Very happy, bedding and linen were modern and bedroom furniture was lovely, very helpful to find washing up liquid, soap, rubber gloves etc as you don't want to bring these things or have to go an buy them. Many thanks. Super property in the heart of the village, added benefit of parking and small courtyard garden. Great location. Bars and restaurants all very child/dog friendly. We will come back to this area again.

Ian K on 23/07/2016

The cottage accorded with the description and our expectations The laundering of the duvet cover was disappointing, otherwise the cleanliness was excellent. The facilities were good . The provision of 2 large scale O.S. maps was very useful. We enjoy holidays in Northumberland , an area which is perhaps not often considered by families from the midlands or further south. This may be due to the distance, however we drove home to Leicester in exactly 4 hours.

Georgina H on 02/07/2016

Very spacious and well presented. Cottage was spotless. Had everything we needed for our stay. Would love to return again and would definitely recommend to family and friends. This cottage was spacious and clean and had everything you would need for a weeks stay. The toaster would not work so I called the office and a replacement was brought to us in less than 15 minutes; excellent service. We were impressed with the property which was spacious and contained everything we needed for our week in Seahouses. The property was very clean and well maintained. Whilst we were there the toaster did not work, we phoned and we received a replacement within 15 minutes of our call (excellent service). I would however suggest taking off the picture from the site of what I misconstrued as a potential welcome pack which we did not receive. I would however this did not spoil our holiday.

We always enjoy our holiday here. The cottage has the best position in the whole of Northumberland! The cottage itself wants for nothing- beautifully furnished. Meals at The Ship are a must-you always get a warm welcome. Some of our favourite walks are to Football Hole, of course the walk to Craster from Low Newton and along the beach at Sugar Sands to Boulmer stopping for lunch at the pub there. Our two dogs also like a trip to Thrunton Woods which is particularly good if the weather is misty on the coast or cold and showery.

This cottage for 2 was a great find for us. It was so easy to find - just off the A1 and so near to Bamburgh! In fact, it is so near to all the places of interest. The cottage was so welcoming - so easy to relax here. So well presented with a beautiful view from the 2 patio doors! Shower room was really good - the shower was very powerful. Everything you need here for a good stay. Would recommend the Castle Inn at Bamburgh for your meals! Needless to say we had it all here. Would recommend this cottage to any couple - you will not be disappointed.

Every time we visit Northumberland we discover a new walk or place to visit. This time we found a lovely walk from Howick to Craster along the Coastal Path. We of course stopped off at The Jolly Fisherman for crab sandwiches! We also visited Amble for the first time and enjoyed fantastic ice-cream at Spurreli's.We had a lovely walk on a very quiet beach at Low Hauxley afterwards. Our dogs Monti and Maisy give Low Newton and Beach Retreat 10 out of 10!!!

Beggars roost is a delightful cottage in Craster. It sits right on the sea front with beautiful views. It has a private parking space which in Craster is fantastic and there are some wonderful restaurants in Craster itself along with their famous smokehouse for kippers! Close to Alnwick and Beadnell which both house great family attractions with the castle and gardens and beach for kite flying and water sports. The cottage is perfect for a family with 2 bedrooms and a nice outdoor area for bbqs and alfresco dining.

Belford Townhouse, Bamburgh

Latest Review :

Happy Guests on 30/04/2015

We stayed at Belford Townhouse as a family for a long weekend. We absolutely loved the house and had a fantastic family break. We hadn't been to Belford before but were pleasantly surprised by the local facilities - shop, few pubs, fish and chip shop, nice cafe / farm shop (called Sunnyhills - very good coffee and lunch) with kids play park and small independent shops. It's only a 5 minute drive along the spectacular coastline down to Bamburgh for a great beach, castle and further restaurants and pubs (we recommend the beach directly behind the castle). The location is perfect, not far from anywhere - we went to Holy Island for a day trip which is only 15 mins away. The house has a big entrance hall, (perfect for storing scooters!) with private parking area and a garden which is enclosed and seems to be a sun trap, even at this time of year. The property has been recently renovated and carefully furnished with an eye for detail - the owners had been in touch via email and text before and during our stay to check everything was ok. They had even left fresh eggs from their hens for us to enjoy! We found the house was really well equipped (the kitchen even had cookery books) and was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The lounge is a grand space and has two large windows seats overlooking the village square. All bedrooms have stunning views from the top floors, and the twin room has a great selection of games and toys for the children.. Great place for hide and seek according to the kids! We will hopefully be coming back for the summer hols or long weekend break, and will definitely recommend to friends and family. Thanks again!

