This wooden-clad hideaway is perched high above the sweet village of Thropton, with a lovely hillside setting overlooking the Simonside Hills and Coquet Valley. The three-bedroom home has been lovingly renovated by its longstanding owners, with beautiful Scandinavian-inspired interiors creating a laid-back feel for every stay. It’s just right for a getaway with family or friends keen for a rural Northumberland trip with easy access to the national park, which begins just 5 miles west.
Inside, the open-plan lounge, dining area and kitchen are filled with natural light and scenic views thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows. After long days out in the fresh air, sink into the sofas beside the wood burner, pick out a book from the shelves or stream a film on the Smart TV. The kitchen is fully equipped for relaxed holiday cooking, with a large dining table for sit-down meals. The bright king-size bedroom takes full advantage of those front-facing views, and benefits from a handy office space that leads to an en-suite shower room. Two further bedrooms – a double and a twin – share a family bathroom with a shower over the bath. There’s plenty of space outside, too, with a large front garden, a pretty patio perfect for al fresco meals, and a peaceful conservation woodland and meadow behind the property. There’s private parking for up to three cars, plus one additional parking space just beyond the driveway.
The vibrant market town of Rothbury (2 miles) is your best bet for pubs, shops and tea rooms. Cragside (4 miles), the National Trust estate famed as the world’s first hydro-electric powered home, is fab for a leisurely look around before coffee and cake in the tearoom. Further afield, head up the Coquet Valley to roam the wild Cheviot Hills (27 miles), or enjoy a scenic drive to Northumberland’s marvellous beaches (19 miles).
