Immerse yourselves in the very best of rural and coastal Northumberland when you stay at this cottage near Belford. Positioned on the fringes of a working farm, the characterful, two-bedroom hideaway sleeps four guests and is also a great choice for anyone wishing to bring a canine companion. Offering single-storey accommodation, it has a garden with a gorgeous rural outlook and a wood burner for cosy evenings. It is 7.5 miles from the beach at Bamburgh.

Take five steps up to let yourselves into the porch, where you can leave your wellies, walking boots and beach shoes. Head into the galley-style kitchen, with its attractive stone wall, to make cups of tea and unpack any shopping. Prepare meals in here too for your friends and family and sit down in the light-filled conservatory/diner, which has wonderful views out over the fields. Open the doors in the conservatory on warm days to bring in the fresh Northumberland air. Relax together in the adjoining lounge, with the wood burner crackling and your favourite programme on the TV. Choose a book from the shelf, play a game or simply chat instead. When you are ready to turn in for the night, stroll through to the king-size bedroom, which has an en-suite shower room, or the twin. There is also a family bathroom. Spill out into the garden to play games with the children or dogs on the lawn. Dine out here in the sunshine too, taking in the scenic views.

Walk 1.5 miles into Belford to potter in the shops, dine out in a friendly pub or visit the museum. Head into Bamburgh to walk along the beach, swim or paddle and see the historic castle. From Seahouses, 10.5 miles away, you can take boat trips out to the Farne Islands.

We really enjoyed being off the beaten track so to speak but still in range of all surrounding places to visit. The property was warm and well equiped and the conservantry was a boon. Views across the country side are stunning.

Lovely cottage in a quiet location that gives easy access to the local area and has both Newcastle and Scotland within reasonable driving distance. The only reason I haven't put the location as "very good" as the road leading to it is a farm track that isn't very well maintained, so watch out for potholes. Otherwise would absolutely recommend it anRead mored it will be our first option for any further holidays in that part of the country. Hide

The property itself is very well situated for exploring Northumberland and the Scottish borders. The setup worked well for us (family of 4 including two young children as well as a small dog) with two good sized bedrooms, a living room and conservatory. The kitchen was reasonably well equipped although the dishwasher was broken during our stay (ownRead moreer was in the process of getting it fixed). Unfortunately the holiday cottage was let down by the poor quality cleaning which the owner is now aware about. We spent a good portion of the first day cleaning, particularly the bathrooms and dusting everywhere. If the cleaning situation is rectified we would recommend. Hide

The property had not been cleaned properly toilet seat in ensuite was on floor, everywhere was thick of dust. No hoovering had been done, cushions left where people had been lying on them,Only thing that had been done was beds changed.Wasps on window ledges in conservatory, there must have been a wasps nest as we could not open the windows or doorRead mores flys and wasps lying on kitchen and bedroom windowsills. The garden was a mess as the grass had not been cut for weeks,I know it had rained but it was disgusting, workman did not turn up when they said they would.Owner of property is fully aware as I sent her photos which I understand she sent to original cottages. As mentioned and reported to you in October there was smell in the en-suite, some of the fixtures and fittings needed attention, the grass hadn't been cut for a few weeks ( although done few days before we left ) The main complaint was the fact we booked a fortnight buy had no change of bed linen for second week --- surely in cost of booking!

Was a fantastic stay only a few minor things like whoever cleaned after the last guests didn't check as we found dirty trays and a plate in the oven and the bath had what looked like left over bubble bath/shampoo in the bottom of the bath like it had been spilled. And the dishwasher wasn't checked as the dirty bread knife was still in there. Shame Read morebut it's the simple things that van spoil things. Hide

This is our 4th visit to Burn Bank Cottage, as we really like both the cottage and its setting. A slight niggle this time was a lack of wooden spoons and oven gloves(!)making cooking a bit difficult we left a note for the cleaners to pass onto the owners.
