Glamping with a difference - a unique holiday experience

We have an exiting new addition to our range of places to stay in and around the Northumberland area! Situated in the grounds of Hagg Hill Farm which is located in the heart of the Derwent Valley, Shepherd's Hut which is custom made situated in an idyllilc setting, where there is lots of surrounding wildlife including a pair of the magnificent Red Kites that nest at the farm and can often be seen soaring overhead. Deer are also frequent visitors through the grounds and can be spotted at all times of day.

If you have ever fancied camping but opted instead for the home from home comforts of a Northumberland cottage holiday, well you can now have the best of both worlds when staying in Shepherd's Hut, you can be assured of a comfortable night’s sleep in a luxurious double bed.

There are also bunk beds, ideal for families which can be converted into a sofa should there just be two people staying. Chilly nights need not be a concern as there is a log burning stove in the hut ensuring you can stay warm and cosy on cooler nights.

Hagg Hill Farm was formerly a riding centre and still maintains its stable, arena and paddock facilities. Should guests own a horse and wish to bring them on holiday whilst staying at Shepherd's Hut to explore this magnificent area, they are welcome to do so for a small additional fee. If you are looking for additional accommodation, you can bring along an extra tent for a small additional fee per day.

Cooking facilities are available both inside the hut with a cooking stove and there is a large BBQ for guests to use outside together with a picnic table. There is also a small balcony area with a table and two chairs for you to sit and relax whilst enjoying morning breakfast or a glass of wine in the evening with your favourite book. There is ample room for children to play in around the hut and they can also enjoy the large tree swing.

If you fancy a treat during your stay, Hagg Hill Tearooms which are open Friday to Sunday offer a delicious selection of cakes, light lunches and refreshments. Perfect after a morning’s cycle ride or stroll along the banks of the River Derwent. Or indeed a spot of fishing, as the River Derwent is very popular for salmon and trout fishing (permits can be obtained locally).

The owner Rena Holford, is a very talented glass artist and has her own studio on the farm. She makes a selection of unique and quirky gifts that you may well be tempted to take home with you as a little souvenir. Some of her work is also displayed on the farm as well as in some of Northumberland’s top attractions including Bamburgh Castle.

I’m sure you’ll agree, a stay at Shepherd's Hut is certainly a holiday with a difference and makes a great alternative to a traditional camping holiday as a couple looking for a romantic breakaway or for a family holiday with a difference, four legged friend included too!
