Exiting the comfort of No2 Appletree, apartment provides for some serious sea views when out walking. Of which particular places to visit is Craster and Upper/Lower Newton on Sea. Beadnell itself is, for want of a better expression; Cosy!! Full of vista, various expressions of sea eroded rock and coast line, a really relaxing retreat complimented by Two worthy eateries and the Salt Cafe. All in easy walking.

Susan G on 29/09/2017

Even though the weather hasn't been great this week, it didn't stop us from thoroughly enjoying our holiday with our two Labradors. We have done our favourite walk to Football Hole more than once and played with the dogs in the sea. One day it was misty on the coast so we did a lovely walk in Thrunton Woods. The colours of Autumn were beautiful and the smell of pine was particularly strong as they were felling trees. After we drove into Rothbury which is very pretty, and had some lunch. You can walk along the river bank here - it is another lovely walk. Good food is always high on our agenda when visiting this area. We have found some great places to eat. We especially love The Ship at Low Newton, The Potted Lobster at Bamburgh and the Bistro at St Aidens Hotel in Seahouses .

Beech Cottage, Bamburgh

Latest Review :

Sue Y on 04/08/2017

Beech Cottage is a very comfortable cottage which is well equipped and tastefully decorated. Our dog was welcome too with balls and poo bags provided! We loved cooking on the Aga and it warmed the whole house. We visited some fabulous beaches- Ross Sands, in particular, is beautiful and the views towards Holy Island are lovely. At the right time, you can see seals in abundance near the pylons there. Bamburgh Castle and the Grace Darling Museum are also both worth a visit.....and for miniature railway lovers, Ford and Etal villages just over the A1 are good to visit. The Mizen Head in Bamburgh serves a good dinner and our favourite pub by the sea is The Ship Inn at Low Newton. For book lovers, go to Barter Books in Alnwick.....dogs allowed and there is a good cafe there.

Alnmouth was a great base with shops, pubs and restaurants within an easy walk and all the amenities of Alnwick a short drive away. The beach at Alnmouth is lovely and we were able to take advantage of the great weather during our stay and spend a lot of time on the sand. Britannia House, Holy Island

Latest Review :

Mariette on 01/07/2017

This was our second visit to Lindisfarne and we were so pleased with this little cottage right in the centre of the village. The downstairs living area is extremely cosy with a log burner and comfortable reclining sofas. We needed the log burner as the weather was not the best unfortunately! This did not stop us enjoying our holiday as there are three lovely pubs within a few minutes walk from the cottage and a fairly good selection of DVDs for guests to watch on those rainy days. Bamburgh village and its castle are a short drive away and Alnwick is a bit further down. Barter Books in Alnwick is a must when the weather is not so good. If your a bookworm and like a good breakfast your in heaven! To sum up, this cottage is a home from home with a spacious living area, dining room, kitchen and comfortable beds. We hope to return again soon! Thank you.

We have just returned from a week away at Cobblestone Cottage in North Sunderland very near Seahouses. We have all thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. The cottage was of a very high standard, spotlessly clean with every home comfort needed including a well equipped kitchen. The owners seem to have thought of everything to aim to please and it did. We appreciated the welcome hamper in the kitchen and the toiletries in the master bedroom, must also mention the sweets in the pumpkin pots in the girls bedroom very nice too.The cottage is situated in a quiet, secluded cul-de-sac just near Seahouses within walking distance to the local amenities and the beautiful beach which our little dogs loved. If you like indian food The Spice House is definitely worth a visit. The girls went horse riding with Slate riding school which they enjoyed very much.We are definitely thinking of staying here again at Cobblestone cottage. Its our first time in Northumberland and we all loved it.

Coble Cottage was very spacious and well equipped. The heating was effective and it was easy to get comfortable. The cottage is very close to local shops including a Co-op to get provisions. Pubs and restaurants are very close too. Being only a couple of minutes walk from the sea-front with a long prom was an added bonus. The information folder was very comprehensive and included details of some lovely walks. There are several National Trust properties nearby which we enjoyed, in particular Cragside (magnificent grounds with lots of well sign-posted trails), Wallington and Seaton Delaval. The coastal walk at Craster was beautiful and the Shoreline Cafe there is recommended. Coble Cottage is a great base from which to explore the local area. Highly recommended.

We have had a lovely week here! Loads of places to visit - enjoyed days out at Beamish (fantastic but huge. It took 2 days to see it all), also been to Hexham, Whitley Bay and Gibside to see the Wind in the Willows. The field at the back is great for cricket and football and a nice walk by the other side of the river. Thanks for the chocolate cake - it was delicious. Really nice little touches in the cottage for the Children, toys, bedding, books etc - really made them feel welcome. Hope to be back someday.

