Brian R on 08/04/2017

You need to add an 'excellent' category. 'very good' doesn't cover it. Homely, comfortable, welcoming .. could go on. Particularly well impressed. Everything that was needed was there, we were very pleased with the cleanliness and comfort of beds and bedding. We were in Northumberland to attend a family wedding at Newton Hall. Although a Tyneside person myself, my wife and her parents were so impressed with the cottage and location. Full marks to everyone involved in maintaining it to such a comfortable standard. It was a relaxing home-from-home and the wedding occasion was totally stress-free. For my in-laws (in their 80's) to get on a boat to the Farne Islands says it all. Thank you.

3 Bamburgh Gate is all it says in the blurb and more. We have often stayed in rental properties and this is right up at the top of our list of places we'd happily visit again. It's very comfortable indeed - lovely to sink into that sofa! The shower room is great - I wish we could have a nice a one at home. That plus a well-equipped kitchen, log fire and lovely private area to sit out in made for an extremely relaxing weekend. An excellent, extremely comfortable and well-appointed place to stay. Highly recommended.

The cottage is spacious, clean and well equipped. Lovely welcome pack of goodies and wine. Plenty of stocks of everything you could need. Wi Fi was excellent we were a party of five and all used the internet. Nobody complained about access. Very close to the beach and the main bedroom has amazing sea views. Very modern, comfortable and welcoming. We enjoyed eating at the Ship Pub, Elan and Neptune Fish & Chip restaurant. The Indian and Chinese are good too. Great lunch sandwich deals in the cake shop on the main street. We got a packed lunch from there and walked on the beach to Bamburgh Castle and had lunch on a bench in the football field. Had a nice drink in the hotel pub there. The boat trip on Serenity Two is a must. We went on all cruises, sail around, sunset cruise and visit to the farne islands. Fantastic. Weather wasn't the best for most of the holiday but we had a great time. Will visit again. Thank you.

Thank you for such a lovely holiday at Brucap Cottage. The whole family had a brilliant time. The location of the cottage was great - within walking distance of both the beach and the village itself, but quiet. It was also a lovely walk to Seahouses along the beach. The accommodation is just what a family of four needs. It was warm and cosy, and well equipped (a washing machine is a must on a family holiday by the sea!), together with lots of extras such as DVDs and board games Northumberland itself is a brilliant destination for a family holiday - wide open beaches, stunning scenery and lots of fun things to do. We had a lovely spring bank week here for our family of 5 adults. The house is immaculate and modern and well furnished and equipped. TVs are in every room and there is loads to do in the local area. Short walk to the local pub (cut through the caravan park) and to the beach. It's on a safe cul de sac so ideal if you have kids too. Only minor thing is no wifi but as it isn't mentioned anywhere that is our fault for assuming and it didn't matter - just be aware when you're bringing teens! Fab place to stay - thank you!

The cottage is beautifully situated and very well equipped for a large group with varying needs. The cottage was warm and the welcome-pack generous. Overall the cottage and situation exceeded our expectations. Craster itself is small but characterful and ideally placed for exploration to nearby Alnwick and the wonderful coastline north and south. The 30' walk immediately out of the cottage along the shore to Dunstanburgh Castle provides an exhilarating start to your holiday.

Herring House, Seahouses

Latest Review :

Claire B on 22/08/2015

We had a lovely family stay at Herring House in Seahouses. This cottage provided a great base to explore Seahouses and the surrounding area. We were a family of 5 adults (2 x couples and 1 single) and 1 child. Bedrooms were spacious with suitable storage. Although not essential to a holiday, it was nice having access to free WiFi in the cottage. Another bonus was parking for 2 cars. Can recommend a trip to the Farne Islands. We went with Serenity (book by the harbour in Seahouses) on the 1.5hr Grey Seals Cruise and were lucky enough to see a Minke Whale along with seals, purpoises and loads of birds. The commentary was interesting and the crew were happy to answer questions and have a chat. We didn't eat at the Ship Inn in Seahouses but did spend a few evenings enjoying a pint there. Busy, bustling pub with great local ale on draft. Recommend a day at Alnwick Gardens..maybe break it up with lunch at the Treehouse Restaurant. This was our second visit to both and would go back again. Bamburgh Castle is also worth a visit. Park at the free council car park on the main road on the left at the bottom of the castle (you have to pay for the castle car park) and walk up to the castle itself. Buy your tickets for Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick Gardens from Seahouses Information Centre for discounts! If you visit other places, check with the Information Centre to see if they offer discounts off those too. The rest of the time we spent on Bamburgh beach which is absolutely gorgeous and definitely rates as one of my favourite places to be. Miles of sandy beach, rock pools and paddles in the sea (weren't brave enough to risk full submersion!)!

