1 Bamburgh Gate, Bamburgh

Latest Review :

John C on 16/09/2016

Everything was clean, in order and as described, for a week's break, there was nothing that we needed that wasn't there. The area is very nice and is a perfect base, it is 4.5 miles outside Bamburgh just off the A1 which wasn't a problem. When the lights are out and the sky is clear the stars are amazing. The beaches are beautiful to walk along and the bird life is spectacular to see. More castles than you can wave a stick at and massively under commercialised.

Clean, wonderful location and well equipped. Liked the additional extras e.g. little bottles of chilled bubbly & ready made-up log burner (though didn't need to use because of lovely weather!) Beautiful cottage in great location. Bamburgh beach a favourite, great for dog walking. Can highly recommend local pub The White Swan - amazing food.

We always enjoy our holiday here. The cottage has the best position in the whole of Northumberland! The cottage itself wants for nothing- beautifully furnished. Meals at The Ship are a must-you always get a warm welcome. Some of our favourite walks are to Football Hole, of course the walk to Craster from Low Newton and along the beach at Sugar Sands to Boulmer stopping for lunch at the pub there. Our two dogs also like a trip to Thrunton Woods which is particularly good if the weather is misty on the coast or cold and showery.

Such a lovely welcome with chocolate cake and pint of milk. The cottage is cosy, very comfortable, and has everything you could possibly need for a holiday. The garden was great for our dog - very secure - and the garden furniture made it a pleasure to sit out and enjoy the sun. The location is great for Bamburgh beach, and for visits to Lindisfarne, Craster, Low Newton, Seahouses and many more local attractions. Perfect for us with the dog, and we found lots of pubs that are dog friendly. We will definitely be coming back!

Beach Retreat, Low Newton

Latest Review :

Susan G on 17/09/2016

Lovely to come back to such a beautiful place! Revisited all our favourite walks - from the cottage to Football Hole, Sugar Sands to Boulmer, Thrunton Woods and Howick to Craster stopping for lunch at The Jolly Fisherman. Tried out The Apple Inn and The Apple Core at Lucker after one of your holidaymakers gave them a good review. The food at these two establishments was very disappointing to say the least. The Apple Core is supposed to specialise in Pizzas and Crepes. The Pizzas were average and the Crepes were not freshly made but used ready made ones! Don't go there! Instead go for Sunday lunch at Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel in Embleton, evening meals at Greys Inn at Embleton and The Ship at Low Newton. These are my favourite places to eat. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. When it was foggy and misty on Wednesday we went in the pool and spa area at The Ocean Club. This is a lovely treat and a great place to go. The cafe in The Ocean Club is great - the food is excellent. Hated to come home - will be back next April - can't wait!

Belford Townhouse, Bamburgh

Latest Review :

Kate R on 09/09/2016

Lovely decor and the sitting room and bedrooms were great. The Belford Townhouse stands in the market square opposite the Blue Bell Inn - an old coaching stop. Its light and airy rooms overlook the market cross and the church steps. It's extremely convenient for Lindisfarne and Bamburgh and just a mile off the A1 so easy to reach. Our visit was brief but we'd recommend The White Swan in Warenford for meals and the Blue Bell Inn for their folk night (very skilled and gentle), good beers and satisfying bar food. Lindisfarne is magical of course - but we'd advise getting across as soon as the causeway opens (not difficult when you're so near to begin with) and getting straight on with what you want to see - the Castle and the Priory get very busy. We had a great lunch at The Pilgrim Cafe there then walked the beaches. The beach at Bamburgh (with the castle lowering behind) is unbelievably clean and beautiful and our whippet loved the sand beneath his paws, as did many, many other dogs - no restrictions here.

