Take a nostalgic journey back in time when you stay in this former railway station. Sleeping six guests, the comfortable, three-bedroom stone abode was once a bustling hive of activity. Situated 1.5 miles from Embleton and 8 miles from Alnwick, it now makes a magnificent base for exploring the picturesque Northumberland Heritage Coast, with its miles of golden sand and rocky outcrops.

Let yourselves in via the porch, where you can hang your jackets and slide out of your beach sandals. Wander through to the light-filled lounge to sink into the soft seating and select a board game to set up or book to flick through. Find a film on the Smart TV instead for everyone to enjoy. There is also a lovely conservatory, where you can relax with a cup of tea and imagine all the busy travellers who waited here when this was a platform. When it is time to prepare the next meal, self-catering is easy in the contemporary kitchen/diner, with its neutral colour scheme and large table. There is also a TV in here for you to watch as you chop and stir. There’s also a family shower room and a utility room. The family bathroom is on the first floor, together with your bedrooms, two king-sized, each with a TV, and a twin, with an en-suite shower room. This cottage has off-road parking for two cars.

Venture into Alnwick to potter in the shops, dine out and see the impressive castle. Spend time on the sandy beach at Embleton Bay, 2.5 miles away, where you can also pick up the Northumberland Coast Path. Head to Seahouses, 7.5 miles away, and walk 3 miles down the beach to dramatic Bamburgh Castle. Take in the far-reaching views towards Lindisfarne Holy Island.

We had a wonderful holiday at Christon Station House! The accommodation was clean, comfortable, spacious and well appointed. We loved all the train signs etc. Our favourite spot was in the 'sunroom'! The trains were a real novelty, even until our last day! We explored both north and south, a really good central location. There were so many highliRead moreghts - Lindisfarne, the beautiful beaches, walking to Dunstanburgh Castle, Northumberlandia land form, Alnwick Gardens as well as lots of bird watching, and a spot of shopping in Morpeth (and Hexham on our way home). I would highly recommned staying here, thank you! Hide

The cottage is outstanding. I have been doing self catering now for almost 50 years and this was in the top 5 regarding comfort, cleanliness, equipment provided and value. It is in an ideal situation for exploring all the attractions that Northumberland has to offer. Do not let the fact that it is on the East Coast Main Line put you off. Trains doRead more fly past often but the property is well glazed and you hardly notice and after the first day get used to them. There are fewer at night and I was never woken up by one. Hide

The house was very well appointed. It's rare to book somewhere for a larger party and actually have everything you need: dishes, cutlery, glasses etc. The big fridge freezer and large range cooker was brilliant. Self catering & somewhere a bit more remote you need these. Adequate comfortable seating in living room. Three full bathrooms: brilliant. Read moreComfortable beds. Loved seeing the trains go by & the noise wasn't intrusive. Good location for exploring the area. Hide

Lovely house in immaculate condition and very well equipped. Comfy beds and effective heating. Lovely railway themed touches & tracking the trains going past can become addictive.

If you don't mind being adjacent to a busy main railway line this accommodation is fantastic. We didn't worry about the passing trains and with the double glazed windows closed it wasn't a problem. As for the accommodation itself it was wonderful. The owner has thought of everything you need for a fantastic stay. Cannot think of one negative. :

A well presented house, central to some fantastic attractions. A few too many trains for our liking and no garden for children.
