Located on the outskirts of Embleton village on the Northumberland coast, sits this charming one-bedroom property. Situated in the grounds of a 5-acre estate, it’s ideal as a romantic getaway or base for a solo traveller. Enjoy tranquil walks through the private woodland and orchard or stroll through the medieval village of Embleton. Alternatively, for a walk on the beach head 1.2 miles to Embleton Bay. An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the sandy beach is overlooked by the dramatic ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle and backed by dunes teeming with wildlife. If you fancy practising your swing, there’s also an 18-hole golf course.

Inside offers a sense of tranquillity with elegant furnishings and Rennie Mackintosh-inspired decor adorning all the rooms. On the open-plan ground floor, a comfortable sofa and chair make the spacious lounge a cheerful and inviting spot while huge French doors offer up countryside and distant coastal views. Relax with a film on the TV or simply sit and contemplate the views. For extra comfort, there’s a wood burner to keep things warm on chillier days. From the lounge, step through to the neat kitchen where you’ll find all the modern appliances you’ll need to create delicious meals then serve at the intimate dining table with seating for two people. There’s even a window seat in the kitchen so you can sit and chat while someone else does the cooking. A convenient family bathroom is also located on this floor. From the living area, stairs lead up to the first floor where the master bedroom is located. Featuring a king-size bed, the room is light and airy with beautiful sash windows that overlook the treetops. The en-suite bathroom has a fabulous freestanding bath that is ideal for soaking in after a day exploring the coastline.

Outside, a large decked terrace is a peaceful spot for morning coffee while watching the sunrise. During the day, enjoy a good book in the sun or pick some homegrown vegetables from the estate’s garden then dine alfresco on the terrace table.

Loved the accommodation. Provided with all you could want and extras like the bread, wine and eggs. Did find the chair in the living room a challenge to get out of. But very comfy. Bed was fantastic. Thanks for a wonderful stay. Anne and husband were lovely.

One of the best cottages we have stayed in. Well equipped, clean and roomy for 2 people. A delightful wellcome pack waiting for us when we arrived. The cottage is in a very good position to explore the coastline particularly: can walk to the beach in 15 minutes. Would go there again.

Comfortable, cottage in a quiet location, just outside Embleton. Good village farm shop. About a mile or so to Embleton Bay, either through the village to Dunstanburgh Golf Club or down to Dunstan Steads; Craster village a bit further.. Friendly and helpful owners.

What a special place Shirewater is. A very warm welcome from Anne and Peter. Walking into the smell of freshly baking bread in the kitchen was the perfect start. The food hamper was beautiful. Dont miss out on Tildas eggs from the hens next door. The lodge has everything you could wish for. It was immaculately clean ( and I am very fussy!). The supRead moreer king bed was incredibly comfortable and sitting in bed with a morning cuppa looking at the distant sea view was lovely. The roll top bath in the en-suite was perfect after miles of walking on the nearby beaches and coast paths. Shirewater is a little slice of heaven. The orchard was not only bursting with the juiciest plums but masses of butterflies! The heron was fishing on the lake and the grounds are simply beautiful. Expertly landscaped to make the most of the natural environment. What an absolutely wonderful time we had. We shall be back without doubt. Hide

This is a beautiful place. We had a great week exploring the area. The owners were so friendly and welcoming. The goodies hamper and loaf of freshly baked bread in the bread machine were delightful. Absolutely nothing negative to say!

The property is ideally located to enjoy Northumberland. You can walk down to Embleton beach and enjoy a walk along the coastal path. Easy to drive to other locations as well. A mix of castles, beaches and walks. The property itself has a lovely layout with an open kitchen area, dining table, comfortable chairs and a TV (make smart by an AmazonRead more Firestick) and DVD player. Games, books and advice on what to do in the area (it's all there). Really enjoyable stay and the owners are really friendly and helpful. Hide

A quiet location with a delightful garden which we were at liberty to explore. The lodge is spacious, very clean, light and bright and beautifully decorated. Our hosts were welcoming, helpful and lovely to talk to. We appreciated the generous hamper of good quality food which we found on arrival.

The Lodge at Shirewater was delightful. Though the booking staff at Original Cottages were very pleasant, they appeared somewhat disorganised. I asked for twin beds when booking - this request was ignored. I subsequently telephoned to repeat the request, and was assured this had been done. My client account still showed a king double. I changed toRead more twin on the account . I was not surprised on arrival at Shirewater to discover the bed made up as a double. This does not inspire confidence. Hide

Quiet location outside Embleton, but easy access to the coast. The village of Craster is just done the road and possible to do some walks from the property itself. Reasonable access to Alnwick and villages on the coast like Beadnell and Bamburgh. Comfortable and well equipped property, friendly owners. Nice large garden to be explored.

I felt at home and relaxed the moment I stepped into the Lodge. I knew wed made an excellent choice. The bed and the sofa/snuggle chair were lovely and comfortable and the Lodge was wonderfully spacious for two people. We loved being in the countryside but also near the sea. I dont think wed appreciated just how lovely the gardens and grounds wouRead moreld be and how they would be a significant part of our relaxation on holiday. Every day, when we got back to the lodge, we took our chairs and a drink down to the burn and enjoyed the late afternoon and evening sunshine. It was the perfect holiday home for us and we would have loved ti stay a bit longer. Hide