Border Cottage, Alnmouth

Latest Review :

Hazel A on 20/08/2016

Border Cottage Alnmouth is the perfect base for exploring some of Northumberland's fabulous beaches, castles and villages. The cottage is a five minute walk from a fabulous sandy beach and each of the bedrooms has a seaview. The beds and bedding are wonderfully comfortable. Three large sofas in the lounge make relaxing easy. There is a wooden bench outside which enjoys the morning sun and is a wonderful place to sit and have a quiet read. We enjoyed great walks to Dunstanburgh Castle, around Alnwick (the gardens are well worth a visit) Craster to Howick (ending with a cream tea at Howick Hall) and Lindisfarne on Holy Island (the Gertrude Jekyll garden is a jewellery box of colour in this environment). We will return :)

Apparently the fisherman's cottage was sympathetically renovated a few years ago - What a gem! All to a very high standard. Wooden floors, lovely large living area which contained a wood burner; wi-fi available, (but unfortunately no mobile phone signal inside the house - though I expect that depends on which contract the guest has). Master bedroom huge with plenty of storage. Lots of kitchen equipment. The cottage is only a short walk to the amenities and the wonderful beaches and coastline. Plenty of information leaflets and books to read. A container of milk was thoughtfully provided for us and placed in the fridge, as was a small bottle of red and white wine placed on the dining-room table - A lovely gesture which was very much appreciated.

Lovely cottage with beautiful views, well equipped, very clean and nicely decorated. Harbourside Cottage at Craster was excellent and the view from the cottage is outstanding. The area had lots to do for all ages. We loved Alnwick gardens and the walk along to Dunstanborough castle. A week is not long enough to fit everything in. Graveside and Wallington are well worth a visit. Looking forward to our next visit.

Harbourside, Seahouses

Latest Review :

Roger J on 10/09/2016

Cottage was adequate for our needs with a balcony overlooking the very busy harbour at Seahouses. The resort of Seahouses appears to be one of the busier of the fishing type villages on this part of the Northumberland coast, we say this even though we visited at a time when the children had mostly gone back to school. If the reader of this is looking for something very quiet Seahouses may not be for them. However, it has got some life and bustle about it. We would definitely recommend a trip to the Farne Islands (even thought the puffins have now left), where there is all sorts of bird life, seals and we were lucky enough to see a large pod of dolphins. Definitely worth visiting Holy Island, Craster and Berwick-upon-Tweed. Walks to the East and West of Seahouses are easy to find and take you along beautiful long sandy beaches. Also, check out when the life boat are doing an exercise launch as its an amazing spectacle and one not to be missed.

Heron's Beck, Druridge Bay

Latest Review :

Joanna M on 23/07/2016

Our week's stay at Heron's Beck was just superb. A beautiful property perfectly located for exploring the area both on foot, thanks to the fantastic network of footpaths, and by car to the myriad of diverse places of interest. Our party ranged in age from 17 to 85 and everyone had one of the best UK holidays we have ever experienced. A walk to the stunning Druridge Bay beach at sunset is just magical. The landing trip to the Farne Islands with seals, puffins, terns, kittiwakes and so many more should be a must as should the peace and tranquility of Lindisfarne when it is cut off from the mainland. Howick gardens, Bamburgh Castle and even dolphins in Caster Bay. We will most definitely be back thanks to the service, quality and location of the great property. Wish we could keep it as our secret! One of the best stays in the UK we have had out of very, very many.

Herring House, Seahouses

Latest Review :

Claire B on 22/08/2015

We had a lovely family stay at Herring House in Seahouses. This cottage provided a great base to explore Seahouses and the surrounding area. We were a family of 5 adults (2 x couples and 1 single) and 1 child. Bedrooms were spacious with suitable storage. Although not essential to a holiday, it was nice having access to free WiFi in the cottage. Another bonus was parking for 2 cars. Can recommend a trip to the Farne Islands. We went with Serenity (book by the harbour in Seahouses) on the 1.5hr Grey Seals Cruise and were lucky enough to see a Minke Whale along with seals, purpoises and loads of birds. The commentary was interesting and the crew were happy to answer questions and have a chat. We didn't eat at the Ship Inn in Seahouses but did spend a few evenings enjoying a pint there. Busy, bustling pub with great local ale on draft. Recommend a day at Alnwick Gardens..maybe break it up with lunch at the Treehouse Restaurant. This was our second visit to both and would go back again. Bamburgh Castle is also worth a visit. Park at the free council car park on the main road on the left at the bottom of the castle (you have to pay for the castle car park) and walk up to the castle itself. Buy your tickets for Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick Gardens from Seahouses Information Centre for discounts! If you visit other places, check with the Information Centre to see if they offer discounts off those too. The rest of the time we spent on Bamburgh beach which is absolutely gorgeous and definitely rates as one of my favourite places to be. Miles of sandy beach, rock pools and paddles in the sea (weren't brave enough to risk full submersion!)!

