We always enjoy our holiday here. The cottage has the best position in the whole of Northumberland! The cottage itself wants for nothing- beautifully furnished. Meals at The Ship are a must-you always get a warm welcome. Some of our favourite walks are to Football Hole, of course the walk to Craster from Low Newton and along the beach at Sugar Sands to Boulmer stopping for lunch at the pub there. Our two dogs also like a trip to Thrunton Woods which is particularly good if the weather is misty on the coast or cold and showery.

Very modern decor, comfortable and warm with everything we needed to make our stay with our dog very easy. Beautiful area - we'd never been to Northumberland before and are wondering why we hadn't. People are very friendly and the area very clean. We have a dog and you are made to feel very welcome on the beaches and in pubs etc. There aren't loads of notices presuming dog owners are irresponsible. Very surprised at how little we had to pay or not, for car parking - a pleasant surprise. Facilities in the cottage excellent. Would highly recommend these cottages and this beautiful place in Britain.

Belford Townhouse, Bamburgh

Latest Review :

Kate R on 09/09/2016

Lovely decor and the sitting room and bedrooms were great. The Belford Townhouse stands in the market square opposite the Blue Bell Inn - an old coaching stop. Its light and airy rooms overlook the market cross and the church steps. It's extremely convenient for Lindisfarne and Bamburgh and just a mile off the A1 so easy to reach. Our visit was brief but we'd recommend The White Swan in Warenford for meals and the Blue Bell Inn for their folk night (very skilled and gentle), good beers and satisfying bar food. Lindisfarne is magical of course - but we'd advise getting across as soon as the causeway opens (not difficult when you're so near to begin with) and getting straight on with what you want to see - the Castle and the Priory get very busy. We had a great lunch at The Pilgrim Cafe there then walked the beaches. The beach at Bamburgh (with the castle lowering behind) is unbelievably clean and beautiful and our whippet loved the sand beneath his paws, as did many, many other dogs - no restrictions here.

Had a trip out to the Farnes & went inside the lighthouse that Grace Darling lived in. Chain ridge Honey Farm up the A1 is definitely worth a visit. We have just returned from a week away at Cobblestone Cottage in North Sunderland very near Seahouses. We have all thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. The cottage was of a very high standard, spotlessly clean with every home comfort needed including a well equipped kitchen. The owners seem to have thought of everything to aim to please and it did. We appreciated the welcome hamper in the kitchen and the toiletries in the master bedroom, must also mention the sweets in the pumpkin pots in the girls bedroom very nice too.The cottage is situated in a quiet, secluded cul-de-sac just near Seahouses within walking distance to the local amenities and the beautiful beach which our little dogs loved. If you like indian food The Spice House is definitely worth a visit. The girls went horse riding with Slate riding school which they enjoyed very much.We are definitely thinking of staying here again at Cobblestone cottage. Its our first time in Northumberland and we all loved it.

The cottage was very well equipped and homely. It was really clean, no complaints whatsoever. Regarding the facilities, I can't actually think of anything lacking at the cottage, that we have at home. We will certainly recommend Fairways Beadnell to all my family and friends. We had never been to Northumberland before and found your information prior to our visit really helpful. The position of this cottage is ideal for visiting all the local areas. We visited Bamburgh (loved the beach and castle). Spent some hours on Holy Island (which is very spiritual and natural). Went to Craster and purchased some kippers from the smoke house there (delicious). We walked along many of the spectacular beaches with our two dogs (the area is completely dog friendly). We spent a lovely day at Berwick on Tweed, which was enjoyable and historic. Finally where we stayed in Beadnell there is an incredibly well stocked local store which stocks just about anything you can think of and is open daily. Lastly the local people are so warm and friendly. A lovely holiday in a lovely cottage in a lovely area!!

Roger J on 10/09/2016

Cottage was adequate for our needs with a balcony overlooking the very busy harbour at Seahouses. The resort of Seahouses appears to be one of the busier of the fishing type villages on this part of the Northumberland coast, we say this even though we visited at a time when the children had mostly gone back to school. If the reader of this is looking for something very quiet Seahouses may not be for them. However, it has got some life and bustle about it. We would definitely recommend a trip to the Farne Islands (even thought the puffins have now left), where there is all sorts of bird life, seals and we were lucky enough to see a large pod of dolphins. Definitely worth visiting Holy Island, Craster and Berwick-upon-Tweed. Walks to the East and West of Seahouses are easy to find and take you along beautiful long sandy beaches. Also, check out when the life boat are doing an exercise launch as its an amazing spectacle and one not to be missed.

