Thornbrae Retreat is a beautifully presented, stone-built holiday cottage in Alnwick for 4 lucky guests. This property offers an excellent standard of self-catering holiday accommodation for families or friends looking to stay in our stunning county and explore all the many local attractions.

Set over two floors, the cottage is spacious and light with many luxurious features including en-suite shower rooms for both bedrooms upstairs, an open plan lounge kitchen and dining area downstairs with bi-folding door leading to your own, smart, decked balcony area, free guest Wi-Fi, flat screen TVs in the bedrooms, complimentary slippers and free off-road parking.

From the lounge, large bi-folding patio doors, lead out onto a patio area which features a private hot tub, ensuring whatever the weather, you can enjoy this lovely outdoor space with your friends and family. The patio also has an outdoor dining area where you can relax with your food and drink.

As a bonus, this cottage has access to additional on-site leisure facilities, housed in a purpose-built, light and spacious development. The facilities include a gympool table, great lounge area with large flat screen TV, changing facilities with shower and WC. Outside there is a patio area with a large dining tableBBQsauna and an additional shared hot tub. This area is perfect for families and friends holidaying together within the Thornbrae Collection of cottages, looking for communal space to relax in and dine together. Guests also have access to shared gardens in the grounds with children's play equipment. 

Staying at Thornbrae Retreat, you are within easy reach of Alnwick Castle, where they filmed the Hogwart's scenes from the Harry Potter films, as well as scenes from Downton Abbey, and of course, one of the world's most contemporary gardens where you are guaranteed to have a wonderful day out; The Alnwick Gardens, while you are there you might visit The Treehouse restaurant featured on Michel Roux Junior's recent series, the famous, Barter Books store with a surprise! and the centre of this popular market town with its many independent shops and great restaurants and bars.

All this and our fabulous, award winning coastline close by, which has just been voted 'Holiday Destination of the Year' by Countryfile Magazine 2017 is just a few minutes drive.  For example, Alnmouth beach, village high street and panoramic golf course is a mere 7 minutes by car and you have boat trips to Coquet Island from nearby Amble and to the Farne islands from Seahouses, not to mention Bamburgh's magnificent Castle, village and glorious beach. Craster's pretty harbour and coastal walk to Dunstanburgh Castle and The Ship Inn at Low Newton... are call within easy reach!! Inland, you can drive to Rothbury, the Simonside Hills and Cragside House and Gardens in just 20 minutes.

Kitchen Area: Fully fitted, modern kitchen with dishwasher, fridge freezer, ceramic hob and electric oven, washer/dryer, microwave, 4-slice toaster, kettle. There is a marble topped breakfast bar with 3 tall stools.

Dining Area: with dining table and seating for 4.

Lounge Area: With 2 large, leather sofas, coffee table and rug, large flat screen TV with Freeview and DVD player, Free guest Wi-Fi. Tri-Folding doors lead onto the decked balcony with quality outdoor dining table and chairs.


Bedroom 1: With super-king size bed (this is a zip and link bed so, the room can be made up as a twin if required. Please confirm if needed at time of booking) bedside drawers and lamps, large wardrobe, hair dryer, wall mounted flat screen TV with Freeview and ensuite

En-Suite Shower Room 1: Fully tiled with modern lighting, a step-in shower, heated towel rail, wash basin with illuminated mirror over and WC.

Bedroom 2: Double bed, bedside drawers and lamp, bookshelves, dressing table with large mirror and hairdryer plus 2 single wardrobes and ensuite.

Ensuite Shower room 2: With large shower cubicle wash basin with storage beneath, illuminated mirror over and WC.


Shared Leisure Facilities: Access to the communal leisure facilities including, a communal Hot Tub with seating for up to 7 people, a changing room with shower and WC, a dry sauna, a small gym with a treadmill, bikes and multi-gym equipment. In addition, there is a sitting room, with sofa and SKY TV with the sports and movies package (underfloor heating throughout), as well as a pool table! Guests also have access to shared gardens in the grounds with children's play equipment. 

Parking: Off road parking for one or two cars. Access to the communal garden in the grounds with children's play equipment.

The appearance of the cottage was as expected from the photos - clean, tidy and in great condition. Could not fault the cleanliness - best we have stayed in. It had everything we needed and more. Loved the complimentary toiletries. We had a great time at Thornbrae Retreat. It was everything we expected and more. The owners were friendly and attentive throughout our stay and the "welcome pack" left for our arrival was very generous. The games room and hot tub were an added bonus and appreciated by our group. Alnwick was a brilliant place to base ourselves for the week and there were several days where we didn't need to use the car as we discovered so much to do around the town. We certainly will plan a return visit.

Thornbrae Retreat is in an excellent location, walking distance to Alnwick. We can highly recommend Alnwick Castle & Gardens. Alnmouth Beach is beautiful & there are lots of independent cafes and pubs to eat at. Seahouses is a traditional seaside town, great for fish and chips. The cottage is well equipped, lovely fixtures and fittings. Great 'club house' with gym, large TV with Sky sports & movies and an outdoor hot tub. Lovely warm welcome from the owners and a great welcome pack, we particularly enjoyed the cheese and biscuits! Thanks for a lovely stay :-) This is the 2nd break we have booked via Cottages in Northumberland and both have been great.

The location was spot on for the local area. The accommodation can only be described as 5 star. The owners were on hand and Julie even took time out to brush the spiders off the climbing frame and swings at the request of our grand daughter. Everything catered and thought of in the accommodation, so Thornbrae Retreat is an exceptional place to stay. Pity about the weather, but we still managed to get out and about.
