Brian R on 08/04/2017

You need to add an 'excellent' category. 'very good' doesn't cover it. Homely, comfortable, welcoming .. could go on. Particularly well impressed. Everything that was needed was there, we were very pleased with the cleanliness and comfort of beds and bedding. We were in Northumberland to attend a family wedding at Newton Hall. Although a Tyneside person myself, my wife and her parents were so impressed with the cottage and location. Full marks to everyone involved in maintaining it to such a comfortable standard. It was a relaxing home-from-home and the wedding occasion was totally stress-free. For my in-laws (in their 80's) to get on a boat to the Farne Islands says it all. Thank you.

3 Bamburgh Gate, Bamburgh

Latest Review :

Gillian Y on 14/04/2017

Clean, modern and well equipped. Everything spotless. There was nothing we needed which we couldn't find. 3 Bamburgh Gate is lovely. A great position for Bamburgh, Lucker and Seahouses. Quiet position even though it is close to A1, but this makes the cottage easy to find. We have a dog and the beaches at Bamburgh were fantastic, open space, clean and virtually empty. We ate out in Lucker (The Apple Core), and at Seahouses ( Elan Pizzeria and The Spice Lounge (Indian) and could recommend them all. The restaurant at Purdey Lodge was recommended but we didn't get there on this occasion - will definitely try next time. All in all good value for money in a convenient and well equipped cottage. Well worth a visit.

Dean C on 17/03/2017

Just got back from a wonderful midweek family break at 3 Piers Maltings. Great location, right on the waterfront. Excellent amenities and contemporary setting. Felt very relaxed and enjoyed our stay just within the proximity of the cottage. However, it is in easy walking distance of the town and had two excellent meals at the Queens Head and Audrela. It's just a short drive to the lovely beach of Cockleburn, but also some good beach walks nearby. It is on three stories, but we enjoyed the fact the living area is on the top floor as it added to the great aspect views. Will definitely be back - missing it already.

Only a short walk from friendly Bamburgh and just over from the dunes and the beach, this cottage is in the ideal location to enjoy the Northumbrian coast. It's quiet without being isolated, easy to access from the A1, with a bus stopping outside to get to Seahouses. The cottage itself is beautifully maintained, with a double bed and a twin bedroom, immaculately clean and with a great shower/bath with lots of hot water. We had a lovely stay!

We loved it here, a very warm and welcoming cottage. Welcome basket fantastic and a lovely touch with our chalkboard message too. 5 adults and two dogs had an amazing stay. Stunning views from gorgeous country kitchen. Comfortable and cosy lounge with warming log burner which was the evening hub with a glass of prosecco/wine, what's not to love. Games room was put to use with family challenges and laughs all round. Bedrooms and bathrooms had a hotel feel with excellent layout for our party. We have booked for 2018 already!

Great location and very well equipped. We were delighted with the cottage and so pleased that the owner allowed dogs to stay. The Beach House is in a fantastic location, it is beautifully furnished and is a true home from home. We thoroughly enjoyed walking our two dogs on the beach, which was only a matter of minutes away. Beachcombers Retreat, Nr. Amble and Warkworth

Latest Review :

Michelle J on 22/04/2017

Beachcomber's retreat is a beautifully kept house with excellent facilities. The home owners are very welcoming and friendly. We loved waking up every morning to a sea view and having a beach on our door step. Amble is about a 45 minute walk with 2 small children and a dog. Low Hauxley is an excellent base to explore the beautiful Northumberland coast or just a lovely place to relax. We rode broomsticks at Alnwick castle. Visited Holy Island, Bamburgh, Warkworth, Alnmouth and Amble. We really enjoyed our Puffin Cruise, (children were allowed in the wheel house, which they loved). Spurreli's ice cream, shopping at the pods, fish and chips were great in Amble. My husband enjoyed the real ale at the Mason's Arms in Amble. The food and real ale were excellent in the Red Lion in Alnmouth. Warkworth has some lovely little shops and Fenwick gallery has lovely art and jewellery. All the beaches are lovely and clean and relatively deserted. The North East welcome was brilliant, everyone was friendly. I would recommend this house to anyone, we've stayed in many holiday lets over the years and this one was superb. Excellent, dogs can stay in this house, but you couldn't tell. Everything we needed was there and added luxury on demand movies from sky And wi fi. Would definitely want to stay here again, due to the beautiful house in a peaceful location.

Border cottage was outstanding. This was our second visit to Alnmouth as we first encountered it last October. It's a fantastic village, with just enough restaurants and shops to be self contained. The restaurants were great, especially Bistro 23 and the Italian, the fish and chips from the Hope and Anchor are without doubt the best I've had in a long time. We have 2 young girls (4 and 5), the beach, rock pools and playground, gave them hours of entertainment. We will definitely be returning to boarder cottage in Alnmouth.