It was a lovely house. Nice and warm & lovely beds and linen. The beach & visitor centre were great. We enjoyed our week in Heron's Beck. There was plenty of room, nice cotton bed linen and a pleasant half hour walk to the sea and nature reserve (with little ones). The kitchen needed a few more saucepans and some lids! But it was fun and sparkly with lots of twinkles and lights and gadgets, including an ice maker!

Herring House, Seahouses

We had a lovely family stay at Herring House in Seahouses. This cottage provided a great base to explore Seahouses and the surrounding area. We were a family of 5 adults (2 x couples and 1 single) and 1 child. Bedrooms were spacious with suitable storage. Although not essential to a holiday, it was nice having access to free WiFi in the cottage. Another bonus was parking for 2 cars. Can recommend a trip to the Farne Islands. We went with Serenity (book by the harbour in Seahouses) on the 1.5hr Grey Seals Cruise and were lucky enough to see a Minke Whale along with seals, purpoises and loads of birds. The commentary was interesting and the crew were happy to answer questions and have a chat. We didn't eat at the Ship Inn in Seahouses but did spend a few evenings enjoying a pint there. Busy, bustling pub with great local ale on draft. Recommend a day at Alnwick Gardens..maybe break it up with lunch at the Treehouse Restaurant. This was our second visit to both and would go back again. Bamburgh Castle is also worth a visit. Park at the free council car park on the main road on the left at the bottom of the castle (you have to pay for the castle car park) and walk up to the castle itself. Buy your tickets for Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick Gardens from Seahouses Information Centre for discounts! If you visit other places, check with the Information Centre to see if they offer discounts off those too. The rest of the time we spent on Bamburgh beach which is absolutely gorgeous and definitely rates as one of my favourite places to be. Miles of sandy beach, rock pools and paddles in the sea (weren't brave enough to risk full submersion!)!

Happy Guests on 09/09/2016

I stayed at Millfield house for 2 weeks. The property was VERY clean. The furniture and appliances are of good quality. On arrival there was scented sticks in most rooms plus plugins which I found very over powering but obviously other people like them. I collected them up and placed them under the stairs, which solved the problem. The downstairs is perfect for those with pets as easy to clean floor. Comfortable sofa. The house is on a fairly busy country road but after 10pm is quiet. There is a regular bus service, I had a hire car so I didn't use. I particularly liked the upstairs bedroom furniture which is old but in excellent condition. The only problem I had was the bed which I found very uncomfortable as I could feel the springs, I bought a cheap mattress topper and used the single duvets which solved the problem. The reason why I am giving 5 stars for this property is because of the owners reaction to this. After I left I received an email thanking me for leaving the house in a good state and that she had purchased a mattress topper. This is what you want when there is a problem. When it comes to beds everyone's preference differs. After the first week I was going to wash the sheets but Maccine gave me a clean set, this wasn't expected. The owner lives next door so reassuring if you are on your own. Very central for metro centre and Durham.

Riley's Retreat, Seahouses

Latest Review :

Adam R on 31/10/2016

The cottage is on the edge of Seahouses but is only a slow five minute walk to the centre of town. The cottage is opposite a bridle way leading into the Northumberland way. The coastal area here is stunning and you don't have to travel far to be on a soft sand beach with nobody else around. The cottage is open plan with an excellent kitchen area and dining area, there is a spiral steel staircase leading to the first floor. The living area is lovely and homely. There are two good size settees and an armchair around the wood burning stove which we used and it's gorgeous to relax in. On the first floor are three bedrooms and bathroom. The beds are comfy and the rooms spacious. The bathroom is well presented. There is a conservatory but a bit to cold for us to use in late October. The garden is flat and is secure so ideal for dog owners. We only stayed for two nights but when we left my wife commented that she wished we were staying longer as it felt like home. This is huge praise indeed from my wife. The area itself is beautiful with nice pubs to eat in and overlook the harbour. The pubs had dog friendly sections as well. The Northumberland coast line is beautiful and to some degree a well kept secret. Highly recommend Riley's Retreat, if you are a dog lover Seahouses and surrounding areas are dog friendly and dog accessible beaches. I walked from Amble to Seahouses and the heritage of castles is stunning.

