For film buffs, you may recognise Alnwick’s castle (10 miles) for its starring role in the much-loved Harry Potter films. For wildlife-spotting opportunities, take a boat trip from Seahouses (7.5 miles) to the Farne Islands (home to many seals and puffins) or stay local and wander around the village’s Newton Pool Nature Reserve.

Perfect location just a few minutes walk from a great beach and a short drive to all of our favourite spots. The cottage was clean, comfortable and spacious and really good for kids too. We were visited every day by two peacocks on the patio with plenty of chickens and turkeys wandering about too. We would love to stay again!

Excellent location and accommodation, with all you need for a self catering holiday. We stayed in 'Forget Me Not' cottage, ideal if you have children as the patio over looks the play park. Short walk to the beach. Nice costal walks, watch out for the tides. Lovely place to stay.

A super clean house, such a relief in the current times, light and spacious, very well equipped and mostly very comfortable. The location is excellent if you like beaches and coastal walks, we barely got in our car all week. We loved watching the guinea fowl, so entertaining. Great to have a deck to sit on and enjoy the afternoon sun and sunsets. TRead morehe playground looked fab for kids. Quiet when we were there as out of school holidays. The mattresses could have been better, otherwise excellent. Hide

A lovely cottage. Bright clean comfortable well equipped with a great view over the fields and sand dunes. We were kept entertained each morning by the various animals in the fields. Guinea fowl and peacocks came to visit. The beautiful beach is only a short walk away. We didn't make it to the pub but The Joiners arms seemed very popular. If you’re looking for a seaside holiday with a difference, visit Northumberland – a region brimming with beautiful golden, sandy beaches, rolling hills, craggy moorland, bustling market towns and fishing villages, and more castles than in any other county in England.

Situated in the North East of England, this designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty boasts no less than 39 miles of unspoilt coastline to explore and a calendar packed with exhilarating water sports options. To indulge in a spot of surfing, kayaking or powerboating, take a trip to one of the many breath-taking Northumberland beaches - where dogs love a good walk and fresh local seafood is never far away.

Home to the awe-inspiring Cheviot Hills and the historical Hadrian’s Wall, the Northumberland National Park is renowned for its open spaces, award-winning Dark Skies and stunning rural backdrops - and is the least populated national park in Britain. Offering access to challenging hikes, horse-riding, rock-climbing and a multitude of other action-packed activities, the park is one of the region’s greatest draws.

There is a huge range of spectacular wildlife and sea life waiting to be sighted, whether you take a boat ride to the Farne Islands to admire the colony of Atlantic grey seals and puffins, or explore the Kielder Water and Forest Park, home to magnificent ospreys. If it’s history you’re looking for, the imposing Bamburgh Castle and the world-famous Alnwick Castle are undoubtedly worth a visit.

Alternatively, if you’re seeking the bright lights of a city adventure, Newcastle upon Tyne is the place to go. Here, you can experience world-class culture, outstanding attractions, superb shopping, impressive live shows, top entertainers and delicious cuisine in abundance.