Bridge End Cottage, Rothbury

Latest Review :

Mark Whitley, The Countryman magazine, March 2017 on 31/03/2017

Bridge End Cottage has been tastefully and expertly refurbished, with all mod cons, but retaining some of the original features such as open fireplace and exposed stone walls - all credit to the owners for doing such a lovely job. Alwinton is a lovely village in Upper Coquetdale, with a village pub The Rose & Thistle. The peace and quiet makes for a restful stay. The village has been designated a Dark Sky Discovery Site, as the lack of light pollution here makes it perfect for stargazing. The cottage is the ideal base from which to explore Upper Coquetdale, the Cheviot Hills and the Northumberland National Park. The area is perfect for walking, and just getting out into the lovely Northumbrian countryside; there are walks from the doorstep, and the owners have provided lots of useful information about things to do and places to visit, including guidebooks and OS maps. All in all, a lovely holiday cottage, in beautiful countryside. 5*

Good layout and presented very well. Ample facilities, everything you could want had been thought of. We've visited Northumbria at least once a year for the past 20 years and stayed in lots of different cottages, but the truly warm welcome you feel as soon as you enter Clashope really stands out. The location and style of the cottage could themselves be enough to make you want to return, but the facilities and extra touches made a real difference. We hope to be back again and had a wonderful holiday. Thank you.

Coastguard Watch, Seahouses

Latest Review :

Paul H on 22/04/2017

Superb position Superb cottage. Our 3rd stay always very clean. The cottage has everything you could want even some brolley's just in case of bad weather. Has a good TV but could not tell you if it worked as the view out of the window is just fantastic. If you want to stay in Seahouses This is a must. Would and have recommended this cottage. Coastguard watch is a fantastic cottage with probably the best view in Seahouses, overlooking the harbour, Farne Islands, Bamburgh castle, the beach and even Holy Island. You do not need to go anywhere with that view, but if you do the walk to Bamburgh on the beach 3 miles is lovely with a fantastic sandwich shop in the village. Beadnell 1 mile the other direction is also a lovely walk along the. Each with our local favourite the Craster Arms there, the fish is huge and the pie is also superb, best to try and book at busy times. We also had a lovely walk to Newton by the Sea and eat at the Joiners Arms, wow the food is amazing goats cheese and portobello mushroom starter and sea bream main could not fault food or service good choice of drinks on offer as well. Another good walk is to Craster from Seahouses past Dunstanburgh castle although a lengthy round trip of about 14 miles a lot of flat walking on beach and grass makes it seem a lot less.

We have just returned from a week away at Cobblestone Cottage in North Sunderland very near Seahouses. We have all thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. The cottage was of a very high standard, spotlessly clean with every home comfort needed including a well equipped kitchen. The owners seem to have thought of everything to aim to please and it did. We appreciated the welcome hamper in the kitchen and the toiletries in the master bedroom, must also mention the sweets in the pumpkin pots in the girls bedroom very nice too.The cottage is situated in a quiet, secluded cul-de-sac just near Seahouses within walking distance to the local amenities and the beautiful beach which our little dogs loved. If you like indian food The Spice House is definitely worth a visit. The girls went horse riding with Slate riding school which they enjoyed very much.We are definitely thinking of staying here again at Cobblestone cottage. Its our first time in Northumberland and we all loved it.

: Ford Cottage is a beautiful cottage to stay in and based in a beautiful area. The owners clearly take pride in their property and the thought that has gone into preparing it is immediately apparent. We visited at Christmas time and the owners put much effort into ensuring we had a magical Christmas. There is heaps to do right on the doorstep, and if you are prepared to travel there is something to see in every direction. Close to Durham, Newcastle and Sunderland, and only a quick drive north and you are in Northumberland. Equally for those tho like peace and quiet there are peaceful walks with stunning views to be found everywhere. The Co Durham coast is beautiful and less than an hour away. I highly recommend this area, and the cottage. Additionally, for well-behaved dog owners, a cottage of this standard is a rare treat. I cannot wait to get back again. Ford Cottage was perfect, and the customer service received through your company was good.

Beautifully presented, well equipped and good wifi and Netflix were an added bonus. We found it in excellent condition. Kitchen, bathroom and beds were all clean and fresh. We were well looked after and really appreciated the prosseco and chocolates left for us. Nice touch! We had a very comfortable stay in Gable cottage. The cottage is beautifully refurbished and well equipped for a family. After a busy day out and about we enjoyed returning to this comfortable home. We loved walking and playing along St Aiden's and Alnmouth beaches and running along the coast to Beadnell. Visiting the castles at Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh, Walkworth and Alnwick. Cragside was a great day out and the local Fish and Chips and kippers were excellent. All in all a great holiday and we hope to be back.

