This charming property, situated in a peaceful rural location 10.5 miles from the vibrant town of Wooler, is the ideal retreat for families or groups of friends looking for a base tucked away among breathtaking views. Sleeping four over two comfortable bedrooms, it won’t be long before you’re all feeling ready to take on some of the walks in the area. Take a leisurely walk up to an Iron Age hillfort on the 3-mile Kirknewton Hillfort Trail (5 miles) before coming home to enjoy an al fresco BBQ dinner looking out across the hills.

You’re welcomed by the property’s bright and airy interiors as soon as you step inside. The lounge has a fresh feel with plenty of seating to snuggle up in; get cosy by the open fire in the winter as you read a book or watch TV. A charming farmhouse-style kitchen diner with lovely green tones is a pleasure to cook up a storm in and eat at the large table in the middle. You’ll find a bathroom with a shower over the bath and a handy separate WC on the ground floor, while the double and twin bedrooms are upstairs. Both have vaulted ceilings, wood panelling decorated in green and white tones and plenty of natural light. Outside, the stone-walled garden is ideal for children and dogs to run around on the lawn. There are also two outbuildings; one with freezer and bike storage, the other with a handy washer/dryer and dog kennel area.

Head off on the Heatherslaw Light Railway (12.5 miles) and stop at Etal for a drink in the tearooms, or visit Chillingham Wild Cattle Park (17 miles) if the kids prefer animals. If you’re feeling adventurous, take hikes up to The Cheviot (17.5 miles), an extinct volcano that is Northumberland’s highest point.

Fabulous stay in a lovely snug cottage. Large walled garden was great for the greyhounds and there was plenty of space. The electricity board was doing some work in the valley so all the properties were being run off generators and although there was a noise outside you couldnt hear it inside the house. It was still the most peaceful place in the wRead moreorld. The view of the hills from the large kitchen window was outstanding and it was great to just sit and watch the hills, the wildlife and the weather. Would definitely come again Hide

Outstanding property, thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Breath-taking views. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay in a very remote location, very well equipped.

Wow- what an absolutely amazing place. I cant rate this highly enough and no amount of photos will ever do it justice. Very secluded. Idilic location and view over the snow capped hills. Lots of wildlife seen from the cottage. The beds are unbelievably comfortable! Kitchen really well stocked with pots/ pans etc for both cooking and baking. Lots ofRead more outside space for the dogs to run around securely in and out house where they could dry off and get cleaned before coming back in the house. Lots of logs and coal. (Sorry we used a lot as we just relaxed and made the most of the cottage). So glad I found this cottage. Its a must. Hide

Weve stayed in College Valley nine times now - a delightful remote location. Superb cottages, all beautifully presented and extremely comfortable.

It was a beautiful little cottage with all we needed there. My only problem was the stairs, I know that it does say on your website may be a problem for someone with difficulty walking but when it only becomes a problem two weeks before your going its difficult a hand rail on the stairs is needed. I would also suggest double quilts on the single beRead moreds. Hide

We adore Coldburn Cottage and it's our third stay, we'd be disappointed if we ever found it less than brilliant! The bathroom has been updated since we last stayed which was nice, but to be honest it's the utter peace, amazing views and brilliant walks from the door that we come for. It's idyllic.

Another great week at Coldburn. Excellent food and service at the Milan Italian Restaurant, Wooler and the Border Hotel, Kirk Yetholm. Watched 3 red squirrels at Whitehall and saw an Adder on the Southernknowe/Hethpool Mill walk.

Had a lovely time recharging our batteries and being off the grid. Such a charming & relaxing cottage - perfect for 'Us' time. Enjoyed the experience of chopping wood and collecting coal for the fire. Took us 4 days but we completed the 1000 piece puzzle! What you can achieve without wi-fi!

A truly beautiful stay in the snow dusted valley! Frosted walks to all side of the valley with crisp blue skies making for spectacular views, followed by relaxing coal fire evening. PERFECT!! Thank you