Grove House is a luxurious house in a lovely position in the centre of the village, with some of the windows looking up to the domineering castle. The house is ideal for a relaxing family holiday and all our four adult children enjoyed the spacious but cosy rooms to chill out in. The house is really well equipped and provides space for everyone to do their own thing, and has a super kitchen, dining room, and lounge to get together in the evenings. I'm sure we'll be back!

This was our third visit to the house - the location is superb, looking straight out over Craster Harbour; it is very comfortable and well-furnished, but not so smart you feel scared to breathe; the kitchen is well-equipped.; it is big enough to house us as a group of friends. Herring House, Seahouses

Latest Review :

Claire B on 22/08/2015

We had a lovely family stay at Herring House in Seahouses. This cottage provided a great base to explore Seahouses and the surrounding area. We were a family of 5 adults (2 x couples and 1 single) and 1 child. Bedrooms were spacious with suitable storage. Although not essential to a holiday, it was nice having access to free WiFi in the cottage. Another bonus was parking for 2 cars. Can recommend a trip to the Farne Islands. We went with Serenity (book by the harbour in Seahouses) on the 1.5hr Grey Seals Cruise and were lucky enough to see a Minke Whale along with seals, purpoises and loads of birds. The commentary was interesting and the crew were happy to answer questions and have a chat. We didn't eat at the Ship Inn in Seahouses but did spend a few evenings enjoying a pint there. Busy, bustling pub with great local ale on draft. Recommend a day at Alnwick Gardens..maybe break it up with lunch at the Treehouse Restaurant. This was our second visit to both and would go back again. Bamburgh Castle is also worth a visit. Park at the free council car park on the main road on the left at the bottom of the castle (you have to pay for the castle car park) and walk up to the castle itself. Buy your tickets for Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick Gardens from Seahouses Information Centre for discounts! If you visit other places, check with the Information Centre to see if they offer discounts off those too. The rest of the time we spent on Bamburgh beach which is absolutely gorgeous and definitely rates as one of my favourite places to be. Miles of sandy beach, rock pools and paddles in the sea (weren't brave enough to risk full submersion!)!

Herring Master is a smart property, with a large parking space and large rooms. Great location just around the corner from the harbour. Off -road parking is a huge bonus on the very narrow lanes of Seahouses. Our favourite activities here are: Walking from Craster to Dunstanburgh then eating an Auctermuchtie (hot bacon and haggis roll)from the food van in the ca rpark. Crabbing at Beadnell harbour. A visit to Embleton beach. Boat trip to the Farnes. Pub quizzes in the pubs around the corner, in the Schooner Inn on Wednesday night and the Black Swan on Thursday night. Pizza at Elan restaurant.

Our third visit to Seahouses and first to Little Cottage. A dear Little Cottage well equipped for two adults and their dog. We really enjoyed being able to walk from the front door to Bamburgh for lunch in The Bamburgh Castle Inn or The Victoria Hotel. Both have excellent food and in The Victoria Hotel, your dog is very welcome indoors. We also walked to Beadnell and sat at the quay. There are no cafe's in Beadnell, but the caravan site sells teas/coffee/cakes/sandwiches. We revisited the market town of Amble, Morpeth and Alnwick. All very dog friendly. A trip up to Coldstream on the border with Scotland was a change in scenery and a great walk on a large farm estate just outside of Coldstream. All in all, a wonderful holiday. Also the discount vouchers were a good idea. The cottages were in a beautiful part of the country, and we really enjoyed a peaceful stay; so did the dog!

This was our first family break to Northumberland and Simonside View provided the best base for us. Excellent access to the village for bakery, shops and riverwalks. But perfectly placed to make the driving to the coast, lindisfarne, hadrians wall and Kielder easy and not too long for the kids! Simonside has everything you'll need - clean and well maintained, with music, good TV, WiFi and some board games/chess. The kitchen is well equipped and has all the extra bits that you don't think about packing - foil, cling film etc... This is a great base for your holiday and when we come back to northumberland we'll be checking here again!

Great location, lovely view. Nice touch with a welcoming box of shortbread, tea, coffee and wine - very thoughtful, thank you. The cottage was very clean throughout. Including all crockery, glasses, utensils etc. Plus there was enough equipment (hoover & mop etc) to keep it clean. The flat had everything you could possibly want. Would definitely recommend to others and we hope to come back to Northumberland again some day so I will come back to Cottages in Northumberland. May even try to go back to the same accommodation. he beach at Seahouses ticked all the boxes for us. For fish & chips in Seahouses go to Lewis's, they were delicious. The sausages and burgers from the butchers in Bamburgh lived up to their reputation! We went back for more to bring home.

