Best equipped kitchen in a cottage, that I have rented over the years. Lovely bright cottage, in a lovely village with three eating places just yards away. The area all along the coast is amazing. Alnwick is a nice town and Barter Books is a most visit and Alnwick Castle. Seahouses you can get a boat to the local Islands and see birds and seals.

Exiting the comfort of No2 Appletree, apartment provides for some serious sea views when out walking. Of which particular places to visit is Craster and Upper/Lower Newton on Sea. Beadnell itself is, for want of a better expression; Cosy!! Full of vista, various expressions of sea eroded rock and coast line, a really relaxing retreat complimented by Two worthy eateries and the Salt Cafe. All in easy walking.

Susan G on 29/09/2017

Even though the weather hasn't been great this week, it didn't stop us from thoroughly enjoying our holiday with our two Labradors. We have done our favourite walk to Football Hole more than once and played with the dogs in the sea. One day it was misty on the coast so we did a lovely walk in Thrunton Woods. The colours of Autumn were beautiful and the smell of pine was particularly strong as they were felling trees. After we drove into Rothbury which is very pretty, and had some lunch. You can walk along the river bank here - it is another lovely walk. Good food is always high on our agenda when visiting this area. We have found some great places to eat. We especially love The Ship at Low Newton, The Potted Lobster at Bamburgh and the Bistro at St Aidens Hotel in Seahouses .

Everything looked brand new, TV in particular was brilliant being able to log in to Netflix via the Smart TV. 3 Bamburgh Gate was a fantastic location for our short break in Northumberland. The modern facilities combined with the light and airy interior made the cottage a delight for our 4 night stay. Despite the cold weather the cottage was warm and welcoming throughout. During our stay we visited Holy Island, Alnwick, Dunstanburgh Castle & Craster. Everywhere was dog friendly and we would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone. Many thanks to the Cottages in Northumberland team for delivering a fantastic service.

3 Dukes Cottage, Backworth, Newcastle upon Tyne

Latest Review :

Helen B on 01/09/2017

The cottage is beautiful. It has a tranquil, traditional feel to it and is in a great location, close to the coast and Northumberland yet twenty mins from Newcastle city centre. The cottage itself is very spacious with a lovely garden. We were provided with plenty fresh towels, hand wash, toilet rolls etc. Everything you could possibly need us catered for. E.g. the kitchen was well stocked with equipment, crockery, condiments even all the ingredients to make a cake! This is super helpful as you don't need to bring essentials like kitchen roll, foil, tea bags with you. The owners were on hand should we have needed them. All of this added to a stress free holiday. Thank you.

Beachcombers Retreat, Nr. Amble and Warkworth

Latest Review :

Fiona W on 28/10/2017

Beachcombers Retreat is an ideal location for beach lovers. Walks directly from cottage onto beach were loved by all of us especially our dog. We enjoyed a Sunday Carvery at the Wellwood in Amble - good honest pub grub. Also enjoyed food at dog friendly cafe in Warkworth - Bertrams. Amble pods have some lovely quirky gifts and food outlets, recommend the cheese lady - Kielder cheese was our favourite. Amble is certainly up and coming with the regeneration currently being undertaken. Starting to give Seahouses/Bamburgh a run for their money.

Beech Cottage, Bamburgh

Latest Review :

Sue Y on 04/08/2017

Beech Cottage is a very comfortable cottage which is well equipped and tastefully decorated. Our dog was welcome too with balls and poo bags provided! We loved cooking on the Aga and it warmed the whole house. We visited some fabulous beaches- Ross Sands, in particular, is beautiful and the views towards Holy Island are lovely. At the right time, you can see seals in abundance near the pylons there. Bamburgh Castle and the Grace Darling Museum are also both worth a visit.....and for miniature railway lovers, Ford and Etal villages just over the A1 are good to visit. The Mizen Head in Bamburgh serves a good dinner and our favourite pub by the sea is The Ship Inn at Low Newton. For book lovers, go to Barter Books in Alnwick.....dogs allowed and there is a good cafe there.

