This stylish and welcoming lodge is surrounded by the serene Felmoor Country Park, for a restful break with up to four guests and two dogs. Sandwiched between Morpeth (8.5 miles) and Alnwick (11.5 miles), this peaceful retreat gives you a countryside experience without ever being far from civilisation. The park itself has a clubhouse and restaurant on-site, so you can enjoy an easy bite to eat when you don’t fancy cooking.
With its elegant wooden exterior, this holiday home has an alpine-chalet feel. Step inside to find an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner where your group can gather. Comfortable furnishings and Viking themed artwork create the perfect setting for unwinding. The large patio doors fill the space with natural light and open out onto the decking. When it’s time to rest, head to one of two inviting bedrooms – a double and a twin – both of which have charming views to wake up to. The contemporary family bathroom completes the indoor space. Outside, the decked terrace is a true highlight, with a sunken hot tub just waiting to soothe achy muscles. There’s also private parking for one car and a handy outdoor tap for washing off muddy boots and sandy toes (or paws!)
When you’re ready to explore beyond the lodge, head to Druridge Bay (8 miles) where you can enjoy 3 miles of golden sand and wild dunes. Morpeth is lovely for souvenir shopping and riverside strolls. Or, if you’ve got sea legs, take a boat trip from Amble (11 miles) to spot puffins and seals on your way to Coquet Island, an RSPB seabird sanctuary home to thousands of seabirds. History (and film) buffs will love exploring Alnwick Castle (14 miles), one of the largest inhabited castles in the UK – and also an official filming location for Harry Potter.
