This delightful stone cottage is found in the Cheviot foothills of Northumberland National Park, a location known for its stunning scenery. Close to the Scottish border, the cottage offers magnificent uninterrupted views across farmland and Northumberland National Park - perfect for a relaxing holiday.

You'll be situated just outside of the village of Millfield where a pub and farm shop can be found, while the lovely market town of Wooler, complete with wonderful eateries using local produce, is just a short drive away. The Cheviot Hills offer outstanding walking, cycling, and horse-riding, while golf and gliding are also readily available activities. Landmarks such as Holy Island and Barmburgh Castle are a 45-minute drive away, while Alnwick Castle, used in the Harry Potter movies, and its spectacular gardens is also close by. Should you wish to hop over the border, Scottish capital Edinburgh is about an hour's drive.

Entering through the front door, you'll find yourself in the entrance hall, where you can kick those muddy boots off and hang up your coats after a day's exploring. Head off to the left and you'll step into a cosy lounge where you can relax in front of the wood burner, enjoy a meal at the dining table or sit and savour the rolling landscapes outside. The kitchen, with electric oven and hob, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer and microwave, is just off the lounge. Back through the hallway, you'll find two beautifully furnished bedrooms - one with a double bed and one with twin beds – with views out into the garden and the adjacent paddocks, and a bathroom with a shower over the bath and a WC.

Outside you'll find a lovely enclosed and lawned garden with flower borders, a table and chairs to enjoy al fresco dining and a charcoal BBQ. Don't be surprised to see a cheeky pony or horse wondering over to say hello from the paddocks opposite.

There is parking for three cars available on a gravelled area to the side of the cottage, a wood and coal store, and storage for bicycles. Dogs fees are charged per dog at £20.00 for up to 7 nights, £40.00 for up to 14 nights and an additional £20.00 for every week or part week thereafter.

  • 2 bedrooms – 1 king size and 1 twin
  • 1 bathroom with overhead shower, basin and WC
  • Electric oven and hob, microwave and fridge/freezer.  Washing machine and a further freezer is located in the outhouse
  • Visit the lambing sheds in early spring by arrangement with the owner
  • Wood burner (starter pack of logs are provided free of charge, extra logs available on request at an additional cost)
  • Off-road parking for 3 cars to the side of the cottage
  • Wi-Fi included (the reception can be poor at times)
  • Whilst there is mobile reception at Mindrum, due to rural location signal strength may vary. There is a landline available in the property
  • Restaurants and shops in neighbouring villages
  • Bicycle storage available
  • TV with Freeview in lounge
  • Golf courses located in Wooler and Kelso and there is also a Race course located 10 miles away by car in Kelso
  • Due to insurance purposes, guests must never charge their car using a standard outdoor plug or an extension cable linking to a domestic plug. This is not permitted because of fire regulations regarding wiring, earthing rods and voltage restrictions; it poses a serious fire risk to standard 13 amp sockets and there is a real danger that the body of the vehicle could become live
  • This property will be decorated for Christmas
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00, unless otherwise stated in your arrival details
  • 2 dogs allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week

Our second time at Gamekeepers cottage and totally loved is again. Our German Shepard dog loved the free roam of the yard and garden, both of which are well fenced in, and the walk to the top of the hill on the farm. What a lovely little cottage, full of charm and really comfortable. The cottage is in a great location, amazingly peaceful and with great views over the countryside. The Gamekeepers Cottage was very homely and comfortable. Our spaniel was at home right away. There was books to read and puzzles to do for rainy days and a lovely garden to sit in on hot sunny days. Plus a cozy fire to keep you warm for those chilly evenings. Everthing that you would need is provided for you.