The Shepherd's Hut was just perfect for the 5 of us (my husband and me, our 2 boys and dog). Quirky, rustic and beautifully made, the Hut felt like a secret retreat. Just the right amount of space around us to make it feel like we were tucked away, but so close to so many brilliant things to visit. Gibside was lovely, and we stayed until late to eat the freshly baked pizzas under fairy lights. Beamish, Hadrian's Wall, National Trust's Wallington House and the Derwent Water walks were all great. Pretty good meal out at the Red Kite too. Brilliant 3 nights away.

Simonside View, Rothbury

Latest Review :

Greg G on 20/08/2016

This was a lovely cottage with ample space for our family and with good facilities. The views from the living room and dining room balcony stretch across the dale to the opposite hills. Unusually, the living space and kitchen is on the top floor and the bedrooms underneath - this means the better views are to be had from the living room and dining room - makes sense really. The cottage is semi detached but we did not see or hear the neighbours all week. It is well equipped for staying a full week, there is ample hot water and the sauna is a nice addition. Most important - it was spotlessly clean. The cottage is built on the side of a hill - there is a steep way to it by road or a shorter path through the garden onto a public footpath - torches will be needed in darker months. It's a five minute walk into Rothbury where there are enough interesting shops and pubs to pass quite a bit of time. The Turk's Head has a good value food - the cheaper 'light bites' on its menu are surprisingly large. The co-op has all the essentials, additionally there are bakers, a butchers with amazing sausages, several cafes, an art and craft shop run by a group of very talented people and much more. There are regular buses to Newcastle and Alnwick which, at £13 for a full day family ticket, make driving to these places unnecessary. We spent most of our time relaxing in the cottage and in Rothbury but we also visited Cragside - an estate and house 2 miles away. I recommend this, as I do Alnmouth for an unspoilt beach.

: The evening sun plastered the rough hewn stone of the hall buildings whilst the shade from the surrounding lime, oak and poplar trees dappled the stonework with mysterious patterns of light that danced to the only sounds to be heard, that of the house martins marshalling the myriad of insects into their beaks to feed their ravenous young waiting in nests clinging under the eaves of the lodgings. Far in the distance a single line of smoke from a coal fire eased its way skyward into the brilliant blue of that summer's eve. Away across the golden fields of corn and wheat the sea sparkled like an azure jewel, merging somewhere afar with the crystal blue of the sky that, tonight, would render a firework show, that only nature can provide, in the form of a meteor shower amongst the inky blackness of these unpolluted skies. Away in the woods, almost too far and too distant to be anything but imagined came the cry of a fox that echoed and added mystery to that place, where so few people were seen that curtains and bathroom locks were not really necessary.

Perfectly appointed. Wonderful location. Spotlessly clean. Sundial Cottage could not have been any more perfect for our stay in Amble. It was the first time my husband had returned to the area in 60 years - after being born there 68 years ago and he says had he know how lovely the town still was he would have returned long ago.

Outstanding. Beautifully decorated, bedrooms a good size with ample storage - wardrobe, tall boy, dressing table, full length mirror. Beds very comfortable.Extremely happy. High standard of cleanliness. The facilities were amazing - everything was supplied, such as dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, even laundry basket. Kitchen well stocked with crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils. Have already recommended The Barn to friends who live locally and are planning to book in September this year. It was amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

A beautiful cottage in a stunning location. The interior is well designed, snug and comfortable. The wall map and hung photographs of the surrounding area lend themselves perfectly to planning days out and about from a walk up Simonside to a wander around Dunstanburgh Castle. I have spent a lot of time on the coast of Northumberland and sugar sands, a short walk from the cottage, is one of my favourite beaches due to its secluded feel and white sand. All in all, a perfect little retreat.

