Cosy up beside the crackling wood burner at this cottage in County Durham. Sleeping four guests, the two-bedroom holiday home at Medomsley Edge, 2 miles from Consett, offers generous space and scenic views. Explore the magnificent North Pennines National Landscape, 4.5 miles away, then return to sun yourselves in the south-facing courtyard garden.

Make your way back to the welcoming stone retreat after each exciting excursion and take three steps up to enter. Spend relaxing downtime with your family and friends in the airy, open-plan lounge/diner. Lay a fire in the wood burner during the colder months to create a glorious glow. Settle on the soft leather sofas and flick through the channels on the Smart TV. Choose a book from the shelves and read it at the table over a cup of tea. The modern kitchen/diner encompasses everything you need to help you prepare light snacks and hearty meals with your own ingredients. Pull a stool out from the breakfast bar or return to the table in the main room to enjoy these. There is also a family shower room on the ground floor. As night falls, climb the stylish wood and glass staircase to the first floor. Wake up in either the double bedroom or the twin to glorious views out over the Derwent Valley. Refresh yourselves in the contemporary shower room. Step out into the enclosed patio on fine days. Share a bottle of wine at the picnic table in the evening sunshine. Parking for this cottage is on the street, subject to availability.

Make a picnic and head 5.5 miles to the National Trust’s Georgian-landscaped Gibside Park and Garden. Spend an afternoon at Derwent Waterside Park, with its many trails and children’s play park. Take a long walk on the Durham Heritage Coast, 23.5 miles away.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay here over the bank holiday weekend, the house is lovely and had everything you needed for a getaway, including a lovely welcome basket. We went with our two girls and dog and whilst it was cosy, it was absolutely perfect for us. Patio garden is an absolute sun trap and I would certainly recommend the local pub foRead morer food and a good natter, which was roughly a 10 minute walk from the house. All in all lovely stay and would recommend! Hide
