Beautifully renovated blacksmith’s shop from the 18th century, offering quality holiday accommodation within walking distance of one of Northumberland’s finest sandy beaches.

This beautifully renovated 18th-century blacksmith’s shop, now a wonderful self-catering cottage, offers friends or families a unique experience within walking distance of one of Northumberland’s finest sandy beaches. Stroll glorious coastal paths, enjoy traditional seaside fun and explore the charming towns and villages in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

This lovely cottage is full of character with many lovingly preserved original features. Take the seven stone steps down from the private parking area to reach the garden's lower level, where you can access the property. Kick off muddy boots or sandy shoes in the generous boot room and head through the brick arch into the spacious kitchen/diner. This is a room full of rustic charm with exposed wooden beams overhead, pretty country cottage tiling and a chunky farmhouse-style dining table with plenty of space to share a meal with loved ones. Alternatively, dine alfresco on the outdoor furniture in the walled patio surrounded by almost a quarter of an acre of lawned garden with views over the neighbouring fields. For a cosy evening in, there’s no place better than the delightful living room with its ample sofa seating and warming wood burner housed in an impressive inglenook fireplace. Climb the spiral staircase to a mezzanine seating area with books, games and a large Velux window from which you can gaze up at the stars. The three bedrooms are found up one step from the hallway and are bright, inviting spaces to rest weary legs in plush, comfortable beds.

Enjoy the best of both coast and country by staying in this quiet village, 1.5 miles from Sugar Sands beach, one of this stunning coastline’s best-kept secrets. You will also find a convenient grocery store and a friendly pub/restaurant nearby. Boulmer Beach (2 miles) offers more glorious beach strolls and even the occasional dolphin sighting. Alnmouth’s pretty village (3.5 miles) has lovely shops, cafes, pubs/restaurants, a children’s play area, a picturesque golf course, and another gorgeous beach. Visit Alnwick Castle and Gardens (4.5 miles) for a day out to remember amongst 12 acres of beautifully landscaped greenery, or head to Craster (5 miles) for some fresh seafood and a walk on the coastal path to Dunstanburgh Castle.

Fantastic accommodation, thoroughly recommended. A great location, close to many fabulous beaches and just 10 minutes to Alnwick by car. Beautiful cottage on the edge of Longhoughton. Once the Old Forge, hence its name, it has been extended to a beautiful single floor building of stone and rafters, with a beautiful garden and sitting/dining/barbecuing area, 2 double bedrooms and a single, one en suite, and even a telescope gallery!
