Mr and Mrs H on 11/08/2017

Everything we needed for a holiday. The shower was a really good size so not having to feel enclosed in a box. Well presented everything clean and tidy. The cottage is lovely and the small garden great for sitting in after a busy day. Bamburgh is close by and not far to other beautiful beaches. If you fancy a longer drive then there is Hadrian's Wall and Cragside to visit. Plenty to see and do for all ages. Found the team very helpful and the situation of the cottage could not have been better.

We very much enjoyed our week at 94, Middle Street. It is a lovely, clean and cosy property and it really made our stay in Northumberland very pleasant and comfortable. We certainly hope to stay again! Too marks for all the facilities, towels and WiFi...our only gripe would be the armchair which was a little uncomfortable which we now know will be sorted out at the end of August. Everything else ...GREAT!

Beech Cottage, Bamburgh

Latest Review :

Sue Y on 04/08/2017

Beech Cottage is a very comfortable cottage which is well equipped and tastefully decorated. Our dog was welcome too with balls and poo bags provided! We loved cooking on the Aga and it warmed the whole house. We visited some fabulous beaches- Ross Sands, in particular, is beautiful and the views towards Holy Island are lovely. At the right time, you can see seals in abundance near the pylons there. Bamburgh Castle and the Grace Darling Museum are also both worth a visit.....and for miniature railway lovers, Ford and Etal villages just over the A1 are good to visit. The Mizen Head in Bamburgh serves a good dinner and our favourite pub by the sea is The Ship Inn at Low Newton. For book lovers, go to Barter Books in Alnwick.....dogs allowed and there is a good cafe there.

Blue Barn, Bamburgh

Latest Review :

Christopher F on 07/07/2017

The cottage was exactly as described and the service was impeccable throughout our negotiations with Cottages in Northumberland. The cottage was a well-executed barn conversion, which was well appointed and beautifully furnished. Everything that a guest could possibly want had been provided. We visited nearby National Trust owned Cragside House on a particularly wet day and this proved to be a great place to spend several hours. We drove across to the nearby Northumberland Coastal Route and enjoyed the spectacular coastal views, Bamburgh Castle and the delightful seaside towns. Holy Island was a place that all guests should visit, although it was a shame that Lindisfarne Castle was closed for extensive renovations during 2017.

The owner quickly dealt with two minor electrical problems that arose, and otherwise it was a trouble-free visit, with good meals at the Schooner (Indian) and Hope&Anchor (Italian), quizzes at the RedLion, good walks around the estuary, visits to Alnwick Castle Gardens and crazy golf, Berwick, and Amble, boat trips to Farnes, and around Coquet island, and many hours with the children at the playground in the village. So all in all, an excellent stay at an excellent property!

Bradacar Cottage, Seahouses

Latest Review :

Norma A on 08/07/2017

Bradacar is a comfortable, well equipped property. It has wonderful views across the bay from the bedroom window and is well located; just a few minuted from the centre of Seahouses or the eateries in Beadnell and Bamburgh. Try the Craster Arms and Saltwater Cafe in Beadnell and the Copper Kettle in Bamburgh. The Ship Inn in Seahouses is a lovely old fashioned pub with a lively atmosphere. Alnwick is an easy trip; besides the castle and gardens, Barter books is well worth a look. Lord Armstrongs' home at Cragside is interesting; good for a wet day but even better if you can walk round the extensive grounds in dry weather.

Mariette on 01/07/2017

This was our second visit to Lindisfarne and we were so pleased with this little cottage right in the centre of the village. The downstairs living area is extremely cosy with a log burner and comfortable reclining sofas. We needed the log burner as the weather was not the best unfortunately! This did not stop us enjoying our holiday as there are three lovely pubs within a few minutes walk from the cottage and a fairly good selection of DVDs for guests to watch on those rainy days. Bamburgh village and its castle are a short drive away and Alnwick is a bit further down. Barter Books in Alnwick is a must when the weather is not so good. If your a bookworm and like a good breakfast your in heaven! To sum up, this cottage is a home from home with a spacious living area, dining room, kitchen and comfortable beds. We hope to return again soon! Thank you.