Border Cottage, Alnmouth

Latest Review :

Hazel A on 20/08/2016

Border Cottage Alnmouth is the perfect base for exploring some of Northumberland's fabulous beaches, castles and villages. The cottage is a five minute walk from a fabulous sandy beach and each of the bedrooms has a seaview. The beds and bedding are wonderfully comfortable. Three large sofas in the lounge make relaxing easy. There is a wooden bench outside which enjoys the morning sun and is a wonderful place to sit and have a quiet read. We enjoyed great walks to Dunstanburgh Castle, around Alnwick (the gardens are well worth a visit) Craster to Howick (ending with a cream tea at Howick Hall) and Lindisfarne on Holy Island (the Gertrude Jekyll garden is a jewellery box of colour in this environment). We will return :)

Penny M on 02/07/2016

Castle View exceeded expectations as the views were much better than pictured on the website. The caretaker was really helpful and knowledgeable about the area and gave us some great tips about places to visit. We would definitely visit again, there is so much to see in the area that we did not have enough time to cover it all. The vouchers provided with the booking came in very useful and it was great having them all in one place so it was easy to organise and plan. The beaches are beautiful, the whole area feels undiscovered in the sense that places aren't too overcrowded. There are so many castles and historic attractions, one of them being Cragside which you could visit again and again as the grounds are so vast and beautiful. The Tree-house Restaurant at Alnwick Gardens is magical and the food is delicious. The people of Northumberland are so friendly and welcoming, we had a great time and hope to return in the near future!

We were an extended family group spread across 4 generations and the cottage was ideal for our needs. Spacious downstairs with a large dining table, lots of sofas and a Wii for the 9 and 12 year old to play on. Location was great, with a sea view from upstairs and a beach less than 5 minutes away to take the grandson too. Better beaches and sand dunes north of Seahouses only 5 minutes away were the best choice. Easy to walk into Seahouses and great local amenities including an excellent bakers and fishmongers. We went a great day at Alnwick Castle - very well run and managed and a cut above what Merlin Group put on at Warwick Castle. Other than that we did the usual things - trip to the Farnes, trip to Holy Island and visits to Craster and Low Newton. My son and his partner went diving off the Farnes and really enjoyed it, whilst my 11 year old daughter enjoyed some horse riding. In terms of eating out, the artisan Pizzeria in Seahouses is very good, and we enjoyed the Joiners Arms at High Newton, and the Victoria Hotel in Bamburgh.

Very peaceful setting but close to main routes around the county. The living area is deceptively spacious but very cosy. The whole cottage has a relaxing feel to it.The bedroom and en suite are very sumptuous and there are lovely pieces of glass art dotted round the cottage made by the owner. It was a complete treat. Very spacious, more than enough room for six adults and three children. The cottage had everything we needed. The weather was good so we didn't need to use the heating, so could not comment on that side of things. Its so easy to get to everywhere you would want to go. We visited Holy Island, The Farne Islands and other National Trust places in the area. We were lucky enough to see Dolphin off the coast of Craster and were told they appear regularly. This was about 6.45 at night. We managed to see lots of Puffins but were told that they would be gone in about a week. Visitors need to know that the bird population is best seen in May and June. Also, maybe warn visitors to keep their fish and chips to themselves. If food is thrown about the birds come in and it could be very distressing to some people.

