Step back in time and embrace traditionalism when staying in this County Durham holiday home. A peaceful haven for walkers, cyclists or those wishing to just sit and enjoy the views, this country cottage is a traditional stone property in the rural North Pennines, 2 miles from the nearest village with pubs and shops. Owing to its remote location, mobile signal is variable when staying here, offering you the chance to really switch off from the outside world. A unique destination for extremely restful stays, this former miner's cottage sleeps four guests and two dogs, ideal for two couples on a hiking retreat with canine company.

Ornate décor and traditional design elements make this cosy house a home - step inside and put your feet up. The kitchen/diner is well-equipped with everything you need to prepare a hearty breakfast or a delicious dinner, sustenance to keep you going throughout all your daily adventures. After dinner, retire to the lounge and get cosy with the fire on and the Smart TV displaying your favourite show. Move through the property to reach two bedrooms on the first floor, each one with comforting soft furnishings and a comfy mattress. Finally, there are two spaces to sit outdoors, the bistro set out front and the picnic bench area to the side of the property.

Mighty fells sit waiting to be explored in this vibrant area of the North Pennines AONB, so set off from your front door to discover Bolts Law (5 miles), Horseshoe Hill (5 miles) and all of the wild moorlands that exist between them. Just past the village of Baybridge (2 miles), the Derwent Reservoir (4 miles) offers waymarked pathways for waterfront walks, a sailing club for on-the-water adventures and plenty of fish just waiting to be caught.

Excellent stay, total peace and quite, The welcome box was a god send as we did not realise the local village of Blanchland would not have any bread etc. The Hosts made it so welcoming even for the Dog, Would highly recommend and we will return again, will try the summer next time.

The cottage is very homely and comfortable and is situated in a lovely vally. The countryside around the cottage is fabulous with many lovely walks. Comfy cottage, enjoyed the week, Only thing was the garden not enclosed, in fact it was a big worry for letting our dog out on his own, the Enclosed Garden in the description, was one of the main reasons for booking it, so that was the biggest disappointment, No patio either. the grounds themselves was quite dangerous with all the holes around. Cottage clean and well presented, one of four in a row. Quiet and peaceful location, especially week we stayed as others were unoccupied (early season). Location is quite remote and cottages are accessed via a farm track, could be difficult to get to in wintry weather. Welcome pack should cover breakfast on first day if you arrive without shopping Read more(recommend that you shop before arrival as supermarkets are a loooongg way away). One quibble, fridge was small and lacked proper freezer compartment. Hide

superb little cottage for a peaceful time, with many places to visit around if you wish. we came to get away with our dog, who has anxiety issues, so wanted walks from the door. we managed with riverside walks, a quick nip across a road to a wood and along the drive - there is plenty further afield if you can co it. Lovely holiday with dog walk through the garden gate! Exactly what the photos showed. The dog loved the space and rabbits.
