Rothbury and the Northumberland National Park is a protected green space which has been awarded as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Within the park, you will find Kielder Reservoir which is absolutely fantastic for cycling or walking and offers amazing scenery. It also has the least light pollution in England making it the number one area for ‘dark skies’. If you love stargazing, Kielder Observatory cannot be missed! Not only can you go for stargazing sessions, but occasionally we are lucky enough to be graced with the northern lights, so if you are fortunate enough to witness the Aurora Borealis during your visit, then you will have memories lasting for a lifetime!

At the southernmost part of the Northumberland National Park you will find Hadrian’s Wall, stretching coast to coast from Newcastle to Carlisle, and was even the inspiration for the great wall in George RR Martin’s books ‘Game of Thrones’.

The picturesque market village of Rothbury has a multitude of independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants and the butcher's shop is well renowned and has even been visited by Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles. Why not try some of their truly tasty offerings during your stay or visit.

The impressive National Trust run Cragside House and gardens can also be found in Rothbury village. This was the first house in England to have hydro-electricity and flushing toilets! You must visit and see for yourself the birthplace of some of the most ground-breaking inventions of the time and take time to walk around the beautiful and relaxing gardens, not forgetting to enjoy a refreshing cuppa and a slice of cake in the tea shop.
