Better yet, you and your family or friends will love that this is one of few Amble cottages located right by the town’s beautiful beach, as well as being at the edge of a family-run farm - with cows and calves, sheep and lambs and mini pigs you might want to say hello to! In addition, you can arrange to go alpaca trekking in the fields around the farm.

Nearby, The Drift Cafe serves fantastic food and drinks and welcomes dogs - and there’s also a wonderful local pub serving food, as well as a farm shop with a delicatessen and a separate coffee shop. You’ll also be a stone’s throw from nearby Amble, the popular market town known as the friendliest port where there is an abundance of excellent restaurants, a renowned ice-cream parlour, 15 retail pods at the harbour village, boat trips to Coquet Island to see some amazing wildlife and much more. As far as coastal cottages in Northumberland go, this property is as good as it gets.

Warkworth is another popular village close by, home to a medieval castle, a great range of shops, lovely riverside walks and boat trips - plus access to the beach.

Lovely warm and cosy cottage, great location

I would thoroughly recommend Poppy Cottage for a relaxing stay on the Northumberland coast. It lived up to my expectations. Its a lovely stone cottage, situated on the coast road, in a quiet location, overlooking a field with cows grazing, beyond which are the dunes and the beach. The sea was audible at the front, as were the Brent geese at the reaRead morer of the cottage. Its furnished in a modern, comfy style and the kitchen is well equipped (good sized fridge & freezer a bonus). Do hope to return. Hide

Poppy Cottage, like the rest of Northumberland, is a hidden gem. The cottage is very well equipped and for those wanting a break from the rat race, waking up to the mooing of cows in the next field and a beautiful sunrise at the front of the property, from over the dunes, is quite something. Nice welcoming touches too from the owners who live next Read moredoor - with a cake, milk and eggs (and tea/coffee etc) all ready and waiting for our arrival. If you’re looking for a seaside holiday with a difference, visit Northumberland – a region brimming with beautiful golden, sandy beaches, rolling hills, craggy moorland, bustling market towns and fishing villages, and more castles than in any other county in England.

Situated in the North East of England, this designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty boasts no less than 39 miles of unspoilt coastline to explore and a calendar packed with exhilarating water sports options. To indulge in a spot of surfing, kayaking or powerboating, take a trip to one of the many breath-taking Northumberland beaches - where dogs love a good walk and fresh local seafood is never far away.

Home to the awe-inspiring Cheviot Hills and the historical Hadrian’s Wall, the Northumberland National Park is renowned for its open spaces, award-winning Dark Skies and stunning rural backdrops - and is the least populated national park in Britain. Offering access to challenging hikes, horse-riding, rock-climbing and a multitude of other action-packed activities, the park is one of the region’s greatest draws.

There is a huge range of spectacular wildlife and sea life waiting to be sighted, whether you take a boat ride to the Farne Islands to admire the colony of Atlantic grey seals and puffins, or explore the Kielder Water and Forest Park, home to magnificent ospreys. If it’s history you’re looking for, the imposing Bamburgh Castle and the world-famous Alnwick Castle are undoubtedly worth a visit.

Alternatively, if you’re seeking the bright lights of a city adventure, Newcastle upon Tyne is the place to go. Here, you can experience world-class culture, outstanding attractions, superb shopping, impressive live shows, top entertainers and delicious cuisine in abundance.
