Set within a beautiful and bustling hotel and wedding venue, Derwent Cottage Two is one of four attractive stone houses in a beautifully restored terraced row. The hotel complex itself covers 20 acres and is at the heart of the Northumberland countryside, where you will find plenty of things to do.

There is much on offer within the area, from fishing at the nearby Derwent Reservoir to playing golf at championship standard courses, or simply discovering the unspoiled, surrounding countryside. The cottage is a stone’s throw from the historic cathedral city of Durham and only 15 miles from the bustling metropolis of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. It is the perfect base for a rural getaway and for enjoying great days out in Northumberland and County Durham.

Whether it’s a bit of Hogwarts magic at Alnwick Castle you are looking for, a trip down memory lane at Beamish, the North of England Open Air Museum, or a just a day out shopping at the Metro Centre, you can unwind on your return using the onsite amenities. Leisure facilities at the hotel are shared by residents and include an indoor swimming pool, a jacuzzi and a relaxing sauna. There is a fantastically well-equipped gym available and the shared grounds are perfect for al fresco dining.

The cottage is accessed via a tree-lined driveway where a stone frontage hides a neat and contemporary interior with neutral tones and mostly wooden floors. There is a king-size bedroom and a zip-and-link twin (that can be made into a king-size upon request). The large shower room contains a walk-in shower and a sleek and modern sink and WC. The open-plan lounge/diner has a TV and DVD, and the kitchen is well-equipped with an electric oven/hob, a fridge with an ice box, a dishwasher and a handy microwave if you decide to eat in.

Other amenities include ample parking. Bed-linen, towels, electricity, central heating and Wi-Fi are all-inclusive and access to Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel and grounds.

There is a lively bar and restaurant on site and the local pubs, cafes and restaurants are only three miles away. If you need anything extra, such as a high chair, reception is on hand to help. Arrival is 4pm.

Spacious property in good location with necessary items available.. Kitchen a little small but manageable. Staff on site were friendly and helpful. Front door keycard/ door handle was tricky to open on several occasions, though staff were fortunately around to help. Enjoyed the swimming pool. A lovely cottage with everything you need for a break. Wi-Fi is pretty patchy, but that didnt bother us. Really handy having the choice of self catering or the hotel restaurants. The swimming pool was nice and warm and clean. The cottage itself was spotless in the hard surfaces areas, but could have done with a good hoover and dust in the bedrooms.Read more All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Hide

Spacious and comfortable cottage, facilities at the hotel are very good, staff very welcoming and friendly. Really enjoyed our stay as there is lots to explore and do in the local area. Let down a bit by the cleanliness of the cottage and no where to sit outside unless you want to sit at the bar. Noise levels from the hotel also disappointing.

We had very mixed feelings about our week in Derwent Cottage, we absolutely loved the area and it was a great spot to explore Durham and beautiful Northumberland. We enjoyed our stay. Our cottage was great although could do with updating. The hotel site was super, we had a lovely meal in the restaurant and cocktails in the bar. We enjoyed the on site pool and gym and the location is good especially for visiting Durham and the north pennines. I expected the hotel to be noisier having read some previous reviewRead mores, however we found it a peaceful and relaxing place to stay. Hide

Spacious and comfortable cottage. However, slightly limited storage space in kitchen area. Very abundant and comfortable seating provision. Wide-screen TVs in every room but could have done with a DVD player. Good shower. Very warm in cottage (good). Great to have gym/pool facilities pretty much on the doorstep.