Very clean, well maintained, all round it exceeded our expectations and we were thrilled with our choice. Very clean all round. Cupboards, windows, curtains and bedding all very clean. We were very impressed with the cleanliness. Our stay at Hilltop Cottage was everything we could have wanted. A lovely greeting from the owner, a fridge with water milk and a complimentary bottle of wine and a box of cakes was so appreciated by us all. We will definitely return and we were sad to have to leave and return home as we were enjoying our holiday in the lovely North East. Beamish and Hadrian's Wall are must see attractions as well as the beautiful beaches and of course the Angel of the North. The standard was so good it felt like home, can't wait to return!

Kittiwake Apartment is right in the centre so very handy for all shops and restaurants and walking to the beach, all the way from Seahouses to Bamburgh. Lindisfarne is well worth a visit, Dunstanburgh Castle ruins are stunning. Alnwick is great for a days browsing when weather is not great. If the weather is sunny get out on the beach, the sight and sound of the waves, salt and sand cannot be beaten. For meals out in Seahouses, Elan Pizzeria was super. It's a comfy cottage that has been lovingly furnished and decorated. It is also a rather quiet and sunny place and Maccine gave us a very warm welcome. We were very satisfied and felt at home in this cottage and your kind services for us are highly appreciated :) The cottage first reminded me a bit of "Wuthering Heights" as it is located on top of a hill where you have lovely sights on many sides. It is lovingly furnished and decorated and equipped with everything you will need. There's a big Tesco in Annfield Plain (just a few miles down the road) and a nice, little village -Lancaster- just down the hill where you will find restaurants, a post office, a cafe, etc. Durham with its famous cathedral and castle are not too far. You can explore famous sites such as Berwick-upon-Tweed, the Holy Island Lindisfarne and the ancient royal seat of Anglo-Saxon Northumbria Bamburgh Castle and of course Alnwick Castle, the seat of the Percy family (dukes of Northumberland). All these attractions are "lined up" at the A1 motorway. A must is for me also Hadrian's Wall and its excellent Roman forts and museums. All this may be reached from this lovely cottage. If you are a lover of historical sites there is a plenty of attractions and if you like walking, you will find an awesome nature.

This was a lovely cottage with ample space for our family and with good facilities. The views from the living room and dining room balcony stretch across the dale to the opposite hills. Unusually, the living space and kitchen is on the top floor and the bedrooms underneath - this means the better views are to be had from the living room and dining room - makes sense really. The cottage is semi detached but we did not see or hear the neighbours all week. It is well equipped for staying a full week, there is ample hot water and the sauna is a nice addition. Most important - it was spotlessly clean. The cottage is built on the side of a hill - there is a steep way to it by road or a shorter path through the garden onto a public footpath - torches will be needed in darker months. It's a five minute walk into Rothbury where there are enough interesting shops and pubs to pass quite a bit of time. The Turk's Head has a good value food - the cheaper 'light bites' on its menu are surprisingly large. The co-op has all the essentials, additionally there are bakers, a butchers with amazing sausages, several cafes, an art and craft shop run by a group of very talented people and much more. There are regular buses to Newcastle and Alnwick which, at £13 for a full day family ticket, make driving to these places unnecessary. We spent most of our time relaxing in the cottage and in Rothbury but we also visited Cragside - an estate and house 2 miles away. I recommend this, as I do Alnmouth for an unspoilt beach.