The cottage is beautifully situated and very well equipped for a large group with varying needs. The cottage was warm and the welcome-pack generous. Overall the cottage and situation exceeded our expectations. Craster itself is small but characterful and ideally placed for exploration to nearby Alnwick and the wonderful coastline north and south. The 30' walk immediately out of the cottage along the shore to Dunstanburgh Castle provides an exhilarating start to your holiday.

Herring House, Seahouses

We had a lovely family stay at Herring House in Seahouses. This cottage provided a great base to explore Seahouses and the surrounding area. We were a family of 5 adults (2 x couples and 1 single) and 1 child. Bedrooms were spacious with suitable storage. Although not essential to a holiday, it was nice having access to free WiFi in the cottage. Another bonus was parking for 2 cars. Can recommend a trip to the Farne Islands. We went with Serenity (book by the harbour in Seahouses) on the 1.5hr Grey Seals Cruise and were lucky enough to see a Minke Whale along with seals, purpoises and loads of birds. The commentary was interesting and the crew were happy to answer questions and have a chat. We didn't eat at the Ship Inn in Seahouses but did spend a few evenings enjoying a pint there. Busy, bustling pub with great local ale on draft. Recommend a day at Alnwick Gardens..maybe break it up with lunch at the Treehouse Restaurant. This was our second visit to both and would go back again. Bamburgh Castle is also worth a visit. Park at the free council car park on the main road on the left at the bottom of the castle (you have to pay for the castle car park) and walk up to the castle itself. Buy your tickets for Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick Gardens from Seahouses Information Centre for discounts! If you visit other places, check with the Information Centre to see if they offer discounts off those too. The rest of the time we spent on Bamburgh beach which is absolutely gorgeous and definitely rates as one of my favourite places to be. Miles of sandy beach, rock pools and paddles in the sea (weren't brave enough to risk full submersion!)!

What a fantastic Cottage! We stayed for a week over the Easter Bank Holidays and it was absolute bliss. The cottage has absolutely everything you will need, a real home from home. The owners have furnished it to a high standard and I was really pleased to find that it had Wi-Fi. There is a fantastic sun trap decked area to the back of the cottage to sit and chill on an evening. A 2 minute walk to the beautiful beach and a 5 minute walk to the local Co-op which for the Easter holidays was really well stocked, and to the local pub The Craster Arms. I would definitely recommend this cottage for a lovely break and will be returning. Perfection.

We've just returned from a short break at this lovely property. Seascape has been modernised and upgraded sympathetically taking into consideration its surroundings - loads of little seaside themed pictures and ornaments etc. There were 3 of us in our party and it was a perfect size with plenty of room. The slippers and bathrobes were a nice touch and it was very much a ' home from home'. The location of Seascape is ideal literally a few minutes walk from the harbour. There is a great view from the living room overlooking Bamburgh Castle. There are several pubs within a 30 second walk. We had several nice meals in Seahouses. I'd recommend The Indian Brasserie and Ensieme Italian. If you have kids in tow a visit to Alnwick Castle is a must . Our daughter loved the broomstick training and Jester show. There was a bird of prey show on as well so spent the full day there. Overall we had a great time and Seahouses, whilst not as scenic as its neighbouring villages is a central location to base yourself and explore the region. Highly recommended!!

Shepherd's Hut, Winlaton Mill, Newcastle upon Tyne

Latest Review :

Alison on 15/08/2016

The Shepherd's Hut was just perfect for the 5 of us (my husband and me, our 2 boys and dog). Quirky, rustic and beautifully made, the Hut felt like a secret retreat. Just the right amount of space around us to make it feel like we were tucked away, but so close to so many brilliant things to visit. Gibside was lovely, and we stayed until late to eat the freshly baked pizzas under fairy lights. Beamish, Hadrian's Wall, National Trust's Wallington House and the Derwent Water walks were all great. Pretty good meal out at the Red Kite too. Brilliant 3 nights away.

Great location, lovely view. Nice touch with a welcoming box of shortbread, tea, coffee and wine - very thoughtful, thank you. The cottage was very clean throughout. Including all crockery, glasses, utensils etc. Plus there was enough equipment (hoover & mop etc) to keep it clean. The flat had everything you could possibly want. Would definitely recommend to others and we hope to come back to Northumberland again some day so I will come back to Cottages in Northumberland. May even try to go back to the same accommodation. he beach at Seahouses ticked all the boxes for us. For fish & chips in Seahouses go to Lewis's, they were delicious. The sausages and burgers from the butchers in Bamburgh lived up to their reputation! We went back for more to bring home.

