This charming property, situated in a peaceful rural location 10.5 miles from the vibrant town of Wooler, is the ideal retreat for families or groups of friends looking for a base tucked away among breathtaking views. Sleeping four over two comfortable bedrooms, it won’t be long before you’re all feeling ready to take on some of the walks in the area. Take a leisurely walk up to an Iron Age hillfort on the 3-mile Kirknewton Hillfort Trail (5 miles) before coming home to enjoy an al fresco BBQ dinner looking out across the hills.
You’re welcomed by the property’s bright and airy interiors as soon as you step inside. The lounge has a fresh feel with plenty of seating to snuggle up in; get cosy by the open fire in the winter as you read a book or watch TV. A charming farmhouse-style kitchen diner with lovely green tones is a pleasure to cook up a storm in and eat at the large table in the middle. You’ll find a bathroom with a shower over the bath and a handy separate WC on the ground floor, while the double and twin bedrooms are upstairs. Both have vaulted ceilings, wood panelling decorated in green and white tones and plenty of natural light. Outside, the stone-walled garden is ideal for children and dogs to run around on the lawn. There are also two outbuildings; one with freezer and bike storage, the other with a handy washer/dryer and dog kennel area.
Head off on the Heatherslaw Light Railway (12.5 miles) and stop at Etal for a drink in the tearooms, or visit Chillingham Wild Cattle Park (17 miles) if the kids prefer animals. If you’re feeling adventurous, take hikes up to The Cheviot (17.5 miles), an extinct volcano that is Northumberland’s highest point.