First class accommodation, spotlessly clean. All appliances and cutlery provided including towels and linen. Beautiful area that was so quiet and relaxing yet within walking distance of local amenities and attractions. Surrounded by outstanding country side and lovely locals. Highly recommend this property for de-stressing and relaxing but if you want to remain active you can with Tennis in nearby Hexham and Golf and many attractions, especially Kielder, to keep you busy. Private and perfect for two people.

Cottage was cosy and in a convenient location near the beach. We enjoyed running on the beaches, spending a lazy afternoon reading and drinking tea in Barters Books. Lovely meal at the Jolly Fisherman in Craster and another at the tree-house restaurant in Alnwick castle. Very relaxing and peaceful stay, just what we were after!

Space, furnishings and equipment all first class and all facilities well maintained. Although only a 20 minute walk from the village (and excellent pub!) the cottage felt very secluded. Fantastic 'dark sky' star gazing, lots of interesting country roads to drive around locally. Hexham, the nearest town, is really nice with interesting historical sites and all the facilities - including swimming pool - that you might need. The drive to Hexham, on a winding road, takes about 30 minutes. Speaking of driving, park and ride for Durham. Car parking in the city is a nightmare! Beamish definitely worth a visit although its expensive so make a day of it.

Ideal cottage for two, great places to eat in Alnmouth especially Bistro 23, fantastic evening meal but only open for evenings on a Saturday and Wednesday night but also do great food for dinner, (try the pepper and tomato soup with a hint of chilli), the village tea rooms also do really large tea cakes and welcomes dogs. In Alnmouth, barter books is a must and the Swan Hotel do a great 3 course evening meal, (you can use virgin experience vouchers here as well). We also used the village post office in Alnmouth for a delivery of groceries and Nick not only delivered but also put everything into the cottage along with food into the fridge/freezer, great service.

Wagtail Cottage, Rothbury, Northumberland

Latest Review :

Catharine F on 27/05/2016

There was everything we required from the seating, eating area, kitchen was excellently equipped and the bedroom comfortable as was the bed. All was very clean cannot fault anything, all the facilities were excellent as previously stated. Wagtail Cottage is a lovely cottage for 2 people. The complex the cottage is in is well set out and the parking easily accessed. The only downside we found was that it was very rural, not too much of a problem except the road into Thropton was full of potholes, after Thropton the road was a little better into Rothbury. A must see visit is Cragside( National Trust), wonderful setting, beautiful gardens, lakes and woodland. The house itself was very interesting and the history behind Lord Armstrong and his invention of hydro-electricity used in the house, the first of its kind. There is an interesting exhibition of the life and work of Lord Armstrong, just by the tea room. Food tasty as well. From the cottage we visited Alnwick Castle and Garden - well worth a visit, wonderfully designed gardens and water feature. Castle also fascinating along with the history. Lindisfarne is another place to visit and there are too many castles to mention, but if you like castles and the history behind there existence then Northumberland is the place to go!

Warm, comfortable and in a great situation. The cottage was very clean - all rooms cleaned to an equal standard. We have stayed in this cottage a number of times - we knew what to expect & we're not disappointed. We like places off the beaten track and to discover the area for ourselves, we stay in your cottages a number of times a year and so would recommend them. Overall a comfortable and well appointed cottage in an area of outstanding natural beauty. We loved to walk along the beach and enjoy the countryside.

The house is warm and cosy and with the front room multi burner stove working it was very special. We walked to Beadnell, Bamburgh and Snook point in glorious weather and had bus rides to Alnwick and Berwick for life in the "big "metropolis. Another good walk started and ended at Low Newton which has a really good pub for both beer and food very busy on the day we went even in mid November. It looked like the pictures on the web site which is always a good thing. Both times we have been to one of your cottages we have been impressed with your service and conditions of the properties.

Woodpecker Mill is a delight to stay in and we would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to experience this beautiful region. The property is tastefully decorated with high quality furnishings. The beds are really comfortable and ensure a very good night's sleep. The kitchen is very well equipped with a marvelous cooker. The property is lovely and warm and a treat to come back to after some long days exploring the beautiful countryside and towns. ( Wallington Hall, Farne Islands, Lindisfarne, Alnwick and Barter Books, Dunstanburgh castle.) The welcome pack and fresh flowers were very much appreciated and our Cocker Spaniel, loved the treats left for him too.