Homely and welcoming. Well equipped and such a fab location. We have stayed 3 times and always look forward to returning. Always clean and fresh on arrival. All you need for a comfortable self catering stay. Love the welcome brew making stuff and with a tube of shortbread this time. Cottages are as described so no nasty surprises. Easy to contact the company if there are any issues. A beautiful cottage for 2 people plus dogs that would suit anyone who is fascinated by harbour's, the sea, beaches, boats, enjoys chatting with friendly people, eating lovely locally caught sea food and people watching.

Stable Cottage, Guyzance Hall, Amble and Warkworth Area

Latest Review :

Rod H on 02/09/2016

: The evening sun plastered the rough hewn stone of the hall buildings whilst the shade from the surrounding lime, oak and poplar trees dappled the stonework with mysterious patterns of light that danced to the only sounds to be heard, that of the house martins marshalling the myriad of insects into their beaks to feed their ravenous young waiting in nests clinging under the eaves of the lodgings. Far in the distance a single line of smoke from a coal fire eased its way skyward into the brilliant blue of that summer's eve. Away across the golden fields of corn and wheat the sea sparkled like an azure jewel, merging somewhere afar with the crystal blue of the sky that, tonight, would render a firework show, that only nature can provide, in the form of a meteor shower amongst the inky blackness of these unpolluted skies. Away in the woods, almost too far and too distant to be anything but imagined came the cry of a fox that echoed and added mystery to that place, where so few people were seen that curtains and bathroom locks were not really necessary.

The Fisherman's Cottage is warm and welcoming, everything very clean and the cottage is very well appointed. We were actually visiting parents who don't have room to accommodate us, so apart from visiting Number Four Gallery in Eyemouth/St. Abbs that we discovered on our last visit (and would recommend), we were not there as tourists. We also visited Holy Island on a previous visit and can highly recommend that too.

Lots of space and exactly how it was described online. We had a great time, a lovely area and lots to do even in the changeable weather of February. We were two families of 4. There was plenty in the area to keep the kids and adults happy with seal watching, castle exploring and beech walks. The view from the upstairs living room was beautiful. Also there is more than enough space in the house to mean we were not under each other feet.

Space, furnishings and equipment all first class and all facilities well maintained. Although only a 20 minute walk from the village (and excellent pub!) the cottage felt very secluded. Fantastic 'dark sky' star gazing, lots of interesting country roads to drive around locally. Hexham, the nearest town, is really nice with interesting historical sites and all the facilities - including swimming pool - that you might need. The drive to Hexham, on a winding road, takes about 30 minutes. Speaking of driving, park and ride for Durham. Car parking in the city is a nightmare! Beamish definitely worth a visit although its expensive so make a day of it.

Wagtail Cottage, Rothbury, Northumberland

Latest Review :

Catharine F on 27/05/2016

There was everything we required from the seating, eating area, kitchen was excellently equipped and the bedroom comfortable as was the bed. All was very clean cannot fault anything, all the facilities were excellent as previously stated. Wagtail Cottage is a lovely cottage for 2 people. The complex the cottage is in is well set out and the parking easily accessed. The only downside we found was that it was very rural, not too much of a problem except the road into Thropton was full of potholes, after Thropton the road was a little better into Rothbury. A must see visit is Cragside( National Trust), wonderful setting, beautiful gardens, lakes and woodland. The house itself was very interesting and the history behind Lord Armstrong and his invention of hydro-electricity used in the house, the first of its kind. There is an interesting exhibition of the life and work of Lord Armstrong, just by the tea room. Food tasty as well. From the cottage we visited Alnwick Castle and Garden - well worth a visit, wonderfully designed gardens and water feature. Castle also fascinating along with the history. Lindisfarne is another place to visit and there are too many castles to mention, but if you like castles and the history behind there existence then Northumberland is the place to go!

There is a reasonably good bus service from the village of Embleton of which we made great use.You could go north or south, then have a wonderful walk, frequenting wonderful 'dog friendly' pubs, then get bus back. Bamburgh has very 'dog friendly' pub/hotels, notably the Lord Carew and The Victoria Hotel. Alnmouth worth a visit. Closer to home,Craster, High Norton, Low Norton. In short, it's all there for you to discover. Not forgetting the 'on the doorstop' Greys Inn, very friendly, good food, good beer, dog friendly. The property is lovely and warm and a treat to come back to after some long days exploring the beautiful countryside and towns. ( Wallington Hall, Farne Islands, Lindisfarne, Alnwick and Barter Books, Dunstanburgh castle.) The welcome pack and fresh flowers were very much appreciated and our Cocker Spaniel, loved the treats left for him too.