Lovely cottage with beautiful views, well equipped, very clean and nicely decorated. Harbourside Cottage at Craster was excellent and the view from the cottage is outstanding. The area had lots to do for all ages. We loved Alnwick gardens and the walk along to Dunstanborough castle. A week is not long enough to fit everything in. Heron's Beck, Druridge Bay

Latest Review :

Joanna M on 23/07/2016

Our week's stay at Heron's Beck was just superb. A beautiful property perfectly located for exploring the area both on foot, thanks to the fantastic network of footpaths, and by car to the myriad of diverse places of interest. Our party ranged in age from 17 to 85 and everyone had one of the best UK holidays we have ever experienced. A walk to the stunning Druridge Bay beach at sunset is just magical. The landing trip to the Farne Islands with seals, puffins, terns, kittiwakes and so many more should be a must as should the peace and tranquility of Lindisfarne when it is cut off from the mainland. Howick gardens, Bamburgh Castle and even dolphins in Caster Bay. We will most definitely be back thanks to the service, quality and location of the great property. Wish we could keep it as our secret! One of the best stays in the UK we have had out of very, very many.

Herring House, Seahouses

Latest Review :

Claire B on 22/08/2015

We had a lovely family stay at Herring House in Seahouses. This cottage provided a great base to explore Seahouses and the surrounding area. We were a family of 5 adults (2 x couples and 1 single) and 1 child. Bedrooms were spacious with suitable storage. Although not essential to a holiday, it was nice having access to free WiFi in the cottage. Another bonus was parking for 2 cars. Can recommend a trip to the Farne Islands. We went with Serenity (book by the harbour in Seahouses) on the 1.5hr Grey Seals Cruise and were lucky enough to see a Minke Whale along with seals, purpoises and loads of birds. The commentary was interesting and the crew were happy to answer questions and have a chat. We didn't eat at the Ship Inn in Seahouses but did spend a few evenings enjoying a pint there. Busy, bustling pub with great local ale on draft. Recommend a day at Alnwick Gardens..maybe break it up with lunch at the Treehouse Restaurant. This was our second visit to both and would go back again. Bamburgh Castle is also worth a visit. Park at the free council car park on the main road on the left at the bottom of the castle (you have to pay for the castle car park) and walk up to the castle itself. Buy your tickets for Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick Gardens from Seahouses Information Centre for discounts! If you visit other places, check with the Information Centre to see if they offer discounts off those too. The rest of the time we spent on Bamburgh beach which is absolutely gorgeous and definitely rates as one of my favourite places to be. Miles of sandy beach, rock pools and paddles in the sea (weren't brave enough to risk full submersion!)!

Well appointed cottage, well thought out, care had been taken with design. A genuinely warm welcome form the owner, nothing was too much trouble. The 'goodies' were much appreciated. It's a comfy cottage that has been lovingly furnished and decorated. It is also a rather quiet and sunny place and Maccine gave us a very warm welcome. We were very satisfied and felt at home in this cottage and your kind services for us are highly appreciated :) The cottage first reminded me a bit of "Wuthering Heights" as it is located on top of a hill where you have lovely sights on many sides. It is lovingly furnished and decorated and equipped with everything you will need. There's a big Tesco in Annfield Plain (just a few miles down the road) and a nice, little village -Lancaster- just down the hill where you will find restaurants, a post office, a cafe, etc. Durham with its famous cathedral and castle are not too far. You can explore famous sites such as Berwick-upon-Tweed, the Holy Island Lindisfarne and the ancient royal seat of Anglo-Saxon Northumbria Bamburgh Castle and of course Alnwick Castle, the seat of the Percy family (dukes of Northumberland). All these attractions are "lined up" at the A1 motorway. A must is for me also Hadrian's Wall and its excellent Roman forts and museums. All this may be reached from this lovely cottage. If you are a lover of historical sites there is a plenty of attractions and if you like walking, you will find an awesome nature.

We stayed at Rose Cottage in Beadnell for one week in July 2016. We found the cottage to be extremely welcoming with everything included to make our stay enjoyable. All furnishings were of very high quality. The cottage is centrally situated within the village, next door to the fabulous Craster Arms - their weekend music festival is a must if you happen to be in town at the right time and their food is divine!! The Towers is on the other side and they have a very comfortable bar with quiz night. The cottage is a two minute walk from the children's play park and a five minute walk from the gorgeous Beadnell Bay beach - we spent most evenings on the beach tiring out the dog! The village shop has everything you need to stock up but Seahouses is just a short drive away offering a co-op and lots of other shops for browsing round and the harbour is great for boat and fishing trips. We'll definitely be back to Rose Cottage in the future.