We have just returned from a week away at Cobblestone Cottage in North Sunderland very near Seahouses. We have all thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. The cottage was of a very high standard, spotlessly clean with every home comfort needed including a well equipped kitchen. The owners seem to have thought of everything to aim to please and it did. We appreciated the welcome hamper in the kitchen and the toiletries in the master bedroom, must also mention the sweets in the pumpkin pots in the girls bedroom very nice too.The cottage is situated in a quiet, secluded cul-de-sac just near Seahouses within walking distance to the local amenities and the beautiful beach which our little dogs loved. If you like indian food The Spice House is definitely worth a visit. The girls went horse riding with Slate riding school which they enjoyed very much.We are definitely thinking of staying here again at Cobblestone cottage. Great location, close to the harbour, two local beaches and the main street. Useful having the Co-op and baker's round the corner. Swallow fish was in the next little street, where you could buy freshly smoked kippers - a must for breakfast! The cottage had all we needed and three bedrooms worked well for us. Parking for a larger car is tricky, we needed to use the central car park - but it wasn't expensive. The stove needs repairing, but the central heating was cosy enough without it. Saw puffins, dolphins and seals - the boat trip is a must. Lindisfarne lovely too.

Gable Cottage, Seahouses

Deborah A on 29/07/2017

Gable cottage is within a few minutes walk of the sea and it was a pleasure to walk out in the morning to see the sea. The beach stretching to Bamburgh is fantastic. We also enjoyed a boat trip to the Farne Islands. The cottage was well equipped and the beds comfortable - but I did miss having Netflix, as there were rainy days as is almost inevitable in the area. I loved the area as did the dog.

Just had a weeks family holiday (including the dog) at Grace cottage in Seahouses. What a fabulous place. The location is very central, with a 3 min walk into town where all the local amenities are. As a welcoming gift we were left a local mini hamper of some necessities- this was a fabulous idea - we visited the shop and bought more!!! Whilst in Northumberland, we visited Lindisfarne (twice) and walked the island, visited Pilgrims coffee shop (on the island) which also is a little gem. We walked from Seahouses across to Bamburgh and we walked the Dunstanburgh Castle from Craster to Embleton Bay. We've had a fab week and look forward to return soon ?? Everything we needed (and more).

We loved our stay at Grove House in Bamburgh. Beautifully furnished and plenty of space for our family of 6. It's in a perfect location a few minutes walk from the beach and close to lovely tea rooms and pubs. Bamburgh Castle is well worth a visit and looks stunning at the weekend when the floodlights are on. Fantastic beach, lovely clean sea and everywhere is very dog friendly. Highly recommend the house and location for a great week away.

Herring House, Seahouses

Latest Review :

Claire B on 22/08/2015

We had a lovely family stay at Herring House in Seahouses. This cottage provided a great base to explore Seahouses and the surrounding area. We were a family of 5 adults (2 x couples and 1 single) and 1 child. Bedrooms were spacious with suitable storage. Although not essential to a holiday, it was nice having access to free WiFi in the cottage. Another bonus was parking for 2 cars. Can recommend a trip to the Farne Islands. We went with Serenity (book by the harbour in Seahouses) on the 1.5hr Grey Seals Cruise and were lucky enough to see a Minke Whale along with seals, purpoises and loads of birds. The commentary was interesting and the crew were happy to answer questions and have a chat. We didn't eat at the Ship Inn in Seahouses but did spend a few evenings enjoying a pint there. Busy, bustling pub with great local ale on draft. Recommend a day at Alnwick Gardens..maybe break it up with lunch at the Treehouse Restaurant. This was our second visit to both and would go back again. Bamburgh Castle is also worth a visit. Park at the free council car park on the main road on the left at the bottom of the castle (you have to pay for the castle car park) and walk up to the castle itself. Buy your tickets for Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick Gardens from Seahouses Information Centre for discounts! If you visit other places, check with the Information Centre to see if they offer discounts off those too. The rest of the time we spent on Bamburgh beach which is absolutely gorgeous and definitely rates as one of my favourite places to be. Miles of sandy beach, rock pools and paddles in the sea (weren't brave enough to risk full submersion!)!

