A charming and inviting country cottage close to the market town of Haltwhistle provides an idyllic and tranquil setting for a couple to enjoy a relaxing break where their dog is also welcome. This location is excellent for walkers, who can enjoy plenty of trails through scenic hills and valleys. At one end of the open-plan living room, you will find everything you need to rustle up tasty treats in the compact kitchen. Enjoy a romantic meal for two at the dining table. From this room, a staircase leads to the first-floor double bedroom, while a contemporary shower room with WC completes the first floor. Sit out on the shared, paved patio area with picnic tables, fire up the BBQ and dine alfresco on fine days.

Delve into the local history with a visit to Housesteads Roman Fort (8 miles) or Vindolanda Roman Fort and Museum (4.5 miles), rich in living archaeology. If you enjoy water sports, spend the day at Talkin Tarn Country Park (11.5 miles) to enjoy kayaking, paddleboarding, or a walk around the woodlands. The accommodation was adequate. However, there was a vicious dog living on the site which attacked our dog resulting in him needing medical attention when we got home.

Susan and Dave were very kind and helpful which was a blessing for us during the heavy snowstorm. We couldn't have asked for better hosts. However, we were disappointed with the facilities (lack of enough toilet rolls, bin liners, proper kitchen set) and the general setting of the property. It should have been a lot better for the price paid.

A very comfortable stay in a well equipped cottage, incredibly well placed for visiting Hadrian's Wall sites, and the whole of western Northumberland.

My dog and I spent a wonderful few days at Smithy Cottage, Ald Craig Cottages. My dog especially enjoyed the field where she could run free. The cottage was very clean and comfortable, and is well placed for tourist destinations and walking.
