Ten Must See Events This Summer in Northumberland

There is lots to see and do in Northumberland during the Summer Holidays and this year is no exception. There is lots to keep all the family entertained with something for all tastes whether your passion be music, castles, steam trains or country fairs. Here is just a selection of some of the best that Northumberland has to offer this Summer.

Northumberland Steam Fair - Druridge Bay

2 August - 3 August
This year is the 25th Anniversary of the Steam & Vintage Fair with a 'Silver Jubilee Spectacular' which promises to be the biggest & best event of its kind yet with 100s of special exhibits including classic cars, motorbikes, commercials, vintage tractors and stationary engines.

There will also be a large selection of craft stalls and trade stands. Saturday evening will feature a musical entertainment with a special concert by Cumbria's most famous band "RUE & THE ROCKETS".


Vikings Attack at Lindisfarne Priory

2 - 3 August

Encounter the terrifying Vikings as they spread a wave of terror and turmoil with their raids on the North eastern coast of England, where Lindisfarne was first to be set upon in 793 AD. Take a stroll around around their encampment to discover the rigours and entertainments of Viking campaigning. See displays of combat and witness deadly battle with our Viking visitors!

Alnwick International Music Festival

2 August - 9 August

Enjoy 8 days of International folk music and dance in this popular annual event held in the historic market town of Alnwick. Children's activies are available to.

Simonside Country Fair

Sunday 10th August

Join us in a day of action-packed fun for all the family at our new Forestburngate showground. The main Fair will run from midday. New this year, the Northern Inuit Breedshow and there will be wonderful music, scrumptious food and drink, exciting displays in the show-ring, local traders and this year more opportunities for everyone to join in with activities such as Have-A-Go Archery and Clayshooting.
 

Medieval Courtly Combat at Warkworth Castle

11 August - 13 August 

Enjoy a step back in time as knights perform a medieval tournament. Try your hand at the noble art of archery (small extra charge applies).

Ice cream in the Garden

 

12 - 13 August

Bring yourself, your friends, your family to the Alnwick Garden Ice Cream Event. Two yummy days of games, activities and live entertainment as well as ICE CREAM.
To make the most of the lovely summer days, The Alnwick Garden will be celebrating one of the nation's favourite hot weather treats: ice cream. Lots of tasty ice creams from local suppliers will be at the event.

 Alnwick Castle Medieval Fun

14 and 15th August

Zooted, the jesting duo, take you back to days when comedy was uncomplicated. Where chivalry was the order of the day and the knights fought each other to keep it that way! With a highly entertaining blend of comedy, fire-eating and sword-juggling, Zooted never fail to entertain and amaze!
Check times of performances when you arrive at the Castle. Also on these days you can learn how to ride your broomstick Harry Potter style. Long bow demonstrations will also be going on throughout the day. 
 

National Trust's Cragside House and Estate

 LUX Exhibition, Science Quest and Wild Art

There is so much to see and do this Summer at Cragside, making it great for a family day out. The LUX exhibition reflecting upon the creative and inventive spirit of its owner William Armstrong, rooms at Cragside will shine, lampshades will crackle and the beautiful gardens will hold a golden surprise within them.

Science Quest - offers children a trail for inquisitive families. Discover the wonder of science on this one mile trail until 1st Septemer.

Create some wild Art - No.18 of the National Trust's 50 things to do before you are 11 3/4. Pick up some twigs, feathers and leaves and make a wild art picture - until 28th August.
 

 

Meet the Gruffalo at Wallington Hall

24th -25th August

Come to Wallington and take a walk through the deep dark wood and meet the Gruffalo. Help celebrate 15 years of the Gruffalo at Wallington, there will be a host of Gruffalo themed activities in the deep, dark wood. Follow our Gruffalo trail, watch the films, listen to the stories and of course meet the Gruffalo himself! Normal admission prices and a small additional charge may apply for some activities.
 

Romeo and Juliet at Bamburgh Castle

25th August

Join the Lord Chamberlain's Men this summer for the worlds greatest love story. With action from the outset, jealousy, comedy, murder, banishment and the most famous balcony in the history of theatre!