Lovely shops and great ice cream from Coxens! Also the discount vouchers were a good idea. The cottages were in a beautiful part of the country, and we really enjoyed a peaceful stay; so did the dog!

We really enjoyed our stay at Seashells. It is in a great location, walking distance to two beaches, shop, play park and the bus stop. The cottage was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the conservatory and our children loved playing in the enclosed back patio area. We had fun travelling on the local bus to Seahouses, Bamburgh and Craster. The soft play at Seahouses and a look round the RNLI station was good on the wet day. We plan to return next year. Having young children the washing machine and tumble dryer was invaluable.

Seaview had Sky which was on in the morning for my grandchildren. There was not anything that I thought was missing.

Simonside View, Rothbury

Latest Review :

John C on 08/07/2017

Simonside View, Rothbury is a very spacious, well equipped holiday home, with comfortable beds and chairs. The area is simply amazing with breathtaking views from the cottage in all weathers. Rothbury is an excellent, central base to visit Northumberland, being close to fantastic moors, hills and open countryside, yet also near miles of deserted sandy beaches. The roads are relatively straight and deserted. Must places to visit are Alnwick Gardens, Bamburgh Castle, Farne Islands, Druridge bay, Alnmouth, the Cheviots and the Breamish, Harthope and upper Coquet valleys. Housteads on Hadrians wall is also amazing. For views, peace, wildlife and tranquillity Simonside view is second to none. We cannot recommend highly enough and will hopefully be back soon.

Great location, lovely view. Nice touch with a welcoming box of shortbread, tea, coffee and wine - very thoughtful, thank you. The cottage was very clean throughout. Including all crockery, glasses, utensils etc. Plus there was enough equipment (hoover & mop etc) to keep it clean. The flat had everything you could possibly want. Would definitely recommend to others and we hope to come back to Northumberland again some day so I will come back to Cottages in Northumberland. May even try to go back to the same accommodation. he beach at Seahouses ticked all the boxes for us. For fish & chips in Seahouses go to Lewis's, they were delicious. The sausages and burgers from the butchers in Bamburgh lived up to their reputation! We went back for more to bring home.

St Cuthbert's is a perfect cosy getaway for a couple who enjoy walking and exploring the Northumbrian coast. We were able to walk parts of the Northumbrian Coastal Path during our week. We loved watching the sunset over Bamburgh castle from the benches overlooking the harbour every night. These are literally 2 seconds from the door of the cottage. Also as I had a fall later in the week the layout of the cottage was excellent, the bedroom and bathroom both being downstairs. So this might benefit other people who have mobility issues. There are 4 pubs a short walk away, the restaurants and cafes are also very near. The thoughtful card and chocolates delivered after my accident was really delightful! We would definitely book this cottage again.

Cottage was overall very comfortable. Location was perfect with plenty of amenities nearby - shops, restaurants. Bamburgh and Alnwick castles well worth a visit, very different to each other, the gardens at Alnwick were fabulous could have spent all day watching the fountains. Boat trip around Farne islands excellent. Good cycling network. We made a short visit to Howick gardens but this needs a good day and strong walking shoes to see it all but well worth a visit.

