A clever byre conversion located in the grounds of a Grade II-listed Manor House surrounded by open countryside and views. Perfect for exploring, walking, cycling or simply relaxing together.

Dating back to the 18th century, this imaginatively converted byre makes a fabulous couple’s retreat. Set within the grounds of a Grade II-listed manor house in the picturesque Northumberland village of Birtley, this is a romantic getaway for two. A fresh, warm and inviting open-plan bolthole, the property is a couple of miles north of Chipchase Castle, and within easy reach of Hexham and the remains of Hadrian’s Wall. Tastefully furnished and delightfully decorated throughout, this idyllic property makes a great base for walking, hiking, cycling and running, with quaint villages along the way, and plenty of wildlife and scenery to glimpse.

Stepping into this beautifully converted farm building with its high ceiling, exposed beams and feature stone wall, you will find yourself in the spacious and relaxing open-plan living area. Bi-fold doors allow plenty of light into the cosy lounge which makes a great space to snuggle up in when the evening comes and enjoy a movie on the Smart TV. The central kitchen island provides a charming spot for sharing your favourite meals, and the stylish and thoughtfully designed kitchen has a useful range of equipment. The rear of the property features the pretty double bedroom as well as an invigorating shower room. Open the bi-fold doors, where the gravelled area outside provides a pleasant spot for unwinding on the outdoor furniture, dining alfresco or stargazing at night. You are also welcome to explore Cat Wood, nine acres of private woodland just a short stroll away.

With the historic market town of Hexham to the south (12.5 miles) and the pretty village of Bellingham to the north (7.5 miles), this beautiful property is ideal for exploring a stunning part of the Northumberland countryside. Local attractions include Housesteads Roman Fort, Corbridge Roman Town and the Temple of Mithras (all within 15 miles).

It was a novel experience living in a small space, not so cosy, until we could get the place warmed up. The peace, quiet and lovely countryside surrounding the area was a pleasure. Owner welcoming, friendly and helpful.

A great place to stay to explore this beautiful area. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The Byre maybe small, but it is a well equipped space to escape to peace and quiet. Many thanks for a great week.

Very peaceful, pretty village location. Good off road parking. All basic necessities provided. Property kept clean. A cosy, relaxing, comfortable retreat. Hens very talkative and friendly. We absolutely agree with the owners' recommendation of the Battlesteads Hotel and Restaurant in Wark for as an evening meal venue or for a drink in the gardens.