Stable Cottage, Guyzance Hall, Amble and Warkworth Area

Latest Review :

Rod H on 02/09/2016

: The evening sun plastered the rough hewn stone of the hall buildings whilst the shade from the surrounding lime, oak and poplar trees dappled the stonework with mysterious patterns of light that danced to the only sounds to be heard, that of the house martins marshalling the myriad of insects into their beaks to feed their ravenous young waiting in nests clinging under the eaves of the lodgings. Far in the distance a single line of smoke from a coal fire eased its way skyward into the brilliant blue of that summer's eve. Away across the golden fields of corn and wheat the sea sparkled like an azure jewel, merging somewhere afar with the crystal blue of the sky that, tonight, would render a firework show, that only nature can provide, in the form of a meteor shower amongst the inky blackness of these unpolluted skies. Away in the woods, almost too far and too distant to be anything but imagined came the cry of a fox that echoed and added mystery to that place, where so few people were seen that curtains and bathroom locks were not really necessary.

Rothbury had a lot of places nearby to explore including the river walk that extended to the back gate of Criagside Estate. We enjoyed visiting the historical sites of Craigside House and Gardens, Brinkburn Priory, Warkworth Castle and Hermitage, Alnwick, Bamburgh Village and Castle as well as walks on Bamburgh beach and a hike to Linhope Spout. Also had a wonderful pamper spa day at Doxford Hall Hotel that included afternoon tea.

Latest Review :

Martin W on 30/09/2017

We enjoyed our stay at the Bothy. It is cosy and perfect for a couple. The location is great as close to Alnwick and the coast, and was within easy reach of all the places we wanted to visit. Facilities were good, everything worked and the heating was very good. The things that stood out for me for this cottage were the small things that made a stay more comfortable or unusual, e.g. underfloor heating in the shower room, map wall in the the dining area, wooden coasters, driftwood coat rack, the wonderful local photography (which we liked so much we went and bought three in Warkworth!) As the property is surrounded by other properties there's no great view, but the courtyard garden is pleasant, and it's an easy few minutes' drive to the lovely beach. There is a useful convenience store in the village, and we used supermarkets in nearby Alnwick. We ate twice at the Fishing Boat Inn at Boulmer and the food was great (as was the superb sweeping sea view). We visited Alnwick Garden, Barter Books (great food there too!), Cragside, Wallington, Howick Gardens, Bamburgh and Holy Island (castle closed currently), Amble, Alnmouth, Warkworth and Craster, Seaton Delaval. No need to bring: hairdryer, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, hand soap for bathroom.

The bath is lovely and deep to help soak away the aches after a long day walking and the shower gave us a great kick start to the morning. All our family needs were covered, the owners have thought of everything. The pub is 2 mins walk, very friendly and welcoming even tho we had two dogs and a small baby! Highly recommended. The cottages and surrounds are built to a high standard, which will surely pay dividends in satisfied customers and repeat bookings. We can't remember staying in a better property. We stayed in Stables 1 which was perfect for our needs, welcoming and warm. My wife is from Consett, so we are very familiar with the area, and being huge fans of the nearby Knitsley Farm Shop the location couldn't have been better. We had good weather as it happened, but I'd imagine even in winter the cottages would be sheltered from the wind, and quite cosy. We can't think of a better cottage that we've visited. The owners have invested more than most in the cottages and surrounds, which provided us with a 1st class stay. We can't remember staying in a better property.

Set in a particularly attractive corner of Northumberland. The cottage offers rural tranquility with all the comforts of home. Well-equipped and furnished. Lots to see and do in the surrounding area - we particularly enjoyed watching the wildlife: some of the birds, mammals and plants are now largely gone from other areas of England. Lots of enjoyable walking - bracing up on the moors, gentler at lower level. A particularly attractive one is Letah Wood just south of Hexham. History and culture abound - Blanchland goes back more than 850 years, Hexham more than 1300 years, not to mention Hadrian's Wall; the lead mining museum at Killhope Wheel is a fantastic testament to a once prominent industry in the area. Several excellent traditional pubs in the area which offer good value home-made food, and most of which are dog friendly.

Catharine F on 27/05/2016

There was everything we required from the seating, eating area, kitchen was excellently equipped and the bedroom comfortable as was the bed. All was very clean cannot fault anything, all the facilities were excellent as previously stated. Wagtail Cottage is a lovely cottage for 2 people. The complex the cottage is in is well set out and the parking easily accessed. The only downside we found was that it was very rural, not too much of a problem except the road into Thropton was full of potholes, after Thropton the road was a little better into Rothbury. A must see visit is Cragside( National Trust), wonderful setting, beautiful gardens, lakes and woodland. The house itself was very interesting and the history behind Lord Armstrong and his invention of hydro-electricity used in the house, the first of its kind. There is an interesting exhibition of the life and work of Lord Armstrong, just by the tea room. Food tasty as well. From the cottage we visited Alnwick Castle and Garden - well worth a visit, wonderfully designed gardens and water feature. Castle also fascinating along with the history. Lindisfarne is another place to visit and there are too many castles to mention, but if you like castles and the history behind there existence then Northumberland is the place to go!
