Get the whole gang together for a fun getaway at this spacious stone-built retreat sitting on a working farm in the picturesque hamlet of Rookhope - deep in the North Pennines National Landscape. Sleeping eight people across four bedrooms, it's ideal for multigenerational families or groups of friends who are searching for a characterful cottage with far-reaching hill views to call home while they explore County Durham together. Wake up and set off on the Rookhope and Lead Mines Circular Trail, a moderate 5-mile loop, which takes in Rookhope Burn along the way, and in the afternoon, head into the picture-postcard village of Blanchland (7 miles) and treat yourself to some fine pub grub at one of the oldest pubs in the country. In the evening, come home to sink into your cottage’s wood fired hot tub.

Pull into your private parking spot (there’s room for four cars) and step inside this bright and spacious cottage. The lounge is a calming space to return to after a day of Pennine adventures, with plenty of soft seating and a Smart TV. Let your group’s head chef get busy in the kitchen/diner and share a sociable meal around the large dining table. Alternatively, head outside to fire up the gas BBQ and dine alfresco on the patio – the country views are spectacular. Afterwards, make a beeline for the indoor games’ room in the garden for a game or pool or darts by the wood burner, or treat yourself to a dip in the wood fired Finnish hot tub or a steam in the barrel-style sauna. The ground floor has a fully accessible super-king-size bedroom (which can be converted into twins on request) with an en-suite wet room and direct patio access. Head upstairs and you’ll find a super-king-size with an en-suite with a bath and shower, and two super-king-size rooms (can be arranged as twins on request) with en-suite shower rooms.

Set off on riverside walks from the market town of Stanhope (4 miles), where you can hop aboard the Weardale Railway for a scenic run to Bishop Auckland (19 miles). While you’re there, check out Auckland Palace Deer House and Park, a Gothic Revival eyecatcher built back in 1760 in the park of the Bishops of Durham.

Wow!!! What a stunning home and absolutely spotlessly clean. The owners that live next door to the property and so welcoming and accommodating. What a lovely start to our holiday being welcomed with fresh made bread and jam, and welcome hamper. The attention to detail is amazing! You could not ask for more from a holiday home. We spent so much timeRead more in the games room and outdoor area. From the pool table and darts board, to the beer fridge and Bluetooth speaker and telly. This property has everything you could possibly want to bring family and friends together and make some amazing memories. The hot tub and sauna are perfect for relaxing. The kitchen is to die for and have everything you could possibly need and more. Every bedroom is spacious and has en-suite facilities and own TV. The views are breathtaking! I would highly recommend we had a fabulous time. Hide
