We spent a lovely week in Cloister Cottage. Well appointed and in a great location for visiting Northumberland. We enjoyed the quiet location but also felt part of a little community with the other cottages being close by. Lived up to the description online and we felt the directions were very accurate.

Sadly the weather was bad, however the location is very convenient for visiting the area and the local pub served great food. Only problem is that the village has no shop, so planning and morning papers becomes a challenge.

Home to the awe-inspiring Cheviot Hills and the historical Hadrian’s Wall, the Northumberland National Park is renowned for its open spaces, award-winning Dark Skies and stunning rural backdrops - and is the least populated national park in Britain. Offering access to challenging hikes, horse-riding, rock-climbing and a multitude of other action-packed activities, the park is one of the region’s greatest draws.

There is a huge range of spectacular wildlife and sea life waiting to be sighted, whether you take a boat ride to the Farne Islands to admire the colony of Atlantic grey seals and puffins, or explore the Kielder Water and Forest Park, home to magnificent ospreys. If it’s history you’re looking for, the imposing Bamburgh Castle and the world-famous Alnwick Castle are undoubtedly worth a visit.