The three wheat heads pub in Thropton should be recommended for high quality food with the proviso to book ahead. Cragside is a must visit particularly for National Trust members with young families as this is worth more than 1 visit on a longer stay to fully explore the house and grounds. This was a lovely cottage with ample space for our family and with good facilities. The views from the living room and dining room balcony stretch across the dale to the opposite hills. Unusually, the living space and kitchen is on the top floor and the bedrooms underneath - this means the better views are to be had from the living room and dining room - makes sense really. The cottage is semi detached but we did not see or hear the neighbours all week. It is well equipped for staying a full week, there is ample hot water and the sauna is a nice addition. Most important - it was spotlessly clean. The cottage is built on the side of a hill - there is a steep way to it by road or a shorter path through the garden onto a public footpath - torches will be needed in darker months. It's a five minute walk into Rothbury where there are enough interesting shops and pubs to pass quite a bit of time. The Turk's Head has a good value food - the cheaper 'light bites' on its menu are surprisingly large. The co-op has all the essentials, additionally there are bakers, a butchers with amazing sausages, several cafes, an art and craft shop run by a group of very talented people and much more. There are regular buses to Newcastle and Alnwick which, at £13 for a full day family ticket, make driving to these places unnecessary. We spent most of our time relaxing in the cottage and in Rothbury but we also visited Cragside - an estate and house 2 miles away. I recommend this, as I do Alnmouth for an unspoilt beach.

Sound of the Sea, Seahouses

Sheila P on 02/07/2016

The flat had very good facilities for everything. The location was wonderful with very easy access to the beach and attractions as well as shops. There was everything you could wish for. Children were really well catered for as well as adults, you could just look out of the double doors and be transported to a fantastic place. There are plenty of places to get a variety of food to eat out,or to do shopping and cook at the flat. There is even a great pint to be had for dad if he likes real ales, in the oldest pub in Seahouses, named "The Ship Inn". Oh and they do fantastic food. Great holiday. Visited Bamburgh Castle and too many other places that were in easy reach to mention. A must is the Farne Islands with the seals, puffins and all the other birds. Don't forget your hat if you do go there as the birds really like peck your head. Thank you again Aimee.

Love Seahouses village and magnificent easily accessed places such as Lindisfarne, Berwick, St Abbs Head, Hadrian's Wall, Northumbria National Park, Bamburgh Castle, small fishing villages like Craster and Alnmouth and of course the fabulous Farnes. Local lovely places to eat were the Links and the Old Ship in Seahouses and the Fishing Boat Inn near Alnwick. The Smoked Fish house, 50 yards away, is fantastic. The cottage was lovely and the week's weather was fantastic - sunny and warm all week! Really great relaxing week which we thoroughly enjoyed!

Sundial Cottage, Amble

Latest Review :

Andrina V on 16/07/2016

Super location, homely feel, every need catered for. Sundial Cottage looks out on the harbour square, marina and over to Warkworth Castle. It is within two minutes walk of a supermarket, a superb fish restaurant, a memorable ice-cream parlour, a 'chippy', a good Chinese takeaway, and a new shopping experience - 'craft and accessories' retail pods. We found the Sunday Market a good introduction to Amble, and a leaflet at the cottage, which shows two local walks, led to the harbour walk being a daily constitutional. Outside Amble we visited Alnwick Castle and Gardens and Barter Books in Alnwick, a place of pilgrimage for any reader. Bamburgh Castle, Warkworth Castle and Lindisfarne Castle are all different and worth a visit. The Grace Darling Museum and the Copper Kettle in Bamburgh, the Old Smokehouse restaurant in Craster and Lindisfarne Abbey are also on our "to-do-again" list. We are looking forward to staying in Sundial Cottage again soon.