Allison T on 24/06/2017

We had never been to Northumberland before and booked Quarry Bank with only 3 days lead time. The cottage was free on the dates we needed and the clincher was the outside space to relax and have breakfast and a glass of wine in the evening when our daughter was in bed. We loved the cottage, it had pretty much everything we needed for our stay. We could not believe how close we were to the village, just a 5 min walk to the local shop and the Craster Arms was so good, we went back a few times to eat while we were there. We went to the beach at Seahouses to fly a new kite and build sandcastles and when it rained there was, unbelievably, a huge soft play centre that we could take refuge in. Amazing! We went on a boat trip to see the seal colony and some birdlife, loads of providers at Seahouses harbour for you to choose from but for the most part we played on the beach and had some lovely family time. Banburgh Castle was beautiful too. We are definitely coming back and will stay at Quarry Bank again.

Loved the living area - the 2 double doors that open out to a great view of the sea, my parents really enjoyed sitting and taking in the views! The bedrooms were well appointed and had everything you needed. Lots of stairs within the property, so be mindful of this when booking if anyone in your party struggles with stairs. Seahouses itself is a great base for visiting the area - we had a day out to Wooler, Ford and Etal and Craster. Had a lovely meal at the Bamburgh Inn, in their beer garden, overlooking the sea. The beach was clean, and would definitely recommend turning right when you reach the harbour wall, just down from the cottage and go to the rocks/beach - very quiet and beautiful.’

We've just returned from a short break at this lovely property. Seascape has been modernised and upgraded sympathetically taking into consideration its surroundings - loads of little seaside themed pictures and ornaments etc. There were 3 of us in our party and it was a perfect size with plenty of room. The slippers and bathrobes were a nice touch and it was very much a ' home from home'. The location of Seascape is ideal literally a few minutes walk from the harbour. There is a great view from the living room overlooking Bamburgh Castle. There are several pubs within a 30 second walk. We had several nice meals in Seahouses. I'd recommend The Indian Brasserie and Ensieme Italian. If you have kids in tow a visit to Alnwick Castle is a must . Our daughter loved the broomstick training and Jester show. There was a bird of prey show on as well so spent the full day there. Overall we had a great time and Seahouses, whilst not as scenic as its neighbouring villages is a central location to base yourself and explore the region. Highly recommended!!

The cottage was excellent, everything had been well thought out. It was spotlessly clean and lovey and spacious. The village and area are nicely tucked away, but less than ten minutes from Bamburgh, so perfect for us. We enjoyed cycling around the virtually traffic free lanes and walking on the beaches. Hope to return soon.

I really enjoyed my stay at this little Sheperds Hut. Waking up with the birds sing. Had a visit of a deer next to the cabin. 2m distance. Very nice and relaxing to stay here. The Hut was nice and tidy. I had all that I needed in the cottage. When you’re looking for a nice small cottage in a private setting, surrounded by nature, then this is a place you want to look for.

The Cottages in Northumberland website provides good photos and description which attracted me to make the booking. I wasn't disappointed when we arrived as it was better than expected. This cottage is spotlessly clean everywhere and well decorated. It is better equipped than average for cooking, eating and laundering. The TV is a good size and the sofas comfortable. The bed linen and towels are of good quality as is the furniture in the cottage. We want to return to Simonside View in the near future and certainly recommend it to everyone. I found the online chat very helpful in making a selection as the young lady put forward three good options which met my requirements. The booking details were emailed expediently and were clear with additional helpful information about the area. This is the best cottage we have ever stayed at. The location is close to local facilities and there are superb views from the cottage with lots of footpaths to explore locally. Linda the owner kindly came to sort out a self inflicted heating problem and was very helpful.

Great location, lovely view. Nice touch with a welcoming box of shortbread, tea, coffee and wine - very thoughtful, thank you. The cottage was very clean throughout. Including all crockery, glasses, utensils etc. Plus there was enough equipment (hoover & mop etc) to keep it clean. The flat had everything you could possibly want. Would definitely recommend to others and we hope to come back to Northumberland again some day so I will come back to Cottages in Northumberland. May even try to go back to the same accommodation. he beach at Seahouses ticked all the boxes for us. For fish & chips in Seahouses go to Lewis's, they were delicious. The sausages and burgers from the butchers in Bamburgh lived up to their reputation! We went back for more to bring home.

