The cottage is very well appointed with all the modern facilities that you could need. The location is beautiful, right on the Derwent walk making it perfect for walkers or runners alike. We did encounter a problem with water pressure but the owners worked on it until it was resolved so no complaints there. Plus we had the best Christmas tree at thRead moree cottage. Overall this is a beautiful cottage is an amazing location with easy access to Newcastle & surrounding areas. Would definitely stay here again & recommend to anyone looking for a high end property to stay in. Hide

We stayed at The Piggery in Rowlands Gill for a long weekend. It was in a lovely location, with lots of walks on our doorstep. The owners were also very helpful and kept us up to date when the farmers were ploughing so we knew what was going on and apologised in advanced for any noise (however, there was none). Whilst there, we visited South ShieldRead mores to go to the beach and Alnwick Gardens and Castle. Even though it was a bit pricey, I would thoroughly recommend the gardens as they are stunning. Upon arrival we were greeted by the owner with a big smile. We were also smiling as soon as we walked through the doors to the property. The Piggery is not only very well appointed, very well presented and spotlessly clean but the attention to detail that has been put into the place by the owners is unreal. There was fresh milk in the fridge, tea anRead mored coffee. Washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and even laundry detergent provided along with plenty of good quality towels in both of the beautiful bathrooms. They had literally thought of everything including some games and a pack of cards. As others have already said about views etc. staying there on the hottest weekend of the year to date certainly didn't hurt, it really was amazing! Saw some beautiful birds and a deer. They have also mentioned how approachable and non intrusive they were, what I haven't seen yet is the fact that they also helped to get us discount on entry into Beamish too! I have returned home feeling stress free and well rested after a thoroughly enjoyable stay in a jewel of place. Would definitely stay there again the next time I was going to the north east. Hide

The Piggery is a wonderfully secluded escape. Accessed by a winding farm road and situated on a 100 acre farm, the completely renovated stone building looks out across a ruined 11th C chapel and rolling countryside. The bedrooms are bright and modern, the living room spacious. There's great private walks past the chapel to the Derwent river, and eaRead moresy access to the National Trust's Gibside estate across the road. Newcastle is 20 minutes and a world away. Hide

The Piggery is an excellent cottage, finished to a very high standard, in a beautiful setting and yet still very convenient for Newcastle and surrounding areas. It was a pleasure to stay there and we will definitely be going back!

Really nice spot to spent a few days. It is quiet, which suites us, with a deck looking out on a ruined chapel. We all loved our stay - especially the kids. There is a National Trust next door and Beamish is close