Stable Cottage, Guyzance Hall, Amble and Warkworth Area

Latest Review :

Rod H on 02/09/2016

: The evening sun plastered the rough hewn stone of the hall buildings whilst the shade from the surrounding lime, oak and poplar trees dappled the stonework with mysterious patterns of light that danced to the only sounds to be heard, that of the house martins marshalling the myriad of insects into their beaks to feed their ravenous young waiting in nests clinging under the eaves of the lodgings. Far in the distance a single line of smoke from a coal fire eased its way skyward into the brilliant blue of that summer's eve. Away across the golden fields of corn and wheat the sea sparkled like an azure jewel, merging somewhere afar with the crystal blue of the sky that, tonight, would render a firework show, that only nature can provide, in the form of a meteor shower amongst the inky blackness of these unpolluted skies. Away in the woods, almost too far and too distant to be anything but imagined came the cry of a fox that echoed and added mystery to that place, where so few people were seen that curtains and bathroom locks were not really necessary.

Sundial Cottage, Amble

Adele P on 12/08/2017

Sundial Cottage was in a great location in Amble, 1 minute off the high street and harbour which had a number of pubs and lovely restaurants. The 'cottage' (more like a 2bed house/fisherman cottage) had easy parking at the front of the house and a small courtyard at the back with amazing sunsets in the evening! The house was perfect for all our needs and we made ourselves at home, nice touches with sky tv, dvds, books, games. Amble: We ate at Jaspers one night which was lovely. Also we had a drink at the old boat house at the harbour which was lovely (the food looked lovely too) we had a meal at the wellwood which was also nice. The harbour is lovely to walk round and the pods are a different way to shop. The seafood centre was impressive to see how lobsters are grown. Also visit the 'mad jam' women some lovely and unique flavours! Sunday there is a market/car boot sale we were impressed with the fruit and veg and seafood stall (very reasonable) During our week we visited Alnwick castle (was very touristy) Alnwick gardens (amazing def recommend take a picnic for the day) Bamburgh castle and beach- the beach was lovely!! Alnmouth beach- another gem! We walked to Warkworth and visited a number of the pubs Whitehorse farm (Morpeth) was a great day out with young children and for a whole day out not that expensive. So much to visit and so easy to access from the house.

We stayed at The Piggery in Rowlands Gill for a long weekend. It was in a lovely location, with lots of walks on our doorstep. The owners were also very helpful and kept us up to date when the farmers were ploughing so we knew what was going on and apologised in advanced for any noise (however, there was none). Whilst there, we visited South Shields to go to the beach and Alnwick Gardens and Castle. Even though it was a bit pricey, I would thoroughly recommend the gardens as they are stunning.

Set in a particularly attractive corner of Northumberland. The cottage offers rural tranquility with all the comforts of home. Well-equipped and furnished. Lots to see and do in the surrounding area - we particularly enjoyed watching the wildlife: some of the birds, mammals and plants are now largely gone from other areas of England. Lots of enjoyable walking - bracing up on the moors, gentler at lower level. A particularly attractive one is Letah Wood just south of Hexham. History and culture abound - Blanchland goes back more than 850 years, Hexham more than 1300 years, not to mention Hadrian's Wall; the lead mining museum at Killhope Wheel is a fantastic testament to a once prominent industry in the area. Several excellent traditional pubs in the area which offer good value home-made food, and most of which are dog friendly.

Catharine F on 27/05/2016

There was everything we required from the seating, eating area, kitchen was excellently equipped and the bedroom comfortable as was the bed. All was very clean cannot fault anything, all the facilities were excellent as previously stated. Wagtail Cottage is a lovely cottage for 2 people. The complex the cottage is in is well set out and the parking easily accessed. The only downside we found was that it was very rural, not too much of a problem except the road into Thropton was full of potholes, after Thropton the road was a little better into Rothbury. A must see visit is Cragside( National Trust), wonderful setting, beautiful gardens, lakes and woodland. The house itself was very interesting and the history behind Lord Armstrong and his invention of hydro-electricity used in the house, the first of its kind. There is an interesting exhibition of the life and work of Lord Armstrong, just by the tea room. Food tasty as well. From the cottage we visited Alnwick Castle and Garden - well worth a visit, wonderfully designed gardens and water feature. Castle also fascinating along with the history. Lindisfarne is another place to visit and there are too many castles to mention, but if you like castles and the history behind there existence then Northumberland is the place to go!
