenic harbourfront of Seahouses (3 miles). Don’t miss a visit to the bustling weekly market in the cobbled town of Alnwick (17.5 miles) – the perfect spot to secure some locally crafted souvenirs and artisan deli goodies.

Planning a group getaway? The Bolthole (sleeps 4), Edynwell (sleeps 6) and Castleside (sleeps 4) are located alongside each other and can be booked together – ideal for extended families or friends holidaying side by side, with space for up to 14 guests in total.

The Bolthole is a charming cottage in a great location, close to Bamburgh Castle, beach and amenities. All are just a few minutes walk from The Bolthole. The scenery is stunning particularly the beach with its dunes. Lovely cricket green and croquet lawn. Would definitely stay at The Bolthole again.

We stayed with a couple of friends. Great apartment and plenty of room for 4 adults. Beautifully furnished and good attention to detail. Ideal spot for exploring Bamburgh and the local area. Parking two cars was a bit of a challenge, particularly getting out, especially as one of the cars in the next door apartment didn't park at all well and iRead moret was a big car, but we managed. Would thoroughly recommend it as a place to stay and would love to return at some point. Hide

We stayed for a long weekend just last week and last year for a long weekend. The house is really lovely but... The small window in the first bedroom is very drafty and when windy very noisey. It's not closing properly. It was the same last time we were there. The heating system isn't great either. Very very noisy. Lovely hot water but the heatinRead moreg side of things isn't good. We we're disappointed that there wasn't anything festive , no christmas tree in the house Hide

Great cottage, great location, just off the main road so close to all the amenities and quiet enough to believe you are in the countryside. The cottage is very comfortable and fully equipped, parking for 2 cars would be challenging!

Would definitely return. It's nice to park up in the grounds and not worry about trying to park in the street.
