Escape to the country with a stay at this beautiful stone house with four bedrooms and oodles of space and special touches. Curl up by the cosy wood burner or enjoy the great outdoor space, with a large patio and lawned garden. Or, if the weather isn’t playing ball, chill out in the comfortable conservatory. Located in Catton village, 7 miles from Hexham, it’s within the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and makes a fabulous base for extended family to explore from.
The downstairs is largely open-plan and with its neutral, tasteful decor and light streaming in, it’s a really airy and relaxing space. Sink into comfortable seating by the wood burner in its stone fireplace to chill before or after dinner at the smart modern table, easily seating eight. The kitchen is a sleek affair with another sofa and island with stools to keep the chef company as they work their way around the contemporary fitted kitchen. There’s practical hard flooring throughout the downstairs with occasional rugs. Sleeping arrangements should be easy as three super-king-size and one king-size bedroom can all become twins (by request) thanks to zip-and-link beds. Each spacious and beautifully decorated bedroom effectively has its own bathroom, although only two are actually en-suite. There’s a useful utility and hallway for leaving mucky outdoor gear. The enclosed garden has a large lawn plus a furnished patio area for creating those holiday memories over al fresco feasts.
The charming town of Allendale is 1.5 miles away with a choice of shops, pubs and eateries as well as interesting walking routes. Hadrian’s Wall Country offers walking, cycling and Roman history. Spend time at the Roman Vindolanda Fort & Museum (12 miles) to help the past come to life. Or get to know pretty Hexham complete with its beautiful abbey.
