Your Handy Guide to New Car Parking in Northumberland

Posted 7 Apr 14, written by Amanda Lambert

From the 1st April, parking in Northumberland County Coucil owned car parks changed. It is now free to park in county council run car parks and on-street parking places in Alnwick, Bamburgh, Beadnell, Berwick, Hexham, Morpeth, Rothbury and Wooler.

Motorists will need to display a time disc when parking in short stay places that were previously pay and display. For a FAQ Guide please click here. You may want to print and take it with you as it a useful guide.

If the cottage you are staying in does not have a parking disc for you to use, you can obtain one from all Customer Information Centres, Tourist Information Centres, libraries as well as local shops and businesses in the main towns.

Here is a quick guide by area as to where changes have been made:

Alnwick

All on and off street parking spaces managed by Northumberland County Council will become free of charge. All time limits in on-street short-stay parking places (Bondgate Within Bondgate Cobbles, Clayport Street, Fenkle Street Cobbles, Market Street, Pottergate) will remain in place and will be enforced using time discs.

All time limits in short-stay off-street car parks (certain areas of Greenwell Road) will remain in place and will be enforced using time discs.

The town’s car parks (Greenwell Road, Roxburgh Place, Dispensary Street, Pottergate New Row) have all-day parking so time limits do not apply.

Amble
No changes- none of the car parks are managed by Northumberland County Council. A parking and traffic review for the town is currently ongoing.