Stable Cottage, Guyzance Hall, Amble and Warkworth Area

Latest Review :

Rod H on 02/09/2016

: The evening sun plastered the rough hewn stone of the hall buildings whilst the shade from the surrounding lime, oak and poplar trees dappled the stonework with mysterious patterns of light that danced to the only sounds to be heard, that of the house martins marshalling the myriad of insects into their beaks to feed their ravenous young waiting in nests clinging under the eaves of the lodgings. Far in the distance a single line of smoke from a coal fire eased its way skyward into the brilliant blue of that summer's eve. Away across the golden fields of corn and wheat the sea sparkled like an azure jewel, merging somewhere afar with the crystal blue of the sky that, tonight, would render a firework show, that only nature can provide, in the form of a meteor shower amongst the inky blackness of these unpolluted skies. Away in the woods, almost too far and too distant to be anything but imagined came the cry of a fox that echoed and added mystery to that place, where so few people were seen that curtains and bathroom locks were not really necessary.

Very clean cottage, everywhere was spotless. Lots of cooking equipment, books, local information. The folder was very useful especially the dog friendly information. Perfect location for our weeks stay. Short walk to amazing quiet dog friendly beach and excess to long distance walking path. Very short drive to Seahouses for more shops/pubs cafes. Quiet location yet not far from main road for visiting other popular destinations such as Alnwick Castle. Garden great for dogs-fully fenced. Roughly go to 3 - 5 cottages each year and this has been the nicest for facilities, countryside, beach and dog friendly. Would recommend to anyone. Hopefully we will come again next year.

The Piggery is a wonderfully secluded escape. Accessed by a winding farm road and situated on a 100 acre farm, the completely renovated stone building looks out across a ruined 11th C chapel and rolling countryside. The bedrooms are bright and modern, the living room spacious. There's great private walks past the chapel to the Derwent river, and easy access to the National Trust's Gibside estate across the road. Newcastle is 20 minutes and a world away.

Michael L on 18/06/2017

Set in a particularly attractive corner of Northumberland. The cottage offers rural tranquility with all the comforts of home. Well-equipped and furnished. Lots to see and do in the surrounding area - we particularly enjoyed watching the wildlife: some of the birds, mammals and plants are now largely gone from other areas of England. Lots of enjoyable walking - bracing up on the moors, gentler at lower level. A particularly attractive one is Letah Wood just south of Hexham. History and culture abound - Blanchland goes back more than 850 years, Hexham more than 1300 years, not to mention Hadrian's Wall; the lead mining museum at Killhope Wheel is a fantastic testament to a once prominent industry in the area. Several excellent traditional pubs in the area which offer good value home-made food, and most of which are dog friendly.

Just stayed, yet again, in this WONDERFUL little place. we have been coming here every year for almost 10 years now, and i can't recommend it enough ! So peaceful & beautiful at Bilton (nr. Alnmouth) We have stayed at various times of the year and the view out of the magnificent huge window, overlooking the countryside, is just breathtaking, and changes month by month. they've just had a SUPER new kitchen re-vamp. (and the "tatty" {RUSTIC} old gate, which i loved before anyway, has just had a make-over) We've even been twice some years, we like it that much. The owners, a lovely couple who live nearby, are the kind of people who would "go the extra mile" to help you when in need. Eleven out of ten ! Excellent all round !!!

Wagtail Cottage, Rothbury, Northumberland

Latest Review :

Catharine F on 27/05/2016

There was everything we required from the seating, eating area, kitchen was excellently equipped and the bedroom comfortable as was the bed. All was very clean cannot fault anything, all the facilities were excellent as previously stated. Wagtail Cottage is a lovely cottage for 2 people. The complex the cottage is in is well set out and the parking easily accessed. The only downside we found was that it was very rural, not too much of a problem except the road into Thropton was full of potholes, after Thropton the road was a little better into Rothbury. A must see visit is Cragside( National Trust), wonderful setting, beautiful gardens, lakes and woodland. The house itself was very interesting and the history behind Lord Armstrong and his invention of hydro-electricity used in the house, the first of its kind. There is an interesting exhibition of the life and work of Lord Armstrong, just by the tea room. Food tasty as well. From the cottage we visited Alnwick Castle and Garden - well worth a visit, wonderfully designed gardens and water feature. Castle also fascinating along with the history. Lindisfarne is another place to visit and there are too many castles to mention, but if you like castles and the history behind there existence then Northumberland is the place to go!