We loved Border Cottage. We visited Alnmouth for a family celebration and our four-month-old baby's first holiday. The cottage itself was fantastic, with everything we could possibly need. Alnmouth was a great base with shops, pubs and restaurants within an easy walk and all the amenities of Alnwick a short drive away. The beach at Alnmouth is lovely and we were able to take advantage of the great weather during our stay and spend a lot of time on the sand. Mariette on 01/07/2017

This was our second visit to Lindisfarne and we were so pleased with this little cottage right in the centre of the village. The downstairs living area is extremely cosy with a log burner and comfortable reclining sofas. We needed the log burner as the weather was not the best unfortunately! This did not stop us enjoying our holiday as there are three lovely pubs within a few minutes walk from the cottage and a fairly good selection of DVDs for guests to watch on those rainy days. Bamburgh village and its castle are a short drive away and Alnwick is a bit further down. Barter Books in Alnwick is a must when the weather is not so good. If your a bookworm and like a good breakfast your in heaven! To sum up, this cottage is a home from home with a spacious living area, dining room, kitchen and comfortable beds. We hope to return again soon! Thank you.

We have just returned from a week away at Cobblestone Cottage in North Sunderland very near Seahouses. We have all thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. The cottage was of a very high standard, spotlessly clean with every home comfort needed including a well equipped kitchen. The owners seem to have thought of everything to aim to please and it did. We appreciated the welcome hamper in the kitchen and the toiletries in the master bedroom, must also mention the sweets in the pumpkin pots in the girls bedroom very nice too.The cottage is situated in a quiet, secluded cul-de-sac just near Seahouses within walking distance to the local amenities and the beautiful beach which our little dogs loved. If you like indian food The Spice House is definitely worth a visit. The girls went horse riding with Slate riding school which they enjoyed very much.We are definitely thinking of staying here again at Cobblestone cottage. Fairview, Seahouses

Emma C on 27/10/2017

We stayed at Fairview in Seahouses The house is on a small housing estate. The town is easily walk-able to in 5 minutes where there is a Coop and plenty of shops restaurants and takeaways. The coastal path in right on the doorstep for walks as is the golf course right next to the house. The house itself is well maintained and has a massive orangery on the back, good size dining room and a fantastic aga in the kitchen which keeps the whole house warm 4 hour size bedrooms one en suite and one master bathroom. However there is no bath in either which was the only niggle given we had a toddler but he adapted to the shower. There is a enclosed garden to the rear ideal for dogs and a lovely seating area. The built in garage was a bonus for keeping al the bikes etc in and there was a large fridge in there with a dryer. A washer is also provided in the utility. Overall this house is amazing and I would definitely come back again. Cottages in Northumberland were very fast in sending someone when we had a problem in the house and it was all sorted the same day. While here we spent most of the time at Beadnell beach we found it the best for dogs and the kids with big dunes and plenty of good sand for making castles. We went to Alnwick castle which is a must for any families and Harry potter fans. I took my 2 year old to bunkers indoor play which is £4.50 for 2 hours he loved it while the older kids went crabbing on the harbour. You can also visit the RNLI shop and see the boat in the harour. We also visited the pool up at Berwick which was good and had a slide and wave pool. Another tip is both Asda and Tesco deliver to the house ??

Very clean, tidy and well presented. We had everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable. We had to contact the owner about a small problem which he was more than happy to fix and it was done very quickly. The area is lovely for beaches and walks and there's also crazy golf and soft play for the children. We will return again to the same house in the future.

Lovely character and great location, although it's on a busy road, but very quiet at night. Whickham village is close by and has great restaurants and pubs and a late night supermarket. You will need to hire a car, although there is a bus stop right outside and Dean's taxis are local and very reasonable. Close to many tourist spots; Newcastle, Metro Centre, Beamish Museum, the coast and many Northumbrian Castles and the Roman Wall - the list goes on! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Carl in the Guest House next door is very friendly and helpful.