Outstanding. Beautifully decorated, bedrooms a good size with ample storage - wardrobe, tall boy, dressing table, full length mirror. Beds very comfortable.Extremely happy. High standard of cleanliness. The facilities were amazing - everything was supplied, such as dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, even laundry basket. Kitchen well stocked with crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils. Have already recommended The Barn to friends who live locally and are planning to book in September this year. It was amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

The Deeps Cottage is spacious, well equipped and beautiful surroundings. Good size, well equipped, lovely peaceful surroundings. Relatively clean but depends on your own standards. Plenty of storage in bedrooms, kitchen, cloakroom brilliant especially with a dog and would be needed if weather wet. Blanchland also beautiful, friendly and excellent provision for visitors. Plenty walks near by including Derwent Reservoir. Stanhope well worth a visit and not too far by car with historical interest and more walks. Plenty places to visit.

First class accommodation, spotlessly clean. All appliances and cutlery provided including towels and linen. Beautiful area that was so quiet and relaxing yet within walking distance of local amenities and attractions. Surrounded by outstanding country side and lovely locals. Highly recommend this property for de-stressing and relaxing but if you want to remain active you can with Tennis in nearby Hexham and Golf and many attractions, especially Kielder, to keep you busy. Private and perfect for two people.

The Loft, Beadnell

Latest Review :

Anne W on 29/07/2016

We stayed at The Loft in Swinhoe mainly as a couple with our three spaniels but with family visiting for three nights. The cottage is very spacious with plenty of seating inside and out. There was plenty of room for everybody when fully occupied but it did not feel too big with just the two of us. The cottage is very well equipped and evidently dog friendly. There was a welcome pack of tea/coffee etc and a bottle of wine. The fully enclosed back garden was a bonus for the dogs and it was a nice sunny place to spend time. The farmer at the back was very friendly as was the man who came to cut the grass - he recommended a great pub which we may not otherwise have tried. For eating out we would recommend The Joiner's Arms at Newton which is dog friendly and does excellent restaurant quality food. Other other favourite (recommended by the gardener) was the Cottage Inn. Their Sunday lunch was particularly good. A bit further afield, we also frequented The Hermitage inn at Warkworth and The White Swan at Warenford which we had visited on previous holidays. Both are excellent. We also had fish and chips sitting by the harbour at Seahouses followed by a drink in the beer garden at The Bamburgh Castle inn which has excellent views across to Bamburgh Castle. We visited a number of dog friendly heritage sites including Warkworth Castle, Dunstanburgh Castle and Hadrian's Wall. Warkworth is probably one of the nicest villages in Northumberland and has a medieval bridge, riverside walks, gift shops and a beach a short walk away. We went to Dunstanburgh from Craster, visiting the castle and the beach and then had crab sandwiches afterwards. A good walk along the beach can be had by parking up at Bamburgh and walking to Seahouses and back along the beach. The nearest and best beaches are at Beadnell, Newton and Embleton. Cragside is worth a visit. Dogs cannot go in the house but we took turns to go in. The grounds are extensive and there is a 6 mile estate drive with stop off points. Had we known, we would have taken a packed lunch and spent the day there. It was a brilliant fun packed holiday (for both us and the dogs), in a beautiful cottage.

Wagtail Cottage, Rothbury, Northumberland

Latest Review :

Catharine F on 27/05/2016

There was everything we required from the seating, eating area, kitchen was excellently equipped and the bedroom comfortable as was the bed. All was very clean cannot fault anything, all the facilities were excellent as previously stated. Wagtail Cottage is a lovely cottage for 2 people. The complex the cottage is in is well set out and the parking easily accessed. The only downside we found was that it was very rural, not too much of a problem except the road into Thropton was full of potholes, after Thropton the road was a little better into Rothbury. A must see visit is Cragside( National Trust), wonderful setting, beautiful gardens, lakes and woodland. The house itself was very interesting and the history behind Lord Armstrong and his invention of hydro-electricity used in the house, the first of its kind. There is an interesting exhibition of the life and work of Lord Armstrong, just by the tea room. Food tasty as well. From the cottage we visited Alnwick Castle and Garden - well worth a visit, wonderfully designed gardens and water feature. Castle also fascinating along with the history. Lindisfarne is another place to visit and there are too many castles to mention, but if you like castles and the history behind there existence then Northumberland is the place to go!
