Set in the heart of historic Bamburgh, this detached stone cottage makes a brilliant base for up to six guests keen to explore the Northumberland coast and countryside. The Grade II-listed building was once the village blacksmith’s forge and carpenter’s workshop and has a lovely historic look and feel. Nearby, cosy pubs, tempting eateries, Bamburgh Castle, and the sweeping sands of Bamburgh Beach are all within 0.5 miles, so you can soak up the village atmosphere from the moment you arrive.
Inside, the cottage has an open-plan living space set beneath exposed beams and a vaulted ceiling, combining a farmhouse-style kitchen, dining area and a snug lounge. Here, a wood burner sits in a striking inglenook fireplace alongside a Smart TV and comfy seating – a lovely spot for relaxing in the evenings. The kitchen has everything you need to rustle up feasts, with a wooden dining table for sociable meals and a handy utility cupboard just off the hallway. The three bedrooms include a king-size room with an en-suite shower room and two cosy twins served by a family bathroom with a roll-top bath, shower attachment and WC. Outside, there are not one but two enclosed gardens to enjoy: a patio garden with an outdoor table and chairs for al fresco dining, and a sunny, south-facing lawned garden with two benches and space for games. The property has private parking for two medium-sized cars.
When you’re ready to head out, walk the coast towards Seahouses (3.5 miles) and keep going along the coastal path to Beadnell Bay (7.5 miles), where a beautiful beach is backed by eateries, pubs and shops. A half-hour drive takes you to Alnwick (17.5 miles), home to the impressive Alnwick Castle and Gardens, while the atmospheric Holy Island of Lindisfarne (16 miles) is waiting to be explored across its tidal causeway – you may spot seals and puffins there if it’s the right time of year.
