Courtyard Cottage is a beautifully furnished holiday cottage, set in the grounds of Riding Hills Farm, on the outskirts of Riding Mill near Hexham. Perfectly formed, this compact annex- style cottage has been well designed and offers a separate kitchen, open plan living/bedroom with a small, en-suite shower room and is an idyllic retreat for couples. The cottage is on one level, with just three broad steps up to the entrance, so is suitable for guests with restricted mobility. The kitchen houses a beautiful Everhot range cooker with 2 large ovens, cast iron hot and simmer plates with an integral grill. The living area is tastefully decorated and has two comfortable armchairs and a 42-inch smart TV. The bedroom area has a double bed and leads into a small, en-suite shower room, with wash basin and toilet. There is a designated parking space a short distance to the rear, together with a delightful picnic area overlooking the uninterrupted countryside surrounding Riding Hills Farm.

Riding Mill stands on the south bank of the Tyne, sixteen miles west of Newcastle and five miles east of Hexham. The village has a welcoming pub, the Wellington, which has a warm and cosy atmosphere, traditional British food with great service.

Also within the village is Riding Mill station, dating back to 1835, where the original building still stands and is fully operational, connecting you along the Newcastle to Carlisle line. For a unique experience, why not book the Passage to India Train which departs from Newcastle and passes through Riding Mill, to connect you to the award-winning Valley Restaurant at Corbridge.

Just four miles away is the beautiful historic village of Corbridge, with a range of interesting Roman sites to visit and St Andrews Church in the centre with its Saxon window, Roman arch and Norman door. The village has innovative and interesting shops, pubs and coffee shops and its bridge dating back to the 17th Century, the only bridge to survive the great flood of 1771, such was the height of the water that during the night persons stood on the bridge and washed their hands in the river (WJ Palmer 1882).

There are some great local places to eat and drink nearby, including the Wellington (1 mile), the Duke of Wellington (5 miles), the Angel of Corbridge (4 miles), the Manor House (7 miles) which are all great pub/restaurants and of course, Wheelbirk’s award winning yummy Ice Cream parlour is only 10 minutes away by car - a must visit!!

Bed linen, towels, heating and hot water are all included.

  • Bedroom – 1 double bed (standard size)

The cottage was lovely and warm and very clean. The bed was comfortable but had to borrow a couple of pillows from a friend as they were rather flat. Also found that periods of sitting in the two IKEA chairs had to alternate with using the bed as a sofa. The shower room very small and controlling the temperature to warm/hot extremely difficult. Loved this compact & cosy cottage. Ideal for me on a solo trip with beautiful surrounding countryside. Corbridge, Hexham and Hadrian's Wall sites are only a short distance away.

Pictures are deceiving was not expecting a bed sit . Although very clean and well equipped was only good for one person . Did not like the parking situation having to park away from the cottage and walk up the drive as my husband has disability issues .

Although the cottage was extremely clean ,we found it too small for two people. There are no views from the two cottage windows as these are very small and to open the two skylights was dangerous for us being seniors. The shower room was also too small .The outside area was situated away from the cottage and had stunning views but was completely runRead more down and neglected and covered in chicken poo .The ground was also uneven .This was also our allocated parking area which was unsuitable for us . The cottage is surrounded by other cottages / the farmhouse so don't expect to be 'far from the madding crowd'. You will hear people talking / getting into their vehicles / driving off, etc. However there are some nice views from the grass area near the parking space, and local hens and ducks visit. Ideally situated for Hadrains Wall and travelling to some of the many castles. The cottage has everything you'd need for your stay. The bed was comfortable but a standard double size and as other reviews have stated the bathroom is very small. Very pleasant owner. We enjoyed our stay.

Lovely bijou cottage - very well equipped and sooo warm! Suited our needs perfectly for visiting friends in the area. Space is used to the maximum so if you are of wide girth I would not recommend it as you would find the bathroom a squeeze. We loved it and would use it again.

The cottage is quaint, warm and nicely cared for/decorated with everything to hand. However, it is small with no bathroom as such, just a shower cubicle. As such we felt it was somewhat over-priced.
