This lovely two-storey stone property, located on a farm steading and perched above the glistening Embleton Bay, is ideal for couples looking for a restful and active coastal retreat. Enjoy the magnificent views of the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty from inside the cottage and from the patio area. Saunter down to the spectacular sandy beach below, 500 metres away, and stroll along the shoreline, exploring the rocky outcrops and taking in the views of Dunstanburgh Castle in the distance. Venture to the unspoiled fishing village of Craster (3.5 miles): taste the local delicacy of oak-smoked kippers, walk around the tranquil cove, and visit the local art galleries.

This pretty cottage is brimming with traditional charm and contemporary comforts and boasts large windows that flood the property with natural light. There are soothing coastal tones throughout. Downstairs opens onto a compact kitchen with all the appliances you need to prepare a romantic meal to share in the cosy dining space. The en-suite double bedroom with French doors opening onto the patio is on the ground floor. Upstairs, you’ll find the light and airy lounge where you can relax on the plush seating and watch TV. Throw open the balcony doors and breathe in the salty ocean breeze, or in the cooler months, pop a log on the open fire and bask in the warmth and relaxing glow. Outside, spend warm afternoons sipping a drink on the patio, admiring beautiful coastal views, and unwinding on the outdoor furniture.

This section of the coast has endless sweeps of beautiful beaches to discover, and the sandy stretch at Warkworth (13.5 miles) is must-see. Discover the area’s history at Bamburgh (11.5 miles) with its magnificent castle, then enjoy a bite to eat at one of the local eateries. Mermaid Cottage is a very cosy, comfortable cottage and location is very good on a quiet lane. Views of the sea are a bonus and only about a 6 minute walk onto the beach. We would definitely stay again and recommend to others. A perfect spot.

Despite the above issues we did enjoy our holiday as weather was fantastic and the situation of the cottage is ideal if you like to ditch the car and walk from home.

Mermaid Cottage is in a perfect location for walking and visiting Northumberland, in a peaceful setting the views and light from the cottage were amazing. The cottage was comfortable and well equipped for two people for our 1 week stay. We enjoyed the milk / tea and biscuits on arrival. As we stayed late September a little more coal for the fire iRead moren the evenings would have been appreciated. Hide

Fabulous beach location. The cottage is very popular, thus the interior is tired and in need of some updating.

Excellent little cottage to stay in for the week. Location is great with the beach 500 yards down the road, perfect for walking the coastal path in both directions. Convenient for visiting Bamburgh, Alnwick, Cragside, Holy Island and more.

A lovely cottage just a short walk from the beach. Just what we wanted! Sea views (with dolphins!) from the living room and bedroom. Well-equipped for such a small place. Private off-road parking. Perfect!