Ford Cottage, Allensford, Newcastle upon Tyne Area

Latest Review :

Carolyn J on 23/10/2017

Myself, my husband and our two friends stayed here for the weekend. The courtyard is pretty and the decor throughout the cottage itself is lovely. It has a fabulous fire in the sitting room, ideal for those chilly evenings and two well equipped, en suite bedrooms. The only draw back, is there is no freezer at all, I expected there would at least be a small freezer compartment inside the fridge. We did take frozen food with us and found we couldn't keep/make ice for drinks. However, the cottage is situated right next to a beautiful country park and has easy access to shops, Beamish, Northumberland etc. The road running past the cottage can be busy during the day, but I can honestly say the noise did not bother us, you would have to listen for the traffic and certainly didn't disrupt any sleep. The beds were comfy and there was lots of nice little touches here and there, especially the fabulous chocolate cake available on arrival. We would most definitely return to this wonderful cottage!

Grove House is a well equipped large house right in the centre of Bamburgh with views of the castle. It was lovely and warm in freezing weather, and spotless throughout. Everything we needed was there. We didn't expect logs to be available so had brought our own which we used all week! It is warm throughout with additional wood burning stoves in the lounge and dining room. We were a party of 8 and there was plenty of room for all. An excellent week.....

This was our third visit to the house - the location is superb, looking straight out over Craster Harbour; it is very comfortable and well-furnished, but not so smart you feel scared to breathe; the kitchen is well-equipped.; it is big enough to house us as a group of friends. Herring House, Seahouses

Latest Review :

Claire B on 22/08/2015

We had a lovely family stay at Herring House in Seahouses. This cottage provided a great base to explore Seahouses and the surrounding area. We were a family of 5 adults (2 x couples and 1 single) and 1 child. Bedrooms were spacious with suitable storage. Although not essential to a holiday, it was nice having access to free WiFi in the cottage. Another bonus was parking for 2 cars. Can recommend a trip to the Farne Islands. We went with Serenity (book by the harbour in Seahouses) on the 1.5hr Grey Seals Cruise and were lucky enough to see a Minke Whale along with seals, purpoises and loads of birds. The commentary was interesting and the crew were happy to answer questions and have a chat. We didn't eat at the Ship Inn in Seahouses but did spend a few evenings enjoying a pint there. Busy, bustling pub with great local ale on draft. Recommend a day at Alnwick Gardens..maybe break it up with lunch at the Treehouse Restaurant. This was our second visit to both and would go back again. Bamburgh Castle is also worth a visit. Park at the free council car park on the main road on the left at the bottom of the castle (you have to pay for the castle car park) and walk up to the castle itself. Buy your tickets for Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick Gardens from Seahouses Information Centre for discounts! If you visit other places, check with the Information Centre to see if they offer discounts off those too. The rest of the time we spent on Bamburgh beach which is absolutely gorgeous and definitely rates as one of my favourite places to be. Miles of sandy beach, rock pools and paddles in the sea (weren't brave enough to risk full submersion!)!

Another great place which was recommended to us by Rob at St. Aidan's hotel in Seahouses was the Saltwater Cafe in Beadnell, great atmosphere and good food. We really enjoyed our long weekend. It was a family break with our party ranging in age from 23 to 78. The views are delightful. The accommodation was warm and cosy and we appreciated the wood burning stove. We loved the beach walks at Alnmouth and Warkworth. Alnmouth was an ideal location for our weekend break - thank you.

This was our first family break to Northumberland and Simonside View provided the best base for us. Excellent access to the village for bakery, shops and riverwalks. But perfectly placed to make the driving to the coast, lindisfarne, hadrians wall and Kielder easy and not too long for the kids! Simonside has everything you'll need - clean and well maintained, with music, good TV, WiFi and some board games/chess. The kitchen is well equipped and has all the extra bits that you don't think about packing - foil, cling film etc... This is a great base for your holiday and when we come back to northumberland we'll be checking here again!

