Fans of ancient history will love a stay at this cottage close to Hadrian's Wall and Vindolanda Roman fort. Sleeping six guests, the three-bedroom, stone hideaway is less than 150 metres from the site, which is believed to have been under Roman occupation from 85AD to 370AD. It is 6 miles from both Haydon Bridge and Haltwhistle and perfectly located for exploring the North Pennines and Northumberland National Park.

Open the door and head into the welcoming kitchen/diner, with its exposed timberwork. Discover an immaculate modern kitchen, with a central island, large table and ample space for cooking, dining and socialising. Linger in here in front of the Smart TV, over a bottle of wine, once dinner has finished or stroll through to the lounge, to sink into the soft seating and enjoy the Smart TV and music system. Play games together and stoke up the wood burner on chilly autumn and winter evenings. One of your bedrooms is also downstairs. This double benefits from a door into the Jack and Jill shower room, which can also be accessed from the lounge. Head upstairs, pausing on the landing to take in the view or choose a book from the cosy reading area. Find the king-size bedroom, with an en-suite bathroom, and the twin, which has an en-suite shower room. Outside, bask in the morning sunshine over a cup of tea at the bistro table. Savour the sound of the birds in the trees and the nearby stream. There is private, off-road parking for three cars.

Venture 2 miles to Hadrian's Wall and head out along it to see the famous Sycamore Gap Tree Memorial. Housesteads Roman Fort, 2.5 miles away, is also worth visiting. This stands on the spectacular Whin Sill escarpment and is Britain's most complete Roman fort.

The cottage is at the bottom of a very small bendy road. When we arrived we were met with many walkers headed for the roman site before we got to the farm . Also it was hard to know we had arrived because of lack of sign posting. Also there is a huge snail trail all over the rug by the fire place.

The cottage was wonderfully peaceful with a relaxing ambience in our week long visit. Our party included two 85-year olds and a 15-year old dog, none of which had any accessibility issues with good flat parking, no steps into the property and plenty of room throughout to manoeuvre. The kitchen was well appointed and supplied with more than utensilsRead more than you would necessarily expect of a rented property, the Rangemaster was a joy to cook with and the design catered for the 6 adults in our party comfortably. The welcome pack from the Vindolanda Estate was a nice touch and very welcome as were the wonderful art work throughout. All the rooms and beds were comfortable had plenty of space / storage and having all of them en-suite was a pleasant luxury. The living room was cosy with 2 setees and a chair in front of a log burner (not used as it was June) and the central pouffe was a great addition that we used a lot. The internet worked well all week, for our needs, which for the remoteness of the location was a bonus although phone signal was minimal. The free access to Vindolanda and the Roman Army museum were excellent and all of our party enjoyed the tours and support of the friendly and welcoming staff at both venues. Again acessibility was not an issue on the sites for our older party members one of which walked with a stick / support frame and I was impressed by the range of visual / interactive elements of the museums - all of us loved it and plan on re-visiting both the cottage and the Vindolanda sites - Thank you Hide

A lovely house in an idyllic position, and it was a privilege as well as a pleasure to stay right next to the Vindolanda fort and see at close hand the preservation and archaeological survey work which continues apace. Walks in stunning scenery are close at hand and we hardly needed the car at all during the week. Excellent, cosy cottage with good equipment. We found the surrounding area demonstrably anti-dog and would not return for that reason only.

A perfect peaceful cottage with views of the fort and a babbling brook out front. Cottage was cosy and was plenty big enough for the five of us to spread out. A great place to explore all things Roman around Hadrian's Wall.

The location is perfect for exploring Hadrians Wall and the gem that is Vindolanda, within the added bonus of free entry which we made great use of. The house is in a peaceful green area steeped in Roman history. Its by far the best cottage we have stayed in.
