Enjoying an elevated location with views across the rolling countryside, tastefully finished and just perfect for couples looking to get away and enjoy Northumberland, whatever the time of year.

Positioned in the scenic countryside near to Hadrians Wall, and the village of Bardon Mill, adjoining the owners’ property, although privacy is assured, and was previously lived in by Catherine Cookson, while she wrote the Mallen series. Visit Vindolanda, a Roman settlement which is the most extensive site to be seen along Hadrian’s Wall. Other attractions in the area include Housesteads Fort which is within a short distance from the property and offers plenty of scenic walks or Hareshaw Linn waterfall in Northumberland National Park. On a clear night, with the dark skies you can see thousands of stars, recognise constellations such as Orion and maybe even see the International Space Station as it orbits the earth.

Access this property through the door which is designed to look like a garage door, and step into the hallway. Once through the porch, you will find yourself in the welcoming open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. The lounge area has comfy sofa, wood burner and TV/DVD. The dining area has seating for two, whilst the bright kitchen area offers everything that guests will need to prepare their favourite meals, including an electric oven and hob, fridge with ice compartment and microwave. There is also a shower room with WC on the ground floor. The staircase leads up to the first floor, to the spacious super-king-size zip-and-link bedroom (which can be made up as a twin on request) and en-suite WC.

Outside the property is a south facing sheltered private decking area and small garden, where you can sit at your leisure and enjoy a sunrise with your morning coffee. There is parking available to the front of the property for one car.

The Hill Top Hideaway is a delightfully quite and well-situated cottage to explore Hadrian's wall and the Hexham area of Northumberland. Maurice and Anne have thought about their visitors and provide a lovely welcome basket of breakfast essentials for your arrival.

The property sits in a peaceful location with stunning uninterrupted views. Internally it was warm, comfortable and well equipped. The owners were welcoming, friendly and very helpful. From the property we were easily able to access The Lakes as well as The North East Coast and Scotland. What a lovely place so quiet and peaceful nice welcoming basket [milk,tea,coffee &home made bread] well equipped kitchen and the bed was the best large & comfy not to hard or soft. A great place to be based for walks or drive to so many attractions. the owners were very welcoming and helpful, will definitely be going back again.

Low ceilings could be a problem for taller people and water temperature was dangerously hot - the owner did warn us about this. Lovely peaceful location,relaxing and close to lots of Roman sites and walks,owners were helpful but not intrusive.

The only issues is that there is no dining table so you have to eat at the breakfast bar, and the ceiling upstairs is low so anyone over 5'10" tall is likely to bump their head

Excellent few days away at a perfect retreat. Quiet and relaxing, in a lovely cottage which was clean, comfortable and very well equipped. The welcome pack including homemade bread was a very nice touch. We would recommend this property to all.