South View Penthouse, Alnmouth

Latest Review :

Graeme R on 22/10/2017

When you first go into the penthouse apartment you are first hit with a sense of space, thanks to the high ceilings and open plan layout of the kitchen/living area, then you notice the wonderful view from the windows out over the estuary of the River Aln with the sea just a stone's throw away. And then you begin to notice how well appointed the apartment is, from the comfortableness of the beds to the quality of the cutlery - someone has given this place a great deal of careful thought when putting it together and it shows. Everything is such high quality. We easily fitted in 6 people and when family called in to see us the place didn't feel at all crowded with 11 of us in the living room. Everyone who came in said the same thing - Wow, look at the view.! You would literally never tire of seeing the tides rise and fall twice a day in the estuary as the sea rolls in. It looks picture perfect. The apartment is wonderfully located, with the beach literally a minutes walk away and the main street of Alnmouth right around the corner, so no excuses not to take a walk along the lovely sands and then call in at one of the local pubs or restaurants. We loved our stay here, just wish it had been longer.

Stable Cottage, Guyzance Hall, Amble and Warkworth Area

Latest Review :

Rod H on 02/09/2016

: The evening sun plastered the rough hewn stone of the hall buildings whilst the shade from the surrounding lime, oak and poplar trees dappled the stonework with mysterious patterns of light that danced to the only sounds to be heard, that of the house martins marshalling the myriad of insects into their beaks to feed their ravenous young waiting in nests clinging under the eaves of the lodgings. Far in the distance a single line of smoke from a coal fire eased its way skyward into the brilliant blue of that summer's eve. Away across the golden fields of corn and wheat the sea sparkled like an azure jewel, merging somewhere afar with the crystal blue of the sky that, tonight, would render a firework show, that only nature can provide, in the form of a meteor shower amongst the inky blackness of these unpolluted skies. Away in the woods, almost too far and too distant to be anything but imagined came the cry of a fox that echoed and added mystery to that place, where so few people were seen that curtains and bathroom locks were not really necessary.

Excellent location and very spacious, well furnished house with some lovely homely touches such as bottle of wine and homemade lemon drizzle cake on arrival. The cottage was very well laid out and spacious for our family including a small dog. We particularly enjoyed the pool table and the lovely sunny courtyard and seating area just off the kitchen. Rothbury had a lot of places nearby to explore including the river walk that extended to the back gate of Criagside Estate. We enjoyed visiting the historical sites of Craigside House and Gardens, Brinkburn Priory, Warkworth Castle and Hermitage, Alnwick, Bamburgh Village and Castle as well as walks on Bamburgh beach and a hike to Linhope Spout. Also had a wonderful pamper spa day at Doxford Hall Hotel that included afternoon tea.

Set in a particularly attractive corner of Northumberland. The cottage offers rural tranquility with all the comforts of home. Well-equipped and furnished. Lots to see and do in the surrounding area - we particularly enjoyed watching the wildlife: some of the birds, mammals and plants are now largely gone from other areas of England. Lots of enjoyable walking - bracing up on the moors, gentler at lower level. A particularly attractive one is Letah Wood just south of Hexham. History and culture abound - Blanchland goes back more than 850 years, Hexham more than 1300 years, not to mention Hadrian's Wall; the lead mining museum at Killhope Wheel is a fantastic testament to a once prominent industry in the area. Several excellent traditional pubs in the area which offer good value home-made food, and most of which are dog friendly.

Catharine F on 27/05/2016

There was everything we required from the seating, eating area, kitchen was excellently equipped and the bedroom comfortable as was the bed. All was very clean cannot fault anything, all the facilities were excellent as previously stated. Wagtail Cottage is a lovely cottage for 2 people. The complex the cottage is in is well set out and the parking easily accessed. The only downside we found was that it was very rural, not too much of a problem except the road into Thropton was full of potholes, after Thropton the road was a little better into Rothbury. A must see visit is Cragside( National Trust), wonderful setting, beautiful gardens, lakes and woodland. The house itself was very interesting and the history behind Lord Armstrong and his invention of hydro-electricity used in the house, the first of its kind. There is an interesting exhibition of the life and work of Lord Armstrong, just by the tea room. Food tasty as well. From the cottage we visited Alnwick Castle and Garden - well worth a visit, wonderfully designed gardens and water feature. Castle also fascinating along with the history. Lindisfarne is another place to visit and there are too many castles to mention, but if you like castles and the history behind there existence then Northumberland is the place to go!