Stable Cottage, Guyzance Hall, Amble and Warkworth Area

Rod H on 02/09/2016

: The evening sun plastered the rough hewn stone of the hall buildings whilst the shade from the surrounding lime, oak and poplar trees dappled the stonework with mysterious patterns of light that danced to the only sounds to be heard, that of the house martins marshalling the myriad of insects into their beaks to feed their ravenous young waiting in nests clinging under the eaves of the lodgings. Far in the distance a single line of smoke from a coal fire eased its way skyward into the brilliant blue of that summer's eve. Away across the golden fields of corn and wheat the sea sparkled like an azure jewel, merging somewhere afar with the crystal blue of the sky that, tonight, would render a firework show, that only nature can provide, in the form of a meteor shower amongst the inky blackness of these unpolluted skies. Away in the woods, almost too far and too distant to be anything but imagined came the cry of a fox that echoed and added mystery to that place, where so few people were seen that curtains and bathroom locks were not really necessary.

Sundial Cottage, Amble

Latest Review :

Stephen R on 17/09/2016

Well presented, thoughtfully furnished and well equipped, spotless throughout. Everything we needed was to hand, although there were only the two of us. Excellent selection of CDs, DVDs, books and games if the weather had turned really foul, which it didn't. A huge amount of information available on things to do. Moreover, the town visitor centre is not much more than ten paces from the back gate. Sundial Cottage: a well-equipped, comfortable terrace cottage, close to the marina and the centre of town. The Coquet estuary and Warkworth castle are both visible from the back of the cottage. Amble: a quiet but far from sleepy small coastal town about halfway between Newcastle and Berwick. Both Amble and Warkworth have a good selection of pubs and restaurants. Amble is a good base from where to go anywhere on the Northumberland coast either by driving or by the coastal bus route. It's close to Warkworth, Alnmouth and Alnwick. From Alnwick, it's a relatively short drive into the heart of the Cheviot hills and the Scottish border country.

High standard of cleanliness. The facilities were amazing - everything was supplied, such as dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, even laundry basket. Kitchen well stocked with crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils. Have already recommended The Barn to friends who live locally and are planning to book in September this year. It was amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

The Deeps Cottage is spacious, well equipped and beautiful surroundings. Good size, well equipped, lovely peaceful surroundings. Relatively clean but depends on your own standards. Plenty of storage in bedrooms, kitchen, cloakroom brilliant especially with a dog and would be needed if weather wet. Blanchland also beautiful, friendly and excellent provision for visitors. Plenty walks near by including Derwent Reservoir. Stanhope well worth a visit and not too far by car with historical interest and more walks. Plenty places to visit.

First class accommodation, spotlessly clean. All appliances and cutlery provided including towels and linen. Beautiful area that was so quiet and relaxing yet within walking distance of local amenities and attractions. Surrounded by outstanding country side and lovely locals. Highly recommend this property for de-stressing and relaxing but if you want to remain active you can with Tennis in nearby Hexham and Golf and many attractions, especially Kielder, to keep you busy. Private and perfect for two people.

Wagtail Cottage, Rothbury, Northumberland

Latest Review :

Catharine F on 27/05/2016

There was everything we required from the seating, eating area, kitchen was excellently equipped and the bedroom comfortable as was the bed. All was very clean cannot fault anything, all the facilities were excellent as previously stated. Wagtail Cottage is a lovely cottage for 2 people. The complex the cottage is in is well set out and the parking easily accessed. The only downside we found was that it was very rural, not too much of a problem except the road into Thropton was full of potholes, after Thropton the road was a little better into Rothbury. A must see visit is Cragside( National Trust), wonderful setting, beautiful gardens, lakes and woodland. The house itself was very interesting and the history behind Lord Armstrong and his invention of hydro-electricity used in the house, the first of its kind. There is an interesting exhibition of the life and work of Lord Armstrong, just by the tea room. Food tasty as well. From the cottage we visited Alnwick Castle and Garden - well worth a visit, wonderfully designed gardens and water feature. Castle also fascinating along with the history. Lindisfarne is another place to visit and there are too many castles to mention, but if you like castles and the history behind there existence then Northumberland is the place to go!
